Bio
Big Atomic is a jam/funk/rock band based out of Louisville, Kentucky. The band blurs the lines between funk, rock, rhythm and blues. From pulsing dance tunes to improvised extended jams, smooth r&b to funky rock and roll, Big Atomic has proved to be a very versatile group. Big Atomic is Ryan Gilchrist (vocals/guitar), Morgan McCall (drums), Matt Robinson (percussion), Andrew Stephens (bass guitar), Shannon Vetter (sax/vocals) and Micah Greene (guitar/vocals).
The band formed in 2013 in Murray, KY and has been working hard ever since. Within a year, the band played several shows throughout western Kentucky and southern Illinois, performing high energy live shows that truly define the band. Big Atomic released their self-titled debut EP in August of 2014. In December of 2014, the band performed on “Sounds Good: Live Lunch”, aired and hosted on the local NPR affiliate WKMS. The band was also featured in the Jan/Feb issue of Relix Magazine in their “On The Rise” section. Their single “Letting Go” was on the compilation CD alongside the likes of Punch Brothers and Gov’t Mule. Big Atomic won the second annual WKMS Battle of the Bands in March of 2015, and continued to gig heavily throughout the region including several festival appearances. After re-releasing their EP on a national level with Tinderbox Music, the group played Austin, TX during SXSW in 2016. Other more notable shows include Terrapin Hill's Harvest Festival, Paducah Riverfront Concert Series with Ripe (Boston, MA), and Levitt Pavilion Summer Concert Series at the amazing Steelstacks in Bethlehem, PA. 2017 is looking to be yet another amazing year and most recently we are excited to be playing for a chance to perform at this year's Summer Camp Music Festival. Cheers to our friends, fans, and fellow musicians who make it all possible.
