Baby & the Luvies, a 10-piece soul and R&B horn band, are unlike large party bands like Big Bang Beat and Pride & Joy in that they play original music, and they showcase 11 of their originals on their promising new album, “Tilt Sign.”
Baby & the Luvies come into their own on songs with less complicated arrangements, like “Beginner Scorpion,” a straight ahead R&B shuffle that rocks some quirky lyrics involving reptiles in coffee cans and smoking dragons. Formed in 2011, San Francisco-based Baby & The Luvies is an original high-energy soul-inspired dance band. Since winning the Haight-Ashbury Battle of the Bands in 2013, the 7-piece group has been blowing the minds of bay-area club goers with their energetic dance-friendly shows driven by strong female vocals and high-impact horn arrangements that Death and Taxes Magazine says, “smacks of an early Ike and Tina.” Baby & The Luvies has performed sold out shows throughout the Bay Area supporting national touring acts including Grammy-winner Fantastic Negrito, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, The Peach Kings, Con Brio, BeatMosaic, Gene Washington and the Ironsides, Hotel Eden and Matt Jaffe &The Distractions. Since 2016, Baby & The Luvies has played dozens of the San Francisco Bay Area's hottest clubs including Great American Music Hall, The Chapel, Boom Boom Room and Slim's.
