"Music, Family, ‘Rasslin’: Orange Blossom Jamboree Had It All!"

However, we were blown over by POCKiT, a power funk trio from South Florida. Later we realized we should have recognized two of them as members of another great funk ensemble, Fusik: keyboard player Chip Gardner and bassist J. (Jason) Spencer. They were joined by Moi Linares on drum kit.

Familiar and yet fresh, their approach attracted lots of ears for some great originals such as “Juice” and “Gordita.” For “Coconut Boogaloo,” they were joined by tenor player Rob Smiley, another South Florida stalwart. Spencer solicited “beverages” for the band, reminding us: “If the band is lubricated, then the crowd is undomesticated!” Artist-at-large Michael Nivens (Ajeva) came out to help send Stevie Wonder’s “Too High” sky high and stayed up for their closers “23” and “Driving Out,” including a space bass romp from Spencer. - musicfestnews.com

"Check out POCKiT"

Today we’d like to introduce you to POCKiT.

POCKiT was born after late-night jams and recording sessions in the culturally infused South Florida. Charles “Chip” Gardner (keys and organ) and Moi Linares (drums) first connected back in 2017 and began to experiment with sounds inspired by bands such as Medeski, Martin, & Wood, Stevie Wonder, and Herbie Hancock. Later, J. Spencer (bass) came along with his unique bass lines and solid musicianship to fill the missing piece of this project.

Mixing the depths of funk classics with original Soul and Jazz compositions gave life to the distinctive improvisational spark that now represents POCKiT.

Our first single “Driving Out” plays a tasty four on the floor groove over melodic phrases making room for a soulful ending improvisation. “Broken Funk,” our second single, mixes a bluesy guitar riff, with hard-swing funk grooves. Now, we continue working on our EP album planned to be released this year.

We create music to connect with people and transmit the passion immersed in our sound to boost their energy. Our inspiration comes from other artists who have felt the funkiness and grooves in their veins just like we do. Each show, each recording session, each rehearsal represents the hard work and love we chose to put into our art.

Whether people listen to our music live or on their phones, we hope our sound resonates with their memories and emotions.

All of our work is available online, and it can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp. We look for people to support our art by sharing our music, following us on social media and sharing their thoughts on our sound. - http://voyagemia.com

The first single “Driving Out” plays a groovy four on the floor beat-driven along a "space bass romp by Spencer" as described by Musicfestnews, which makes room to jazz-fusion solo improvisations led by Gardner and Zambrano. “Broken Funk”, their second single, mixes a bluesy syncopated guitar riff in combination with hard-swing funk groove. These two releases feature Rodrigo Zambrano (Electric Kif) on the electric guitar.
