Chad Watson is a Los Angeles native, who is not only a staunch hip-hop head but a classically trained musician. He’s a recording artist, songwriter, lyricist, and composer. His songs “Chad Chad Chad“, and “She Don’t Eff Wit Rappers” are steadily generating buzz. Chad has performed alongside acts like the Gutta Twins and Audiopush. From the outside looking in, the artist Chad Watson is a confident, intense, go-getter that seems to never take no for an answer. What’s ironic, is the fact that those who know me personally, know that I am actually very sensitive about my crag craft.

What brought you to the music industry?

After growing up in the church, taking music theory and composition at a Music Conservatory, I began to dabble in writing. After seeing some success, I decided to take making my own music very seriously, and I began to release music nationally.

Tell us about your current project?

My current project is titled The Unimpressed Herbal. It is my second album. This time around, I wanted to push the envelope creatively, utilizing Melodies and vocal abilities I did not Kush on the first project. This gives my audience a more transparent glimpse into my personal side.

Do you have a favorite song from the project?

My favorite song from that project would have to be “Into Me”… It’s my first take on an R&B and soul track, so that is very close to my heart.

What do you want people to get from your music?

I want people to feel something from my music. Whether it’s good, bad, or just therapeutic… If my music and message can resonate with the least one listener. Then that’s all that matters to me.

Born David Watson, Chad grew up practically living in the church. He and his family would go to church three times a week and were very religious. As much as he loathed this experience as a kid, he began to appreciate what the church offered him as he grew older.


"I definitely value it for the structure that it gives me morally, and even the way I heard and experienced music," Watson said.


However, despite developing an appreciation for music at a young age, it wasn't until two and a half years ago that he started taking music seriously after going through some creative roadblocks.


"I hadn't any motivation to create or pursue anything musically. After dealing with this, which I believe many of us do, I found an inspiration to put myself in a more conducive energy. Once I was in a better space, I felt the drive to use my musical composition training and the lyrics and Melodies began to flow out," Watson explained.


After getting over these issues, Watson began dropping music and hasn't looked back since. His new project the unimpressible is meant to "push the envelope" and give his audience "an intimate and uninhibited glimpse into my otherwise mysterious persona".


Outside of music, Watson enjoys running, playing basketball, and even makes his own clothing with materials he finds in downtown LA.


" I...buy leather patches for customizing pieces, and I also make bracelets that I get complimented on quite often honestly," the rapper stated.


This Saturday, the young rapper is set to perform for Clubhouse in Las Vegas at the M Resort
Hotel and looks to release the visual for his track "Chuck Bass" on March 21st.

What was the main influence when it comes to the start of your music career?

I would say the main influence at the start of my career would be the drive to create. Being naturally poetic, and having a musical background from the church, I drive to combine these things seamlessly. In the beginning it was the culmination of these efforts that was my muse.

Can you describe your tone or style when it comes to your music?

I would say that I do not need Lee fit in any category musically… If I had to somewhat describe my tone, it would be in the pocket on Mid to up-tempo tracks, with West Coast Ultra-Modern delivery.

What has your journey been like thus far in the industry? Any pros or cons?

My journey thus far in the industry has been that exactly, a journey… I am receiving accolades, and some of my flowers while I’m here though I am trusting the process and always anxious and hungry for the next step or a level. The pros are the highs, but the highs don’t come without the lows. The cons are many to be listed, but the best advice is to navigate them in a well measured manner.

Who would you most like to collaborate with and why?

I would most likely collaborate with the baby. That is not a co-sign of his artistry, as much as it is a business decision. Right now, arguably he’s one of the hottest rappers out so it would benefit me greatly to have a feature with him. If it were just a musical decision, I would collaborate with Andre 3000.

What message can listeners get from your music?

The message that I send, is from a place of authenticity. If it resonates with just one listener, then I feel like I’ve done my job or part. We all have dark times, but music can be therapeutic and the creation of such or listening to can be just the thing that helps you see the light.

What is your creative process like?

My creative process differs at times. For the most part, I like to zone out, and vibe to a particular song which helps the creative process. Other times I like to park my car somewhere while the sun sets and think about how I’m going to take over the world. - Femi Magazine

Tell us about the development process that culminated in the artist you are today?

The development process was just that, a process... It started from being raised in the church, to cultivating natural Talent from training at music conservatories, to finally making myself vulnerable enough to put out my own craft.


What do you love the most about your profession?

I love being able to touch people on every corner of the globe. The fact that they resonate with my message, is everything for me.

How do you keep yourself productive and retain your creative edge?

I keep myself productive by working in my routine. I wake up daily and respond to emails, and make sure to close deals and placement while never becoming content. I like to be unaffected by social norms and commercial interest, that way it keeps me and my delivery unique.


How would you describe your work to someone who has never seen it?

I would describe my work as a West Coast take on Modern trap. I Rely heavily on originality, and lyricism.





How hard has it been establishing yourself in the industry and what are some of the largest things you've faced?

It can be extremely difficult to establish your own lane for identity in such a heavily populated entertainment industry. I strive to give back to the community, which Separates Me from many artists unfortunately. Some of the largest adversarial things I've faced, are rejections. Sometimes the rejection births self-doubt, and I learn to deal with it too. I've even experienced racial bias in this entertainment industry, but you just keep moving forward.


If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?

I would definitely tell myself to start sooner, I wish I had begun my journey at the age of 20 or even 21.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever gotten and do you follow it?

The best piece of advice I've ever gotten was to keep putting out content... And yes, I definitely follow that. It's very important, to give your fans and listeners new material. The value of visuals can't be overstated either.


You have an incredible career – what have been your highlights?

The highlights of my career would have been performing for the gamers cup, the festival for Backwoods Cigars, and performing in Vegas.


Are there any current projects you’re working on that you can tell us about?

I will be in Dallas Texas for Cinco de Mayo. I will be doing press runs and a meet-and-greet to promote the latest music visual of mine titled whoa.

When music is your passion it’s hard to do anything else. As a musical artist, Chad Watson would be no exception. Creating and composing all his own music, Chad Watson does what he loves. Staying true to what he cares for and where his roots are is what has helped him rise to where he is now and will help him continue his journey towards his goals and dreams. With a little help from some friends and the support of his team, it’s a new world out there for him. With performances coming up soon in the Oklahoma and Texas area, we will have our chances to see him face to face.



Growing up in California, Los Angeles specifically, Chad developed a love for music, but didn’t decide till he was in his twenties that he would want to pursue a career in music professionally. Chad told me, “Music is my passion and the only thing keeping my head above water, often times. This life is a cut throat one, so diving head first into my craft deafens a lot of the chaos, and depression.” What better escape can an artist ask for than their craft.

The cannabis community has really brought to light some of these great artists. With support from the entire industry around the United States, we get to see artists like Chad Watson at our cannabis events and have the opportunity to experience something amazing. Freely experiencing cannabis and what it can do for musical artists and lovers of music alike is a feeling like no other. Creatively letting cannabis just fuel that passion, being a part of it in any capacity is a feeling all of us love once experiencing.



Hoping to inspire others with his music in the same way he has been inspired by Andre 3000 and Kendrick Lamar, Chad Watson hopes to show many the beauty that creating art can bring to your life. Living a life of inspiration, of the goodness you can give to this world is what Chad Watson had dedicated his life to. Speaking of animals, when I asked what animal he wanted to be he said, “Cliche but I’d be a Lion. It’s the king of the jungle and I feel like I’m a very alpha male type of individual. I even have a song lyric saying “I’m a Lion… In the lion’s lair. Lion’s king of the jungle so I lion everywhere”. That’s the opening of “can’t shyt get”.”

Thank you for granting this interview with Occhi Magazine. Congratulations on your career to date. If you weren’t an artist, what would you be and why?

Thanks for having me, I appreciate the opportunity. I went to school for criminal law, and my dad is the district attorney…so no doubt, I’d be a prosecuting attorney.

How did you get into music?

Being raised in the church taught me the value of good music. Note choice and delivery are everything. After informal training from the church, my parents enrolled me in the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music where I was formally taught to read, write, and compose piano music. With a strong background in music theory, I gave writing lyrics a shot shortly after college.

Who would you love to collaborate with and why?

I would love to collab with Andre 3k. He’s incredibly influential and doesn’t grant many features. I idolize his style and look, he’s a huge influence on my image.

What has been your biggest challenge as an artist and how do you overcome it?

Can’t speak for other artists but I’m sure they’ll say something similar. The many “no’s” you receive as an artist can be overwhelming. At least, discouraging. There’s really no way to prepare for rejection, you just gotta find a way to be ok with it and push forward. At times, that can be easier said than done.

Please explain your creative process, and how the pandemic has impacted your artistry?

When I find an instrumental I like, I play it on repeat for days. I’ll sit in the car and zone out. Writing melodies, cadences, figuring note choice, and what pocket of delivery I wanna use. There are several diff minutia that’s involved as well, but that’s mainly how I create. The pandemic has actually made it easier for me as a creative. With all the extra space and less interaction, it really allowed me to create in peace.

Please tell us more about your latest project.

The latest project is titled “The Unimpressible”. It’s a more transparent yet vulnerable view of me. Traditionally I pick up-tempo, modern beats to rap on. As of late, we’ve been pushing the envelope creatively, exploring diff voices and genres.

Can you share any information on other projects in the pipeline?

My song “Bang” will be released with a music video and merch line in December. I’m excited about this. I partnered with MaisonTIET for a line of hemp sweaters with removable pouch technology. We’ve worked hard with manufacturing companies all over the country to deliver an organic, stylish, and functional sweater. It’s my first merchandise collaboration, so it’s super special to me.

Aside from music, your philanthropical efforts include working with the Think Wattz Foundation, the Watts Community Core, Havasole, and the Humanity Heroes Project. Please tell us more about these initiatives and how our readers may get involved

Thank you for mentioning that. I’ve managed to give away hundreds of blankets, hot meals, shoes, and backpacks full of essentials, to the needy and underserved by partnering with the Think Wattz Foundation, the Watts Community Core, Havasole, and Humanity Heroes Project. The. Think Wattz Foundation delivers water to inner-city communities and donates a portion of their sales to the city of Watts. About 2 months ago I partnered with Havasole to package and donate shoes to programs for inner-city children. The Humanity Heroes Project delivers backpacks of blankets and much-needed essentials to families across south-central, I’m just glad to be a part. They do this weekly.

“I don’t do anything without smoking weed. For sure if I’m about to write, or listen to beats, I always like to get in that extra creative mode. It sets the tone,” Chad Watson told us during a recent meetup in LA.

The up-and-coming LA-based rapper has been showing up everywhere in recent years, developing his style and honing himself as an artist.

In the past six months, Watson has dropped eight self-produced singles. He’s now working on a full-length album, something he says takes a lot more time and thought than the one-off jams he’s put out so far.

Watson regularly appears at cannabis-related events and has sponsor relationships with weed brands THC Design and Zeki Genetics, both based in Los Angeles.

He calls the two companies “my two families in the cannabis scene right now.”

Watson has been close with Zeki Genetics for a while, a company that’s currently behind Yung LB’s new Ice Kream dispensary. Zeki has strong connections to the legacy culture.

He plans to be at the Ice Kream dispensary opening event on June 18th, where he previously shot part of the video for his song “Bone.”

Bob Marley had it right 25 years ago. We just had to go through all that legally. Weed and music always went hand in hand.


“They were the earliest people to really jump on board and support me,” Watson said. “I like what they’re doing.”

Watson’s relationship with the boutique brand THC Design might seem less obvious, but Watson says he found them to be on the same page.

“They’re new school and I like that they’re very hands on in their approach. They’re choosy about how they want to deal with dispensaries and relationships. And that’s how I am too,” Watson said.

“Once you find likeminded brands like that it makes it all easy.”

As sponsors, the brands send Watson to events to perform and keep him supplied with weed. He’s an OG smoker, into the heavy indicas that LA is known for, and finds a favorite in THC Design’s Crescendo strain.

He says he’s interested in eventually forming his own strand (ie., strain + brand) and is exploring options.

A trained musician since his youth, Watson is on the come up as an area rapper.

He says that weed and music complement each other.

“Kind of like music and fashion. You can’t really have one without the other,” Watson said.

He said that he started smoking in college, after having to shake off the stigma that was taught to him growing up. Now, weed is a part of his image. Being a musician, he says, it makes sense.

“Music, that culture, is about having a good time. And that’s usually the ultimate way to have a good time, sparking up,” Watson said.

1. Tell us about your background in music and how it came to be?
I grew up in a very Christian environment and was always in the church. Whether it was choir rehearsal, Sunday school, or bible study, my mom always had a reason to have me in church. The musical melodies and harmonies of the lead singers and various vocal sections of the choir always captivated me. The institution of the black church prides itself on the musical abilities of the choir, musicians and director. None of this was lost on me. I honed my pension for note choice and melodic delivery from a very early age and from professionals that would never settle for anything less than perfect.
When I was 9 years old, I began formal musical training at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music. At the conservatory, I learned music theory and was classically trained on the piano. The combination of the conservatory training and what I received from my church upbringing laid the groundwork for a solid musical foundation. I would later lean into those experiences when creating my own songs.


2. How did you get your start in the record industry?


As I got older, I would be around different creatives that would be in the studio, recording songs, and making instrumentals. Originally, I never wanted to create music myself, though I always took a liking to writing. I would support those around me making music, until eventually they wanted to hear what music I'd make, if given the opportunity. I made a few connections, recorded a few songs and hit the ground running. I've been fortunate enough to have my music played all around the world, and have shared some of the biggest stages with the biggest names in music.


3. In addition to music, tell us about your other passions and what motivates you?


Giving back is very important to me, so I've managed to give away hundreds of blankets, hot meals, shoes, and backpacks full of essentials, to the needy and underserved by partnering with the Think Watts Foundation, the Watts Community Core, HavAsole, and the Humanity Heroes Project. I think it's one's duty to give back to one's community, especially after gaining any success.

My mother sings in the church, and always encouraged me to sing as well. Choirs and musical training lead me to develop an ear for quality sound. That being an anchor, kept my musical attack pure.

I’m from Baldwin Hills, California.

3: How did you get into music?

I got into music theory at 10 years old. I started my professional hip hop career in 2018.
4: What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

The most challenging thing I’ve overcome was the passing of my grandmother. To this day, I still have difficult moments but I rest assured she watches down on me.

5: Are you currently signed or independent?

Currently I’m independent, and I’ll try to stay that way as long as possible.

6: Who inspires you the most musically?

My biggest musical inspiration is Andre 3k. I think he’s the most underrated artist ever.

7: What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

I want people to feel empowered and part of something real. I go through trials like everyone, but we can all emerge triumphant.

8: What is your greatest achievement as a musician?

Exclusive Interview with Chad Watson a Classically Trained Musician. Chad Watson is an American recording artist, songwriter, lyricist, and composer. Who is a confident, intense, go-getter that seems to never take no for an answer Chad Watson two songs called “Chad Chad Chad“, and “She Don’t Eff Wit Rappers” are steadily generating buzz on all digital streaming platform. We had the chance to interview him about his background, challenges and achievement in the music industry.


1: Tell us about your background getting to where you are today?

My mother sings in the church, and always encouraged me to sing as well. Choirs and musical training lead me to develop an ear for quality sound. That being an anchor, kept my musical attack pure.

2: Where are you from?

I’m from Baldwin Hills, California.

3: How did you get into music?

I got into music theory at 10 years old. I started my professional hip hop career in 2018.

4: What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

The most challenging thing I’ve overcome was the passing of my grandmother. To this day, I still have difficult moments but I rest assured she watches down on me.

5: Are you currently signed or independent?

Currently I’m independent, and I’ll try to stay that way as long as possible.

6: Who inspires you the most musically?

My biggest musical inspiration is Andre 3k. I think he’s the most underrated artist ever.

7: What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

I want people to feel empowered and part of something real. I go through trials like everyone, but we can all emerge triumphant.

8: What is your greatest achievement as a musician?

9: Do you produce your own music? If not who do you work with?

I do not produce my own beats, but i work with a couple producers. Snapz, a platinum producer from Michigan is one of my major contributors.

10: Who is one artist you wish you could work with?

One artist i wish i could work with is Prince. Alive, I’d love to work with Andre 3k of course.

11: Tell us about any new music you have coming out? When is coming out? What is it about?

Two new songs, “iRock” and “iKnow why” will be out this summer. They’re about that feeling you get driving down the coast with the water on your left and wind in your face.

12: What does a day inside your shoes look like?

A day in my shoes starts early with answering emails. Then I head to the studio or get ready for a photo-shoot. I grab food when i can, and do it all again the next day.

Born to a family of professionals in Los Angeles, Chad has fond memories of his childhood.

Raised in the church, Chad grew up listening to gospel music and singing in the choir until he was exposed to Redman’s album, Malpractice, at age thirteen. His family nurtured his talent and enrolled him in the prestigious Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies or L.A.C.E.S.

Chad learned musical theory first and after graduating earned the recognition of being a classically trained pianist. “I took theory which gave me a solid musical foundation and then I was able to take piano after that.”

After graduating Chad followed in his father’s footsteps, going to college to study criminal law before pivoting towards music.

“I was going to be a prosecuting attorney and I got pretty far into it, says Chad.

After visiting a studio and bringing some of his written verses along, Chad felt the urge to go full speed and in 2019 he released his first single, “Chad, Chad, Chad”. Keeping his government name and adopting the moniker, The Unimpressible, he went about performing on the local Los Angeles scene while also shopping his music to any media outlet that would hear him.
Unwilling to take no for an answer, Chad created his own electronic press kit and submitted it to thousands of outlets until his digital footprint became undeniable. Over time, his name became one of the most notable names in LA which led to a range of opportunities including the chance to open for artists.

In the four years since Chad has been on the scene, he’s also become an ambassador for several cannabis brands and performed at various events including KushStock. In the upcoming weeks, Chad is set to perform at the Blaxicana Fest in November 2022.

Describing himself as a “Hip hop enthusiast, lyricist, and all-around music connoisseur,” Chad states, “I’m a fan of anything that’s good, or quality put together. But my home would be hip-hop.”


Chad fell in love with music at a very young age, growing up in the church surrounded by gospel and choir. But it was Redman’s debut studio album Malpractice that got him hooked to the genre of rap as a whole. And his fifth time in the studio ever, he whipped up “She Don’t F With Rappers,” which instantly picked up organically with 100K streams to date.

Now after a string of singles, Chad is excited as ever to be dropping his debut album titled Lord of the Unimpressed.
Growing up in Baldwin Hills but now residing in the Inglewood area, Chad Watson first experienced fame as a teenager on the reality television show titled Baldwin Hills.
