New York-based singer/songwriter Annelise Collette offers a triptych to both the bright lights of clubland and the dimmer steamy hue of downtown, in debut full-length release “Out Of This World.” The electro-pop/dubstep artist delivers an ingenious palette of sing-along melodies and inspired, inventive production, with acclaimed arranger, mixer, engineer and producer Stefan Moessle at the controls. As a Musical Theater graduate of the University of Florida and the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Collette is anything but a twirling dance diva; throughout “World,” her vocals shine with the savvy of a seasoned pro featuring lyrics about love, loss, lust and the inner workings of the mind amid the search for such.
First single “Waiting For,” which previewed the full-length disc in August 2012, remains a signature song for Collette, as its frenetic frazzle of beats, bass and electronica undulate their way across the dancefloor—and there’s plenty more where that came from. Title track “Out Of This World” showcases the kind of flypaper chorus that could draw in pop minions by the thousands; it’s wonderfully catchy, oh-so sing-able, features one of Collette’s crispest vocal performances—and is universal in its message of devotion. “You take me out of this world (you take me out of it)/And I don't know when I’ll be back again, My mind’s made up, I’ll be here till the end.”
Skittish, push-and-pull, strings-laden “Dig” is an elegantly produced pop/dance stinger, with refreshing hints of acoustic instrumentation; while the creepy “Left in the Dark” turns the tables, with a deliciously sinister tale of potential self-reflection cum self-destruction, as Collette taunts, “No one can pull me out of this prison that I have made, I lay here in the dark and wait for me to fade.”
Hit-worthy “You Got Me Now” offers a cool, downtown vibe, with tempo that grows more fervent as its lyrical passion builds. With a driving electronic beat dressed with rubbery bass accents, our heroine offers a skyscraping vocal as she offers her hand—and heart—to a would-be suitor: “You got me weak in the knees, seems like you gotta spell o-over me/Don’t you know I’d give it to you willingly… All you gotta do is ask.”
And “You” is a synth-packed midtempo buzzworthy track, replete with blips, whips and swirling rhythms, with a slow thrust of percussion that hints at the song’s tug of war over a guy who’s so wrong, but irresistible all the same. Amid a beautifully layered harmonic vocal, Collette pleads: “Everybody keeps asking why I’d fall for a guy who spends his time drinking for no cause, smoking to get lost, but all I can say, I wanna feel your pain/Your lovin’s got me twisted, but if I go I’ll miss it.”
Collette’s star shines with effervescence across the whole of “Out Of This World.” Already, the artist has placed songs in several indie films and recently pacted with MTV, VH1 and LOGO for her music to be featured; while Moessle, a.k.a. Secret-Sounds, has worked with platinum acts throughout Europe, with placements on Bravo, Lifetime and MTV. Together, this potent power couple has all potential to not only shine with “Out Of This World,” but to own it.—Chuck Taylor

Annelise Collette's single, YOU, is a chart topper if I've ever heard one. Recently licensed
by MTV/VH1 and Logo TV, this song is an electronic pop explosion that is very
comparable to Rihanna, Ke$ha and Gaga without being a carbon copy of these artists'
unique sounds. In an industry where almost every female artist sounds the same,
Annelise is creating her own identity; gaining my immediate respect for her contribution to
today's music industry.
Without compromising the integrity of the vocal performance, Annelise allows the track to
breathe while she maintains control of song's overall direction; something only a
seasoned artist can do. Annelise's voice is powerful, and she has total control of the gift
she has been given. I really enjoyed listening to her sing this song and hope to hear
more of her voice in the near future.
The music production (by Stefan Moessle, aka Secret-Sounds) is very good and
provides Annelise with a very marketable sound. Many artists are lacking the proper
production (music, vocal direction and engineering) so their sound tends to come up
short, but fortunately for Annelise, she recognized this fact and chose a professional to
produce her song, YOU.
I would recommend this song to everyone who is a fan of Top 40 pop/dance music. If
you're looking for the next big thing in popular mainstream music, check out Annelise's
new single, YOU, and show your support by purchasing the song to help this awesome
young singer keep creating hot music.
