Okay – so even if I lied my hardest to you at this point, you all know me well enough to know that straight ahead rock’n roll is about the biggest challenge I can have thrown my way. There’s no convincing you that I’m sitting here simultaneously reviewing this album from Blindside Thunder at the same time as re-watching Rock Of Ages for the 6th time today – I know that you won’t believe me…
And though it might not be the particular genre of choice for your humble reviewer, as I have found with ALL music - there is ALWAYS something to like.
Sometimes you just have to be in the right mindset. How would a typical fan of TRUE rock listen to The Storm? LOUD. So I cranked it. Much better.
Within seconds you can identify two things through the crunchy guitars and crisp drums – Blindside Thunder is not out to go and redefine rock’n roll, they’re here to make the music that they and so many others still identify with and love more than any other. Seriously – the fans of 80’s style rock’n roll and metal are still among the most passionate I’ve ever met when speaking about their genre.
You can easily hear that passion in Blindside Thunder. With an up-tempo rock album that suggests you not only leave your pillows on your bed, but throw them out completely as there will be no sleep to be had while this album is on. These are the rock-party anthems; certainly not to be confused with the vice-versa! The production and the performances are geared up to rock the entire time, matching the energetic themes of the lyrics. To pull it off as well as Blindside Thunder does is almost a tribute to those nostalgic times when rock rolled over the Earth
Musically, I’d put this band as right in the middle of David-Lee-Roth-era-Van-Halen-meets-Kiss. They take the anthem-style rock approach that Kiss had to the writing of their hooks and through the vocals bring it to the more Van Halen side of things. There are some deviations towards the end – “Say Goodbye” is a catchier pop-rock side of Blindside Thunder, whereas the track to follow “She Wants Sex” almost incorporates a Ramones-ish feeling and a little harder edge to the vocals.
While I might always be looking for bands to re-invent the wheel in the musical universe, I can never argue that more of a good thing ISN’T a good thing, cause it IS…a good thing. If you’re a rock fan, if you’ve read through this review and you know and love the bands we’ve referenced in comparison, then there’s no reason you shouldn’t go out and get The Storm right now. BlindSide Thunder play their music with complete skill & enthusiasm and could easily hold their own against the heavy-hitters of rock.

If you're looking for some crunchy, driving, good-time hard rock, then New England area band BlindSide Thunder's album, The Storm, is going to be right up your alley!
The Storm is BlindSide Thunder's(BST) first full-length studio album and was originally released in May of 2013. This album is packed full of high-energy jams ranging from a more southern crunch with short hooky leads to more speedy, punk influenced jams to just straight hard rock! The Storm is a solid pick for the crew looking for a somewhat diverse bit still mainstream hard rock album for their next party. Check out my favorite tracks "Blue Agave", "She Wants Sex" and "Take Me Down"!

The band’s first official full length release is the “The Storm”. Released in May of 2013 The Storm, shows the diversity and commitment to fun party rock with a purposeful foundation in musicianship.
Say what you will about the 80′s, but it did bring forth some great hard rock. And that is exactly the era Blindside Thunder so perfectly captures on this album. The band debuts its album while the era of hard rock is polluted with Death Metal, Black Metal, Stoner Rock, Thrash Metal and Nu Metal, to name just a few of the sub-genres doing the rounds.
But Blindside Thunder is different, in true old-school fashion; they sound like a pure hard-rock dream team that just walked out of the genre’s finest era. The resulting music is a full-throttle, unapologetic rock album, brimming with the same party attitude and sense of fun that made 80’s rock so legendary.
Here’s another case of where the whole ends up being much greater than the sum of its three parts. These guys are having fun and the lyrics and music reflect that. As you listen to the album, each member clearly has his own moments, but none seem extraneous, they are always within the context of the song.
One thing to understand about the album “The Storm”, is that this is one hard rocking album. This brings back a Hard Rock sound that has been lost for so many years. The album is a blend between nostalgia and modern rock, but really fun and refreshing because we haven’t gotten anything like this in a while. The mixing of rock styles, while all the rage in young bands, are rarely incorporated in such a powerfully raw and eclectic manner.
These guys sound like they just want to play music and they do it honestly! This leads to awesome tunes for the honest rocker. Check out “Dream Girl”, “My Baby Loves To Dance”, “Take Me Down”, “Slow Hard And Steady” and “Blue Agave” to grab a taste of what I mean.
In the last 20 years there has been very little in the way of hard-driving pure rock and roll. Sure you’ve had some alternative rock that’s been awesome and some great grunge and metal bands – but no-one has delivered an album of head banging, turn it up and blast out the neighbors kind of rock and roll…until the release of “The Storm” by Blindside Thunder!
