Bio
Blood Sun goes for an intense, no holds barred sound with their visceral self-titled effort. The mighty three piece from the mountains of South Carolina may be young, but harbor a mature sound. Done to absolute perfection, their sound has a raw, gritty, almost visceral quality to it. Their approach feels larger than what a trio usually can do: this is due to the fact that all three members share vocals duties, helping to make the sound particularly expansive. Nor does that mean that this distracts them: the drums have a tectonic, almost physical quality with Caleb Lee creating a virtual maelstrom of urgency. Andrew Duncan’s guitar can soar or descend into the abyss depending on his mood, with both done with the utmost of care. Finally, the intensity of the bass lets the whole collection rumble with righteous fury. Drawing heavily from metal’s glorious past, from full-on rushes to more contemplative atmospherics, Blood Sun lets a narrative take hold over the entirety of the collection. Due to this narrative approach the songs deserve to be heard together, for they build off each other in a masterful way. Evolution proves to be of the utmost importance as the narrative that ties it together feels akin to a journey sometimes. -Beach Sloth Blog
