Bio
Chanelle Albert & The Easy Company is a Canadian psychedelic folk rock band based out of Sudbury, Ontario, led by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Chanelle Albert, along with Andrew Gagnon (drums), Andrew Ryan (bass/guitar), and Matt Saroka (lead guitar).
Chanelle Albert is a Canadian independent singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based out of Sudbury, Ontario. Her style takes root from a variety of genres including folk, rock'n'roll, and the blues and her craft is greatly influenced by artists such as The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, Nick Cave and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Born in North Bay and raised in the small Canadian town of Verner in beautiful Northern Ontario, Chanelle was inspired to write music and poetry in 2012 at the age of 15. Her first gig was held at the Village Pub and Eatery in Burk's Falls, ON, on February 21, 2014. She has since performed hundreds of shows in numerous venues, including bars, taverns, coffee houses, auditoriums, gymnasiums, sport arenas, parks, parking lots, barns, open fields, and radio and television stations from communities across Ontario. Furthermore, she has shared her beautiful voice in supporting several community and school functions such as the Relay for Life, OuiCare, Christmas telethon events, Remembrance Day ceremonies, and the Canadian citizenship ceremonies.
In 2015, Chanelle released her debut album, How Beautiful We Are, which has earned her two national award nominations in 2016, including the Toronto Independent Music Awards in the category of "Best Folk or Roots", and the Canadian Folk Music Awards in the category of "Young Performer of the Year". That spring her raw live video “Stranger” was a Top Ten Northern Ontario entry in CBC’s Searchlight contest. Also, she was among the top 5 finalists from across Canada in the 2017 Francophone singer/songwriter competition and TV Series, Planète BRBR on TFO. What’s more, Chanelle has released a single titled “Alright” in February 2018 followed by the French version “Bien Oui” in March. “Alright” was later chosen as one of the top songs by Folk Music Ontario and the “Song from the Heart” jury which nominated the song for the Ontario Arts Council's 2018 Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award.
Moreover, Chanelle is the recipient of the prestigious Governor General’s Award for her illustrated story "Le Grand dérangement d’Élise". The ceremony was held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa where she received the award from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada on November 19, 2010. Two years later, Chanelle was chosen in the lead role as Cosette in the TOROS production of Les Misérables. The sold out musical was held at the Capitol Center in North Bay which ran from August 8 to 12, 2012.
