When
blues singer/guitarist Blind Lemon Phillips hits the stage with his
tight, furious rhythm crew and wailing 4-piece horn section, "the Lemon
Squeezers", audiences know they're in for a night of big-time fun.
Originally
from Buffalo, N.Y., Phillips and his band bring the crowd alive, with
hot and sweaty blues, funk and soul, as well as, top-notch originals. Phillips
has been honing his skills as a performer for 25 years. Its all there,
in every note he plays. Phillips' "go for broke" performance style,
combined with his band's relentless grooves, are displayed in full, on
"Funkytown - Live @ Hyde Street" - Blind Lemon's terrific 2008 CD
release.
Relocating to Asheville, N.C. from San Francisco, Phillips returns to the south, where he lived his formative years as a musician, playing the clubs in and around the state of Virginia. With a new home base, Blind Lemon Phillips continues to expand his audience; in his favorite part of the country.
In 2014, Blind Lemon Phillips released his first DVD - "Live @ Isis Music Hall - Brother Wolf Benefit". A concert in support of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, a "no kill" organization, located in Asheville, N.C.The DVD captures Phillips' gritty, down-home guitar and vocals and shines the spotlight on every member of his dynamic band.
And speaking of the band - they really know how to deliver - and feel at home, playing intimate venues and parties, to full scale concerts, festivals and corporate events.
Blind Lemon Phillips can scale it's performance from 40 minutes to 4 hours, with non-stop funky originals and R&B covers, done the "Lemon" way.
