The first major Canadian tour of 2017 will be underway beginning January 12th – Brett Kissel‘s Ice, Snow & 30 Below. Aptly named, the 19-date tour will cover 10 dates in Ontario, 1 in Quebec, 4 in Nova Scotia, 2 in New Brunswick and 2 in P.E.I.
Late last year, Kissel, a Juno Award winner, multi Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) award winner, and reigning CCMA Fan’s Choice and Male Artist of the Year, posted a contest on social media to vie for an opening spot at each venue. In mid-December, the lucky winners were announced. Since we here at Canadian Beats are familiar with many of the selected artists and bands, we thought we would give you a little background on who you are going to see.
Ben Hudson, with special guest, Alessia Cohle will be Brett’s openers on January 18, 2017 at River Run Centre,
Guelph, Ontario.
Ben Hudson is a Canadian country music singer and songwriter from Uxbridge, Ontario. I first heard of Ben through a mutual musician friend, Leah Daniels. She mentioned how fantastic he is and I should check him out. So glad I did! Thanks to the CMAO, Ben was kept busy in 2016, performing at some of their showcase events. He also got to play some big festivals, including CMT Music Fest in Kitchener. There was also his release of a single to radio and a music video for “Redneck Summer”. A catchy tune that listening to now, makes me wish we were back in Summer mode. Hudson is a tall drink of water with a cool, refreshing voice. He puts on an entertaining show along side his beautiful fiancé, Brooke. Ben was just recently on Top Country’s ARTISTS TO WATCH in 2017 list. Guelph, get ready for Ben Hudson!
Growing up on his dad’s farm, Ben showed an interest in music from an early age. He started piano at age 5 and took up guitar at age 14. Both his parents were a strong influence on his passion for music with a mother who played guitar and a father who played drums.
There was always country music playing at home, such as Hank Williams, George Jones, Randy Travis and Kenny Rogers. In high school, Ben formed a classic rock band with his brothers playing guitar and bass and his sister on drums. They entered local talent shows and battle of the bands competitions, which is what made Ben realize that music was the path he wanted to pursue. While attending York University for Visual Arts he used every bit of spare time for songwriting and playing music. Ben has transformed into a gifted songwriter and artist. With rich, smooth vocals and a fresh writing style that mixes a new country sound with an old country feel, there is no doubt Ben has a bright future in country music.
Alessia Cohle is a beautiful, smart and talented young lady, who I first met during a CMAO Conference, if memory serves, in 2014. It has been a pleasure to watch her bloom into the rose she is today. She has a Bachelor of Music from University of Western Ontario and is classically trained in voice and piano. Not someone you would think would become a country music artist. However, at eight years old, she attended her first concert – Shania Twain’s, Come On Over Tour and her musical journey began.
Music, especially country music, is what Mississauga native Alessia Cohle is all about! Fresh off her successful, packed-house, Talk To Me, album release show and radio tour, this multi-talented country singer, songwriter, and recording artist has been putting her own stamp on country music. Cohle teamed up with award-winning producers on the creation of her first full-length, FACTOR funded album, Talk To Me.
Her first single from this album, “How Bad”, has been released to Canadian country radio. Alessia co-wrote the single with Douglas Romanow and Adam Searan, and was produced by Romanow, who has collaborated with artists such as Justin Bieber, Johnny Reid, and Chantal Kreviazuk. She has already performed the single at local Ontario festivals throughout the summer, and has been chosen as ‘The Voice’ of Great Lakes Country – Country 103, broadcasting from Little Current, Ontario.
In June 2015, Alessia released her debut EP, Let’s Get Gone, introducing her to the country music scene and capturing the hearts of country music fans with her breakthrough single, Sunday Shoes. The single hit airwaves across country radio in both Canada and the United States. The song made the Top 3 Finalist on Music Road Radio’s “Top 30 New Artists Countdown” for 12 weeks, as well as featured on KX96’s Hot 30 Countdown.
With the momentum of her debut EP and debut full-length album, Cohle spent the last year performing on many stages including the 2016 CCMA’s Country Music Week as part of the house band, Indie Week Canada, Manitoulin Country Fest, many Ontario festivals, co-writing in Toronto and Nashville with great talents, and making many radio appearances on her Canadian East Coast Talk To Me radio tour, as well as television appearances including BT Montreal, CP24 Toronto, CHCH, ‘In The Country with Dave Woods’, and Rogers TV.
Her love of all styles of music has helped Alessia define and create her unique musical style. Her music reflects her personality and is as entertaining as it is empowering. Sweet and sassy; between her unmistakable sound and growing body of work, Alessia is poised to contribute to the future of country music, wherever the sound takes her.

Mississauga country artist set to open for Brett Kissel
Alessia Cohle selected after entering contest
To say Streetsville country artist Alessia Cohle was thrilled to land a gig opening for Juno Award winner Brett Kissel's current tour is a bit of an understatement.
Thrill of a lifetime would actually be more accurate as Cohle will open for Kissel on Jan. 18 at the River Run Centre in Guelph as part of his Ice, Snow and 30 Below Tour.
"I'm beyond excited to be sharing the stage with such an amazing Canadian talent," said Cohle. He's a great performer and I'm looking forward to learning for him as well. This really is a dream come true."
Cohle, who released her most recent album Talk to Me in November, got the opening spot after sending in a video of her performing the album's titular track live at her CD release party in Toronto to the musician via social media as part of his Kick It With Kissel contest. Kissel and a panel selected the winners.
Fans who can't make it out to Guelph can check Cohle out when she heads to the Milton Centre for the Arts for a Jan. 21 performance. - Mississauga News

Occupation:
I’m a country singer-songwriter, recording artist, and also a music educator!
What’s your secret food vice?
Nachos. When I try a new restaurant, I usually look to see if they have them on the menu and I make a mental note to go back and try them. Whenever my friends and I go out for drinks and appetizers they always joke and say, “so Alessia’s getting nachos!”
What is your number one comfort food?
I love open-faced tuna melts. It’s a much healthier alternative to fast food, and really easy to make. Mix some tuna, a little bit of mayonnaise, salt and pepper together and place it on top of toasted bread with a slice of cheddar or mozzarella cheese—delicious.
What is your biggest food challenge?
My biggest challenge is maintaining a balanced diet with such a busy schedule. Between rehearsals, writing, performances and teaching, I need to really focus on what I’m eating and when. I also have a sweet tooth!
What keeps you eating a balanced diet?
With my busy schedule I know I need to keep my energy up. To do that, I have to follow as healthy a diet as possible. Of course, I do like to splurge on the occasional slice of pizza or Chinese food, but just in moderation.
Any food dislikes?
Mushrooms shouldn’t count as food!
Any foods you’ve omitted from your diet?
I don’t believe in omitting foods—I eat everything in moderation. That also includes sweets.
What must you always have in your fridge?
I always need to have eggs in the fridge. There are so many different ways to cook them and they’re so easy to make, especially in a rush!
What are some of your go-to meals?
My favourite go-to meal is a piece of rye toast topped with a bit of smashed avocado, a slice of cheddar cheese, and a poached egg. It’s easy to make, and it tastes great.
Strangest food you’ve ever tried?
Pig’s feet.
What is your favourite dish or food to eat in the fall?
My favourite thing to eat during the fall is chili! It’s one of my favourite homemade dishes—plus you can eat it with nacho chips, which makes it that much better. I also love pumpkin pie to satisfy my sweet tooth.
What is your favourite meal to make for guests in your home?
I like to cook pasta with homemade tomato sauce using my Italian grandmother’s recipe. There’s something special about cooking a simple, yet delicious meal.
What is your favourite ingredient to cook with?
Olive oil is a personal favourite. It goes with pretty much everything!
What have you been busy with over the last year?
I’ve been busy writing, rehearsing, and recording my next album, as well as performing. It’s been a whirlwind of a year so far, but I’m really excited to be releasing my album in November.
What’s next for you?
I can’t wait to release my album in November! I’m also excited to attend the CCMAs that are being held in London, Ontario this year. It’s always a great time meeting new people that are involved in the country music industry, as well as meeting up with old friends who I don’t get to see on a regular basis. I also foresee more songwriting trips to Nashville. I always have an amazing time down South! - Viva Magazine

As Indie Week 2015 fires up it's engines for it's 10th anniversary, Canadian Country artist Alessia Cohle, from Mississauga, is also firing up her vocals as she hits the stage on Friday, October 16th at Boots N' Bourbon to debut her new EP "‘Let’s Get Gone’ that was released on June 24th.
While Cohle describes herself graciously as "breaking into country", when you become one of 200 artists at one of the largest independent music industry events in North America, it suggests you are well on your way to breaking through the pack.
The Mississauga native had a very early start in music when she attended Shania Twain's "Come on Over" Tour when she was eight which brought back many fond memories when I covered her at the JUNO Awards years ago. That experience sparked a life long love of music that led her to finish her Bachelor of Music at Western and onto Berklee College of Music – Valencia Campus in Spain - to finish her Master of Music in Contemporary Performance and has played with many talented artists including five-time Grammy award winner Victor Wooten.
Cohle is also involved in various charities, including Tikko Travels, to spread awareness of Autism and often performs for benefits and fundraisers.
Alessia represents what seems to be a new generation of modern country artists that have that rare the ability to attract new fans that might not have listened to that genre before by fusing country with an eclectic blend of influences. Shania did the same long ago and was influenced by artists diverse as Pat Benetar to Def Leppard. Likewise, while Alessia's have ranged from Elvis to Motown. With a touch of popular appeal and catchy lyrics, Cohle has the potential to, in turn, become an influencer.
For aspiring independent artists wondering how you break out and rise to the next level, take a good look at her video "Sunday Shoes". The days of garage-band shaky videos on a Go-Pro is so yesterday. The production quality is well done and rises to the level of aesthetic sophistication that listeners have come to expect.
This is something of an auspicious occasion as Cohle marks the very first featured local artist at the Post and a departure from my usual tastes that tend more toward classical and opera. That is quite an accolade in itself and speaks to Alessia's cross-over appeal that is increasingly critical.
Watch for an update as we bring coverage of Fridays Indie Week including the set at Boots N' Bourbon. Cohle has come a long way since seeing her first concert and we're looking forward to seeing what she can do this week and following up with her to see what's coming next for a rising star. - The Lakeshore West Post

Country music up-and-comer Alessia Cohle is making waves. With her breakthrough hit “Sunday Shoes” from her debut EP Let’s Get Gone, there’s no stopping this Mississauga, Canada native.
Growing up with a bass playing father and singing grandfather, music is something Cohle has always been surrounded by. Her passion was first sparked at a concert by country megastar Shania Twain, and her love of the genre has only grown over the years, solidified by a multitude of songwriting trips to Nashville, Tenn.
With “Sunday Shoes” receiving considerable airplay, and “Let’s Get Gone” playing well across Canada, Cohle is poised to continue rising in the country charts with her debut LP to be released in early 2016. Keep up with Cohle at www.alessiacohle.com.
WiMN: Because music is in your blood, how has that influenced your musical journey?
AC: My family has been my biggest influence growing up, and still is to this day. They introduced me to the piano when I was four and had me up on stage singing with my dad and grandfather when I was eight. My dad introduced me to many different genres of music when I was young so that I could grow up appreciating all types of music. I’m extremely grateful for that. My family has always supported me and continues to do so – I’m very blessed to have the family I do.
WiMN: You received your Master of Music in Contemporary Performance at the Berklee College of Music – Valencia Campus in Spain. How did your experience studying abroad impact your education journey and artistry growth?
AC: Each and every single person at Berklee Valencia, whether it was a fellow student, a professor, or a member of the staff, had an impact on me. There were so many people with not only different musical backgrounds, but cultural backgrounds as well that infused together to create an incredible atmosphere. Everyone was a constant source of inspiration for one another. I was so fortunate to be surrounded by not only incredible musicians every day, but also incredible human beings.
WiMN: Which musicians do you look up to the most?
AC: I really admire Shania Twain. I think she is an incredible role model for women of all ages and she’s a great performer. I also admire Sara Bareilles. I think her songwriting is incredible – her lyrics are poignant, her melodies are catchy, and her harmonies are not always obvious, which I really appreciate.
WiMN: Your debut single “Sunday Shoes” received solid airplay across the country radio stations in Canada. Describe the feeling you got when you first heard your song play on air.
AC: I felt like a little kid who just learned how to ride a two-wheeler bike! I was so happy that I squealed! I taped it on my phone so I could remember the feeling.
WiMN: What’s your favorite track on Let’s Get Gone and why?
AC: They’re all my favorites! I love the message behind the title track, “Let’s Get Gone.” While I was writing it with my co-writer, Brian Donkers, I was feeling that need to break out of my everyday habits and try something new, or go somewhere I had never been before. I loved writing this song because that feeling came easy to both of us and the melody almost wrote itself – it was a lot of fun to experience that.
WiMN: Tell us something that most people don’t know about you!
AC: I love Latin dancing! A lot of my family and friends know that I like it, but they don’t realize that I actually can dance it pretty well for someone who has never been trained – salsa dancing in particular is my favorite!
WiMN: What can listeners expect to hear from your debut LP, due next year?
AC: I like to put a little bit of myself in each song that I write, which will not change with the debut LP. There will be some new co-writers on it, so naturally there will be some risk taking lyrically and musically, which I’m excited about. However, it will still be true to who I am as an artist.
WiMN: What are your plans for the rest of 2015 into 2016?
AC: There are a lot of exciting things happening over the next little while! My second single, “Let’s Get Gone,” was recently released to Canadian Country Radio and I am continuously promoting the EP by performing around Ontario. I’m honored to be performing at Steve Music Store Toronto’s “Country Day” in support of their “Steve Supports Country” campaign, and I’m also looking forward to performing at Indie Week in Toronto this October. I’ll be heading down to Nashville as well to do some songwriting for the new album, and planning a tour, which will be in 2016. I’m so grateful for where my journey has lead me so far, and I’m excited to see where it goes! - The Women's International Music Network
We got the pleasure of doing an #Interview with today's #CrazyTalented #FeatureArtist @alessiacmusic and now we're even more impressed!!! Check it out.
1. Your passion for Country Music began as a child when you saw Shania Twain in concert. Was it a certain song, the energy or something else that made you say "I have to do this"?
It was the entire atmosphere! I knew all the words to her songs and while I was singing along, I could feel the audience’s energy and remember thinking how exhilarating that must be! I knew that I wanted to be on stage performing and having people sing along to my songs.
2. At what age did you start performing at local fairs and festivals?
I started performing at eight years old. My grandfather was a singer and my dad played bass in his band. They would bring me up on stage with them at various festivals and fairs – I loved it!
3. You have a fantastic voice, near perfect actually, did you take singing lessons or are you self-taught?
Thank you! I started taking voice lessons at 8 years old. I also went to an arts high school where I was a vocal major, continued my studies at Western University where I earned a Bachelor of Music – Honors Specialization in Music
Education (Voice), and then followed my passion to Berklee College of Music – Valencia Campus where I earned my Master of Music in Contemporary Performance (Voice).
4. You've taken trips to Nashville for songwriting, who have you been able to write with thus far? What are some things you've learned by writing with different people?
I’ve had the pleasure of writing with so many talented songwriters! On my last trip to Nashville I had the honour to write with some of the writers at Big Tent. I’ve learned so much from each co-writer – it’s a lot of fun bouncing ideas off of each other. The most important thing I’ve learned is that everyone’s ego stays at the door – everyone understands that it’s not personal if someone’s idea doesn’t get used; we all want to do justice to the song.
5. Songwriting is a way to express feelings (good and bad), say the things you otherwise can't find words for, and to help you cope with a difficult time. Out of all the songs you've written, which has helped you the most?
The song that has helped me the most was a song I wrote while I was on the plane back from Valencia, Spain. I had just graduated from Berklee Valencia and was sad to leave the place that had taught me so much, and where I met such incredible people and friends. I was able to express how I was feeling and at the same time get excited about what was still to come.
6. We absolutely LOVE your song "Weight Of You"! Can you tell us the story behind that song?
Thank you! Like a lot of people, I was bullied as a kid. I grew up stronger because of it, but found that later in life it was happening again. Bullying comes in many forms, but at the end of the day the best thing to do is stand tall and walk away from what no longer serves you. So that’s what I did. I was talking with a friend of mine and we decided to write about it instead of letting it overcome me. Writing this song empowered me and gave me the strength I needed to walk away physically and mentally from the situation. I claimed back my life and refused to let other people dictate how I would live my life.
7. We can completely relate to your song "Sunday Shoes" take a chance, let loose, have fun, and hold your tongue! haha. How did this song come to be? And the video is amazing, takes the song to a whole new level. How did you come up with the idea for the video?
While I was writing the album, ‘Sunday Shoes’ was pitched to me by Beth Marie Anderson and Michael Behm – who both wrote the song. Once I heard it, I knew that I wanted to sing it because it was so relatable. I came up with the idea for the video with Render Media. I wanted something fun, fresh, and to “break the rules” a little bit, which is what we accomplished. We had so much fun on set that day, especially the scenes with the truck!
8. Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations? If you could perform with anyone in the world, who would you choose and what song(s) would you sing together?
My biggest musical influence is Shania Twain. I think she is an incredible role model for women of all ages and she’s a great performer. I also really admire Sara Bareilles. I think her songwriting is incredible – her lyrics are poignant, her melodies are catchy, and her harmonies are not always obvious which I think is great. Another musical influence of mine is Carrie Underwood. Her vocals and performance are always on point.
9. Who or what has been your inspiration, not just in music but also in life?
My parents have been my inspiration my entire life. They taught me patience, understanding, love, and to never give up on my dreams. They’ve been my biggest supporters since day one and continue to do so. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
10. You recently released an album, what can you tell us about it? How has the response been?
This album is a collection of songs that allowed me to express myself lyrically
and musically. I was able to write with multiple songwriters, which taught me a lot about myself as an artist. The response has been wonderful! It’s so great to hear and see that people are responding to your music in a positive way. ‘Sunday Shoe’s’ did well on Canadian country radio and my second single, ‘Let’s Get Gone’, released to radio a few weeks ago and is doing well!
11. When can we expect your next single to be released?
Since my second singe, ‘Let’s Get Gone’, recently released to radio, I’m aiming for early 2016 to release my next single.
12. You recently went to L.A., was it for music business or pleasure?
My trip to L.A. was mostly pleasure. I did meet with some people from the industry, however my main reason was to visit some friends that I met while I was at Berklee Valencia. It felt good to relax, sight see, and catch up with friends that I hadn’t seen in a long time. Also, California is beautiful so of course the trip was great! - Canada's Music
Country singer and songwriter Alessia Cohle (www.alessiacohle.com) was born and raised in Mississauga.
“I started playing the piano when I was four, which is what initially sparked my interest in music. When I was eight my grandfather, who performed Italian folk music throughout southern Ontario, would bring me up on stage to sing with him. From the first moment I knew I wanted to perform for my career.”
Cohle graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in music and a specialty in music education and vocal poerformance.
She was accepted to the inaugural class of Berklee College of Music’s Valencia Campus in Spain and graduated with a masters degree in music in contemporary performance.
On June 24, Cohle released her debut EP album, Let’s Get Gone. The first single released to Canadian country radio, “Sunday Shoes” received a tremendous response.
Cohle is currently touring, performing and promoting the album. “The best part is seeing people sing along to my songs and meeting fans after a show.”
Cohle invited Celebrity Spaces into her home.
Q: How would you describe your home in two words?
A: Bright and spacious.
Q: Tell us about your home.
A: My home is a house and is approximately 3,000 square-feet. I moved in when I was 13-years-old with my family. The best feature is that it backs on to the Credit River. I love it because I can go back there hiking with my dog Koby and walk along the river in the summer.
Q: What attracted you to this space?
A: My parents were attracted to this home because of the area — it was close to schools and the ravine feature was a bonus.
Q: Who shares this home?
A: I share it with my dad, my mom, and my brother when he comes home on weekends from university.
Q: How much time do you spend at home?
A: My parents joke that I use our home as a hotel — I’m only there to sleep and to eat because I’m hardly ever home. Besides performing and writing, I also teach music so I am always working.
Q: What is your favourite room and why?
A: The first is the music room in the basement. It’s where I can be creative, practice, and write. The second is my bedroom. It’s where I unwind and relax at the end of the day.
Q: How would you describe your decorating style?
A: I like bright colours and my favourite colour is pink so when I chose bedding and accessories for my rooms at both universities, it all had some pink in it. My bedroom at home is not as bold as my rooms in university were but it has orange as an accent colour that livens up the earth tones.
Q: What is your fondest memory in this home?
A: Since I’ve lived in this home for many years, there are so many fond memories!
Q: What’s the one item in this house you can’t live without?
A: I love the baby grand that we have in the living room — it was my mom’s. My laptop is also important because it connects my music with the world.
Q: Weekends at home, what are we most likely to find you doing?
A: I’m usually performing, but when I do have a day off, I like to take my dog for hikes as well as hang out with family and friends.
Q: If your walls could talk, what would they say?
A: I think every wall would say the same thing — I’m always singing. They would probably sing along with me since they’ve heard a lot of music throughout the years! - Toronto Sun
As one country icon embarked on her “Farewell Tour” at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre (Timmin’s native Shania Twain), another was just beginning down the street…Country music newcomer Alessia Cohle debut her new album “Let’s Get Gone” to a packed intimate saloon of music fans, media, music execs and friends+family.
Backed by a ‘rockin’ 5-piece live band, Alessia started her set appropriately enough with Shania’s “Man I Feel Like A Woman”, then onward to a song off her debut LP “My Exception“.
As a newcomer to contemporary country music, it was a relief (and equal epiphany) that Alessia & Bandmates commanded the stage like a well-honed veteran live act tearing into a blistering set of well-curated material.
Alessia’s new material from “Let’s Get Gone” blended perfectly into her set list, with first single “Sunday Shoes” and album title track “Let’s Get Gone” exhibiting ‘anthemic’ crowd sing-a-long chorus qualities that will sure to be crowd favourites in the near future.
The Album release party was also a perfect occasion to showcase Alessia’s work with the Autism Speaks Canada charity, in conjunction with Steve’s Music Store, a acoustic guitar was raffled off (the author disappointedly was approx. 10 tickets away from winning “darn it”) for the worthwhile cause.
Along with original material, Alessia’s covers of Bon Jovi’s “Who Says You Can’t Get Home” and Dave Letterman favourite Canadian Tom Cochrane’s (then Rascal Flat covered) “Life is a Highway” showed Alessia was more then confident to take ownership and make the material her own.
As she continues her rise into the country music stratosphere, it won’t be long before Alessia becomes a new addition to an exclusive group of one name musicians (like that singer from Timmins)… - BK on the Scene
“She’s gonna be big…” As one passerby gleefully announced…
As the face of Steve’s Music Toronto Inaugural “Steve’s Supports Country’ Campaign, Alessia Cohle played a (too brief) set for the crowded Saturday afternoon street passerby audience where many chose to stay and listen (*note: all city curb bylaws were upheld and compliant …**snicker**).
In support of her newly released debut single “Sunday Shoes” to country radio and a small preview of her debut album“Let’s Get Gone” (see below for details of her launch party June 24th — also sponsored by Steve’s Music Toronto and Boots and Bourbon Saloon).
With a LIVE broadcast from CIUT 89.5 FM and support from Canadian Cowboy Magazine, the stars are aligning for the talented songstress — it won’t be long before Alessia becomes a household name.
Not just gifted with a pretty voice, Alessia’s short pedigree already includes an Honours Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance from the University of Western Ontario and Master of Music in Contemporary Performance from the prestigious Berklee College of Music’s Valencia Campus in Spain. Among her young highlights, Alessia had the opportunity to perform alongside five-time Grammy award winner Victor Wooten.

MISSISSAUGA – Singer/songwriter Alessia Cohle, who recently released her breakthrough single, Sunday Shoes, from her six-song debut EP Let’s Get Gone kicked off her summer tour last weekend at Steve’s Music Store in Toronto.
Next up for the Mississauga native is a launch party for Let’s Get Gone on June 24 at Boots & Bourbon Saloon, also in Toronto.
“It’s a collection of songs that reflect my personality, allowing me to entirely expose my heart and soul. The lyrics in each song express a different message ranging from love, heartache, self- discovery and self-worth,” Cohle said. “These songs, both lyrically and melodically, have given me the opportunity to grow as a person and as an artist.”
Cohle’s life in music began at a very early age when she began playing piano and singing. Her passion for country music began after attending her first concert – Shania Twain’s Come On Over Tour – at age 8.
Soon she was performing at local fairs and festivals, as well as on stage with her singer grandfather and her bass-playing father.
Her musical journey continued with songwriting trips to Nashville where she honed her craft and deepened her love of country music.
Cohle’s desire to become an accomplished musician led her to Western University in London, where she graduated with an honours bachelor’s degree in music education and vocal performance. She was then accepted to the inaugural class of the prestigious Berklee College of Music’s Valencia campus in Spain, where she received a master’s degree in music.
“Working with 74 incredibly passionate students from 27 different countries was a non-stop source of inspiration,” she said.
Among her highlights there, she had the opportunity to perform alongside American bass player and five-time Grammy award-winner Victor Wooten.
Sunday Shoes hit country radio in April and is available on iTunes.
“The song is infectious and will make you want to sing along and muddy up those shoes,” Cohle said.
Other tracks on the EP are Here Comes the Summer, Chain It Up, Heart of Gold, My Exception and the title track, Let’s Get Gone.

Steve’s Music Toronto and its co-sponsor, Boots and Bourbon Saloon, have announced the launch of the Steve’s Supports Country campaign with the goal of supporting emerging Canadian country artists and the country music scene in and around Toronto. The artist chosen to kick off the campaign is Mississauga, ON native Alessia Cohle, who has just released her debut single, “Sunday Shoes,” to country radio, as well as her debut EP, Let’s Get Gone.
Cohle’s Ontario summer tour kicks off with a performance at Steve’s Music Toronto’s first Country Day Showcase on Saturday, June 6. The event will take place from 12-5 p.m. (performances begin at 3p.m.) at Steve’s Music’s flagship Queen Street West location. Alessia Cohle will be performing three songs and will share the stage with other up and coming artists of all genres, as Steve’s continues to support all artists and all genres of music. The inaugural festivities will include the official unveiling of “Steve’s Country Corner’ while displaying Canadian Cowboy Magazine in support of Steve’s Country Corner, all in conjunction with Dorrian Promotions.
“I’m so excited about this summer campaign. Steve’s Music Store wanted to acknowledge up and coming country artists because there’s really no place in the city for that to happen. Tomorrow we are unveiling the Steve’s Country Corner and there will be performances and other exciting things about this campaign that we’re going to announce after tomorrow kicks off,” Cohle tells CMT.
It was Cohle’s breakout single, “Sunday Shoes,” that really caught the organizers’ attention. Ruth Dorey at Dorrian Promotions says that while working on a project with singer-songwriter Stephen Lawrence last fall, he introduced her to country music tracker Andrea Morris of AMtoFM.com, Morris had brought Cohle to her attention and said she is the perfect singer-songwriter to launch the Steve’s Supports Country campaign. Dorey is also quick to give credit to Steve’s Music Kevin Parker for working with her to put together this campaign to help emerging songwriters and also thanks Mike Kirman “for seeing our vision on this project.”
“Ruth heard the song [‘Sunday Shoes’] and she said to me, ‘I knew that I wanted you and your voice to be on this project.’ I’m so thankful,” says Cohle.
Performances between 3-5 p.m. during ‘Steve’s Country Day’ on Saturday June 6th will be broadcast live on CIUT 89.5 FM. Cohle’s set will start at 3:05 p.m.
Cohle’s Let’s Get Gone EP release party, which is also sponsored by Steve’s Music, will be taking place at the Boots and Bourbon Saloon in Toronto on June 24th.

"Alessia Cohle is a unique and talented artist just hitting her stride as both a singer and songwriter. I recently had the pleasure of producing a recording featuring her performance of one of her original songs. She is a fast learner, and takes her responsibility to develop all aspects of her career very seriously. I have found her to be thoughtful and demanding of herself in studio as a recording artist, and that she is meticulous in the details of her song writing, paying particular attention to her lyric choices. While she is well rooted in the Country arena at the moment, there is great potential for her song writing in the Pop market as well, as was evident in the track I produced for her.
What is most impressive is that while she has a very high degree innate musicality and is an attractive onstage performer, she is not content with coasting on that talent alone, but rather is fully committed and engaged in improving every aspect of the already high standards of her writing and performing.
This accomplished young artist is one to watch in my opinion, and I fully expect to see an explosive growth in her profile over the next few years."
- Glenn Morley (Composer, Conductor, Music Director, and Music Producer in the Film and Television and Music Industries)
"Alessia is a wonderfully talented vocalist and songwriter. Her talent is matched only by her personality - she is a radiant performer, and has the ability to draw the very best in collaboration from those musicians and producers who are lucky enough to work with her. She is diligent, possesses a wonderful depth of character, and is simply charming from beginning to end."
- Mason Daring (Producer, Daring Records, Rounder Records, and Composer for 73 feature films)
"It was a pleasure to write with Alessia … she has a natural talent for singing, writing, and performing and is dedicated to pursuing her music career. With a recent trip to Nashville to write and learn more about the business, she is well on her way to becoming competitive on the Ontario Country music scene."
- Dave Woods (Radio Host and Songwriter)
"Alessia is a hard working, talented, and focused artist … she breathed authentic character in the performances and blew me away with her voice. She is a very deserving artist with incredible forward momentum."

Inspired by Tikko’s campaign to raise Autism Awareness, country music’s newest arrival Alessia Cohle creates “Make a Change” (the Tikko Song). Singer, songwriter and educator boasting two music Degrees; one from the University of Western Ontario and a Master’s Degree from Berklee College of Music Valencia, Campus. Alessia puts heart and soul into musically expressing “we all have dreams, we all have purpose; it’s the imperfections that make us perfect” when advocating for autism, change, and a brighter tomorrow for families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder”. - Tikko Travels
Years from now, perhaps when she’s an acclaimed performer, Alessia Cohle will look back fondly on 2012 as a watershed year in her career.
The 22-year-old singer, who grew up in Streetsville, graduated from Western University (formerly University of Western Ontario) in May with a bachelor’s degree in music education and was accepted by the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston to pursue her master’s.
That would be accomplishment — and thrill — enough, but Cohle won a place in the inaugural class at Berklee’s new campus in Spain.
The program has attracted 75 students from 29 countries to an avant-garde campus in Valencia, a city better known for its paella and beaches than its brass section, but one that’s home to 40,000 musicians and a strong symphonic band tradition.
When Cohle heard Berklee was offering a master’s in contemporary studio performance there, she jumped at the chance to apply, even though she realized it would mean traveling halfway around the world to follow her dream.
Berklee master’s students will study in the landmark Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, a ceramic-clad opera house built by the Gaudí-inspired Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Berklee spent $8 million to restructure a 3,600-square-metre annex adjoining the Palau and outfit it with state-of-the-art recording studios, production suites, rehearsal rooms and technical labs for film and video scoring.
Cohle was offered a place after submitting an application and doing a live audition via Skype. She left two weeks ago for Valencia, Spain's third-largest city, located on the Mediterranean Sea.
“It was really the only program geared toward what I want and love to do — perform,” she said. “I’m nervous, but very excited about it. I know it’s the best possible environment for me to master my music and learn as much as I can.”
Born into a musical family, Cohle has been singing from the young age of 8 and hasn’t stopped since. She was lead singer in her own band, The Renaissance Band, and performed in musical theatre productions such as Rent and Legally Blonde (at Western) and Cabaret and Grease (with Cawthra Park’s regional arts program). She was also a top Sony/BMG finalist, CNE Rising Star, and Mississauga Future Stars and Breakfast Television’s Anthem finalist. - The Mississauga News
MISSISSAUGA — Heading off to Europe for a year of backpacking and travel after graduation is a time-honoured tradition.
Alessia Cohle, 22, of Mississauga, put a different spin on that tradition last year when she headed to Spain as a member of the inaugural Masters program class at the Berklee College of Music.
She spent a year in Valencia getting her Master's degree in Contemporary Performance, honing her skills in recording and performing.
On July 15, she graduated and will soon be heading home to Mississauga.
So what did she learn in Spain?
"My favourite part of the MMus program at Berklee's new campus in Valencia is the people," said Cohle. "The synergy between us in the studio and on stage has been unlike anything I have ever experienced before, and I cannot imagine these people missing from my life. In an academic environment where we get to work with wonderful faculty members and 74 intensely passionate students from 27 different countries, incredible things constantly materialize. We are a non-stop source of inspiration for each other, always pulling each other along to new levels that push our boundaries and comfort zones. I think that is what makes Berklee Valencia so special. Everyone is so awe-inspiring and beautifully weird; you can't replace or get that anywhere else."
She'll be back in Mississauga any day to work with a producer who will help her put the finishing touches on her debut EP, Breaking the Silence. Then comes figuring out strategies for the EP's release and putting together an accompanying mini-tour to promote her music.
Performing is what she loves, but she is also considering setting up a small teaching studio in her home.
Both performing and teaching music have been front and centre in Cohle's life since her time at Cawthra Park Secondary School in the Regional Arts program where she specialized in vocals.
Before heading to Spain for her Masters degree, she earned a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Music Education (vocal). - The Mississauga News
Our #womancrushwednesday this week is singer/songwriter Alessia Cole. A Mississauga native, Alessia Cohle is a multitalented country singersongwriter, recording artist and performer who is currently making waves in Canada’s country music scene. Cohle began performing at the age of eight, and bolstered her talents with formal music education, receiving two Music degrees from the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Music from Berklee College of Music’s Valencia Campus in Spain. Cohle uses her talents to give back as well, regularly performing for fundraisers and benefits for various charitable causes. Beautiful, talented and a heart of gold? Can you blame us for crushing on Ms Cole? I think not. Take a read below and get her perspective on romance for yourself.
What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?
The first thing I notice about someone is their eyes, and then their smile. Not for their eye colour, but if their eyes are kind and match their smile.
Who would you want to have make the first move?
I would want the guy to make the first move. As outgoing as I am, I can get pretty shy when it comes to making the first move.
What is your ideal first date?
Going out somewhere in a chill and relaxed environment (like a live music venue to see a killer band), sharing a plate of nachos and having good conversation. There definitely needs to be good conversation that goes back and forth – I don’t want to feel like I’m the one carrying the entire conversation.
Describe your love life in one word.
Boring! I work, write, and perform so often that I don’t have much time to have a love life right now, so I live vicariously through my friends haha. But I’m definitely willing to make time for a guy I’m interested in.
Describe the best date you’ve ever been on.
It was when I was in Spain. He and I went for drinks and a bite to eat at this really cute restaurant. Afterward, we explored the city and ended up chatting in a park for a long time. We shared stories, laughed and ended up talking for hours before we realized the time.
