"Cipherella is a Hip-Hop Priestess in the Making"

Hip-hop priestess in the making Cipherella is blasting this message across the globe, and we couldn’t be more for it. With the premiere of the video for her latest track “Dumb Dumb”, the Alabama-bred, NYC-based artist is using her voice to set a new tone, shaking us from our trance and grooving us in a more fulfilling direction.

More and more, it seems this generation has lost its mind to the mainstream, and with this boom-bap anthem, the self-proclaimed lyricist, humanitarian, and philosopher has made it her mission to not only discredit celebrity as a whole, but she also uses her artistic commentary to call us out–forcing us to reflect in the most rhythmic of ways. In her own words:

“I wrote ‘Dumb Dumb’ to express my frustrations with the dumbing down of society. I loath tabloid journalism and reality television, and hope people can find truth in more meaningful things. Hopefully viewers will connect with my message.”
With the project itself being as gritty as it is fabulous, “Dumb Dumb” is an unapologetic reclamation of reality, complete with an all-female cast and choreography. - Afropunk

"Cipherella is a unique artist in all senses of the word"

In today’s world of rappers there are artists who seem like they are just copies of each other as well as those who are in their own creative lane. Cipherella is easily the latter. I hit her up to discuss her new EP S3V3N, the sources behind her creativity and what separates her from the rest of the rappers out right now.

If there’s anything I learned from Cipherella it’s that everything she does has a purpose and meaning behind it. “Do nothing without intention” to the highest degree. This meaningfulness begins with her name which is a direct connection to one of the cores of hip – hop – the cypher. However, it also extends to the literal circle cyphers usually are in as well the connection of male and female – the two “L”s in her name. The title of her EP, S3V3N, is stylized the way it is to not only reflect the Holy Trinity but there are two threes – there are three consonants. And, the day it releases – the month and date will equal seven. - Paul Barnes

"Sway In The Morning Freestyle Cipher"

Cipherella starts the show by discussing how she got interested in music and how her passion for music began. She also talked about how she grew up listening to Blues and that inspired her to learn how to play instruments. - Sway's Universe

"FORCE OF NATURE CIPHERELLA’S POWERFUL MUSIC PULLS FROM REAL-LIFE TRAGEDY"

Thanks to climate change, natural disasters, from tornadoes to hurricanes to wildfires, are so frequent that it’s possible to become desensitized to their impact. For Cipherella, however, it’s impossible to shake the devastation Mother Nature wreaked on her life in 2011. After she and her mother lost their Tuscaloosa, Alabama home to a tornado, she decided to take a leap, move to New York, and create music. It has certainly paid off: Cipherella’s now the host for New York’s NuYorican’s Poets café and working on moving music that sits with listeners. - Bitch Media

"“Fun, witty, straight to the point. “Petty” is the equivalent to your morning coffee with an extra shot of espresso; exactly what you need to get through the day.”"

NYC based emcee, songwriter, and musician Cipherella releases a new single titled “Petty” produced by DopeBoyzMusic. She is premiering it right here on RESPECT. Mag and we are honored! The track is beyond fun and anthemic and you might break your replay button with this one. In “Petty” Cipherella shoots a warning at those who dare to try her. She is always down to be petty and take things to another level. - Tracy Mitchell

"Cipherella’s style is a combination of Hip-Hop, soul, poetry, and blues."

Today rap’s musical atmosphere is the most diverse it’s ever been. From mainstream artists to the underground scene, some of Hip-Hop’s emerging rappers are carving their own lane and changing the game one bar at a time. Like other female rappers putting forth an effort to make a name for themselves, Alabama native, Cipherella, is a work in progress — battling joy and pain, perseverance and defeat, fighting between the sunshine and the rain of this rap game. - Njera Perkins

Bio

Cipherella is a talented emcee, songwriter, and musician who is skilled in the art of storytelling. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa, AL, Cipherella sought refuge in New York City in 2013- two years after she and her mother lost everything in a tornado- to further her musical career and solidify herself as a artist contender. Since her arrival in the big apple, Cipherella has been featured on Sway in the Morning, twice, she has performed at 2019 SXSW-where her music video “Dumb Dumb” was nominated for best music video-, Brooklyn Academy of Music, LinkedIn’s Transform Her event, opening act for Toni Braxton at 2019 Pittsburgh Pride Fest, and a main stage artist at BAMS Fest in Boston. In March 2020, Cipherella will be embarking on a month long tour in Europe, where she will perform with Sa Roc, NF, Smino, and Tyler the Creator; all of this in preparation for the April release of her EP "S3V3N."

Cipherella’s lyrical prowess was left uncontested after her critically acclaimed visual release of “Moments” was internationally recognized; winning twelve video awards and numerous acceptances into film festivals. Comparable to Queen Latifah and Bahamdia, Cipherella is fully vocal when it comes to expressing frustrations and agitations through her dominant, cultured, and quite often-rebellious lyrics. Far different from what one would expect especially in today’s mainstream society that has encapsulated the feminine aspect of Hip-Hop into a mere “body over bars” motif, Cipherella is one to travel against the stream while still delivering music we all relate to.

Influenced by Tupac Shakur, Outkast, Joi Gilliam, and Erykah Badu, those who have followed Cipherella’s career can agree that she is cut from the same cloth and that their influences are the DNA strands embedded in her unique and ever-evolving style. Afropunk deemed Cipherella “A Hip Hop Priestess in the making” and stated that they could not be more for the message she was relaying and Bitch Media cited Cipherella as “A breath of fresh air” which is exactly what is needed in today’s climate.
