We recently connected with Aviana And The Pure Root and have shared our conversation below.
Aviana And The Pure Root , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
It’s a daily practice. I have to constantly remind myself that I was given my vision for a reason and that I’ve put in the work to be where I am today. When I’m offered an opportunity that scares the shit out of me, but is something that I know is in alignment with my calling- I do it scared. Every time. I consistently show up for myself no matter what.... - Bold Journey

Tell us about the inspiration behind your new single “On & On.”
I wrote “On & On” in 2021 when I got back from a family trip to Kemet, or what they call today, Egypt. I came back to LA to my home in Venice and was just on fire with all the energy I had just downloaded from frolicking around Pyramids, temples, and such. I ended up being courted by this guy as I was riding my bike down the boardwalk on the beach one day, and the encounter inspired me so much that I went home and wrote the song. - Guitar Girl Magazine

Bio
Aviana And The Pure Root is a rock and soul artist and is joining the fight to create healing, balance and spiritual rejuvenation on the planet. Aviana, who credits herself as being an Afrofuturist artist, is a vocalist, guitar player, composer, songwriter and producer. Aviana is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, yet spent many years of her young adult life on the East coast and most recently Los Angeles. She attended Howard University for undergrad, majoring in Public Relations and New York University for grad school in the Visual Culture: Costume Studies program. Aviana’s revelation about being called to music came after an extreme case of post-graduate school burnout and New York blues, activating a search for her true calling in life.
Immediately after finishing grad school, Aviana booked a one way ticket to Europe to “find herself”. After randomly reminiscing on how she rejected her mother’s push for her to pursue music as a child, she came up with the idea to suddenly try her shot at pursuing a music career. This resulted in cold turkey performances while in Paris at various open mics, cabarets and band features singing mostly Billie Holiday songs.
Aviana’s dabbling in music while in Paris was enough to spark a fire and carried itself back to the States with her in 2014. Aviana soon took curiosity in the first electric guitar she was gifted from an uncle back in high school, but had never learned how to play. Though a largely self-taught musician and songwriter, the St. Louis based musician “LC” took Aviana under his wing beginning her entrance into the world of playing guitar and suddenly changing the course of her life. This was followed by a brief round of music theory lessons from St. Louis native and musician JD Hughes, vocal lessons under the tutelage of her uncle Charles Robinson and mentorship by her great uncle, classical music composer and pianist Joseph Hull. In the midst of her beginning to pursue music, Aviana's mother had a severe stroke, making Aviana her main caregiver for three years. Music, is what helped her through and sent her on a path of devoting herself to evolutionary healing practices.
Most of the songs Aviana has released thus far are recorded in the healing frequency of 432hz as opposed to the standard 440hz, to intentionally transmit higher, spiritually grounding vibrations to its listeners.
Aviana released her first single “Good Morning, Come Noon” in September of 2018, followed by the 2020 "Children of the Dark" and "I AM." Her first EP PROPHECY was released later in October of 2020, in which she is the Writer and Composer for the instrumentation, the singer of both lead and background vocals and rhythm and lead guitar player. She co-produced the EP alongside St. Louis based Engineer and Producer, WhoisTimothy. Aviana And The Pure Root has been featured in publications like Guitar Girl Magazine, Voyage LA & Voyage STL, SHOUTOUT LA, Grimy Goods' 'Best Songs of October 2020' playlist and interviewed on the radio show MultiTrack Revolution on KVCM Live.
With such eclectic musical influences, Aviana cannot be put into a box in regard to her style of music composition. Some of her influences include Bob Marley, , Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Willow Smith, WizKid, Chronixx, Kid Cudi, Esperanza Spalding, Masego, Alice Coltrane, Sun Ra, Earth Wind and Fire, The Silversun Pickups, Billie Holiday and Smashing Pumpkins to name a few. Inspired by her study of natural healing during the care of her mother and her own health struggles, Aviana started the health and wellness platform, Live While Living by Aviana, through which she sells healing, organic herbal teas.
An artist with vision, creativity and is on a mission to raise the world’s vibration one song at a time, we have only a small glimpse of what is to come for Aviana as she continues to emerge in the world. She is currently working on her debut album.
