Bio
City Mice are a Brooklyn-based twee-punk girl-band. The band is fronted by sisters Ana and Laura Becker, and aims to bring post-punk brillo and power-pop sugar together in peaceful-ish coexistence. City Mice formed in 2014, when guitarist/vocalist Ana Becker and longtime friend and badass bass player Rachel Noone started experimenting with a few of the demos languishing on Ana's hard drive. With just guitar and bass, the songs were sparse, aggressive and scrappy. Soon after, Ana convinced her sister Laura Becker to come down and sing. Laura's sweet sister-style harmonies gave City Mice the pop deliciousness we were all craving. Drummer Geoff Martin rounded out the group, and holds down the fort with his solid and expressive playing style.
City Mice's songs are fitful and lively, ranging from angry odes to exes with the broken heart and soaring hook of a sixties girl-group tune wrapped up in a tangle of distorted guitars, to skittery, wiry songs about secrets held too long or shared too soon; upbeat power-pop feel-goodness to lush, wistful dreaminess. City Mice covers a lot of sonic ground, but connecting it all is a fearless attitude and a deep respect for the well-crafted pop song.
Ana and Laura Becker are born and raised New Yorkers. City Mice are city mice.
