"El sabor exotica" ... Alewife is a five-member alt-rock combo mining the roots of surf and sci-fi exotica with Latin rhythms from the world's cultural beachfronts. Named for an invasive species that Great Lakes maves "Rake. Burn. Bury." every spring on the white sands of Lake Michigan. Avid supporters of the Surfrider Foundation.
Frontwoman Beverly Gibson sings in three languages with a multi-octave range and bell-ringing tone while wielding a vintage accordion. Guitarist Mitch McNeil channels his life-long love of Link Wray and Manuel Galban. Bassist Colin Toline plumbs the depth charged bottom. While dual drummers Alex Haussmann, congas and djembe, and Miguel Gonzalez, traps and timbales, tap out a percussion discussion of cross-cultural Latin beats.
