Bio
Curt and Linda performed regularly at such regional venues as the Eno Festival and the Carrboro Music Festival prior to the formation of After Thought. When Curt and Linda were asked to perform at Songs for Peace in Carrboro, NC in December, 2005, they recognized the perfect opportunity to pursue an idea they had been contemplating: Linda’s daughter, Lauren, then 17, was raised on the music of Doc Watson, Emmy Lou Harris, and Sheila Kay Adams and had a dynamic voice -- might Lauren have just the right sound for a new trio? After much thought and several practice sessions, Lauren stepped into the lead vocal slot and the new trio, After Thought, was born. Since that first performance, After Thought has been well-received at the Eno Festival, The Carousel Festival, the Carrboro Music Festival, the Sunset Rhythms Concert Series, Music in the Air at Fearrington Village and other musical venues.
After Thought’s weekly practice and recording sessions require quite a commitment by all three musicians. Lauren, is currently working on her PhD in Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations at UNCG and juggles her time studying and working; Curt works hard to balance the demands of his position with the Transportation Department of Orange County Schools with those of his family – his talented wife and two busy daughters; Linda, now retired from teaching English, helps her husband train competition bird dogs and run a shooting preserve in Virginia. Despite their various interests and responsibilities, Curt, Linda, and Lauren come together to share a love of intricate harmony. Their individual styles are influenced by the icons of their youth -- Judy Collins, Peter Paul and Mary, Allison Kraus, Emmy Lou Harris, John Gorka, David Wilcox, the Beatles, and many others, but their musical mission is to entertain their audiences with fresh, melodic interpretations of traditional and original tunes.
