Bio
Black Atticus is a up and coming hip hop /spoken word artist, who embodies the genuine feel of a love for life, words, rhythm, expression, culture and music. He blames his affinity for hip hop on a mother who played The Beastie Boys and Jazzy Jeff on .45's every morning before he went to school, and a father who loved blasting Earth Wind & Fire. Heavily influenced by great jazz vocalist and timeless story tellers, Atticus' approach to hip hop is fueled with the belief that so long as he has a voice and there are ears to hear that voice, then the 'AMAZING' can STILL happen. Born in Atlanta, GA and raised in Knoxville, TN, Atticus found his artistic roots for story as an understudy for the legendary 'Carpetbag Theatre, Inc.'** in the summer of '99. Carpetbag gave Atticus the opportunity to co-author plays and spear head the movement for youth-voices being heard in his city when they started an open mic event known as The Cafe Noir. To this day, Atticus credits his command of crowd and stage performance to the mentoring he's gained from artist who have been professionally performing for decades long before he ever knew what a beat drop was, or how to redefine the flow of a four-count.
His words and music selections are often described as 'genius' for he's often received praise from not only hip hop fans, but those who never knew they'd like a lyricist of his stature so much. This type of praise moves him to continuously upgrade his skill sets to remain 'timelessly definitive'. His audience ranges from all who can hear a beat and appreciate harmonies and rythms, yet above all; people who find relief from the norm to those who simply enjoy intelligent entertainment.
