I thought becoming famous would fix all my problems, not only that but I wanted my life story at 11 years old to be heard. I knew it was powerful enough to touch other people despite my age. - Aaron Salem
Multi-talented hip hop artist Aaron Salem, who often goes solely as ‘Salem’, has been creating a buzz locally in his hometown of Miami and his music is starting to make waves on the national and international scene for his creative sound and talented lyrics.
His star is on the rise as his drive and dedication push him upward.
People tune in and like what they're hearing when they listen to his song "Lost Reception" where he's singing or his latest "I Know" where he shows his lyrical skills and rap flow.
This easily puts him on the map as an Artist to Watch.
We had a chance to chat with Salem about his music, goals and his latest video for the single “I Know” which can be found on the album "Train Tracks" on ITunes.
“I wasn't even supposed to get on stage”
Describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before.
My music almost describes itself. Whatever feelings, emotions or scenarios that are happening in my life at that time tend to be reflected in my music.
If I'm going through a heartbreak, you will hear a love song. If I'm going through a complicated time in my life, you'll hear a story told. If I wanted to just make an upbeat song to vibe to, you'll get a song that you can vibe to all day but that will be the furthest from cliché…I rhymed without trying lol.
Basically, in any way, shape, or form you'll get the real me. My music is a reflection of myself and my thoughts so it would never be any other way.
I've learned to just be positive and patient but to keep being persistent as well.
What inspired you to pursue a music career?
When I was younger I was going through a lot of family drama which I still so happen to go through today. At that time (being 11 years old), I heard the one and only Eminem and I could do nothing but relate to his music and feel his pain and relate that to my life.
I decided to pick up a pen and see if I could jot some things down and rhyme some words and it so happen that I could. I thought becoming famous would fix all my problems, not only that but I wanted my life story at 11 years old to be heard. I knew it was powerful enough to touch other people despite my age.
Greatest career accomplishment to date?
Performing on Pitbull's stage in Miami at Calle Ocho Festival for about 5,000 people. I wasn't even supposed to get on stage.
I went backstage to meet some people including Pit. Unfortunately he couldn't make it but, then came across Mike who is Pitbull's manager. Mike is friends with my manager, Tricks.
They talked for 5 minutes and then Mike asked if I wanted 10 minutes on stage but I would have to go up right there and then. I obviously said “Yes” not even giving myself time to be nervous and then there I was, in front of 5,000 people.
Music takes me away from reality for a while and I love that
What has been your biggest challenge?
Overcoming being impatient and over thinking. Things might not always be going the way I want them to or as fast as I want them to and it can frustrate me.
But I've learned to just be positive and patient but to keep being persistent as well.
Who are your favorite artists?
Eminem, Drake, Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Big Sean and ASAP Rocky
What are your music career goals within the next 1 to 3 years?
To be where I've envisioned myself being. Arena tours, platinum albums, traveling, living on my own and way more.

Aaron Salem, the rapper, the singer, the inspiration. Aaron is Cuban/Canadian and was born & raised in Miami, FL. On December 12, 2013, Aaron signed to Heavy Management Worldwide. Since then, his music has been digitally distributed to all platforms such as VEVO, iTunes, Spotify, Tidal, etc. At his first Meet & Greet in Miami, FL, too many fans attended and it was shutdown due to over crowding! Having more than 10 music videos, a huge fan base, taking over social media, and having only 2 albums, he has reached international notoriety from North America & Canada, to Australia & Europe. His sister battled with drug addiction for 12 years before dying from an overdose on April 19, 2014. This gave Aaron more purpose to his writing and music by still keeping it gritty, but non-profane and drug free. His hit song “The Moment” has been directly accredited for saving a young fan’s life after she heard it while writing her suicide letter. Aaron quotes, “That type of success means everything”.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Miami, FL. Music was something that kind of found me as cliche as that sounds. I was going through a lot as a kid. My sister became a intensive drug addict when I was only 10. My cousin had then showed me an Eminem song, and from then on IÂ couldn’t help but relate to him. I wanted to see if I could pick up a pen and start writing some feelings down, and the rest is history.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
It wasn’t really hard. After all, its my real name lol. My dads brother was murdered before I was born, and his name was Aaron. So thats where I got it from.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Music going digital is great. It can be confusing and complicated at times, but overall its always accessible. I love it. And yeah I do. Sometimes through contest and other things like that. Sometimes I just wanna give my fans something free.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists some tips?
Have patience. Its going to take time to find your sound. Its also a lot more then just making music. Its branding yourself, having an image, getting your mind right, finding yourself, and just a long spiritual journey.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Yeah I have lol. Every artist has. And yeah its easy, just keep the show going, the more you beat yourself up about something you can’t reverse, the more you’re just hurting yourself.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Yeah I do. Ive slowed down being on the road for a bit so I can get back into studio. And yeah lol, but its just way to much to type. Come to a show and you’ll see for yourself.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
However Im feeling at that moment. Whether I’m in a good mood or bad, it kind of changes the feeling in the music. I start off by listening to the beat probably 50 times just spitting different ways to start the verse. I don’t say words when I start, I just mumble a flow. When I get the flow I start adding words to it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a Artist website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
I do. (www.AaronSalem.com). And pretty much every single platform there is. Youtube, VEVO, Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, iTunes, Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter, IG, etc..
Exposed Vocals: What is the message you want to relate to people with your music and why do you keep it clean?
I mean every song is different. But the ones that have the messages in them tend to show a side of my life that they don’t know about. Or something Ive been through. And just showing them I’m just like any one else. Showing that someone in my shoes can still relate and feel what people feel on a day to day basis. And I use to curse a lot in my music before i got signed to a management deal lol. I just saw that if I kept it clean, not only would I be different, but I can market myself to a wider target of audiences.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
I would probably travel the world. See things I’ve never seen. Go to different countries.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a management or marketing team? Â
I do. Im with Heavy Management Worldwide, and they have they’re own marketing team. Which is great by the way.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you and where can people buy your music?Â
My marketing team & I always find different avenues. Whether through online marketing, or through SEO companies. Â And my music is available everywhere. iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Etc..
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why? Â
I would love to do a show with Drake. He’s a big inspiration with all my music and helped me find my own sound. And Probably at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. I would love to perform beside him in my hometown.
Exposed Vocals: So, what' next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I have a lot coming up. Just stacking up songs to see which order I want to release them in. Get ready!!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren't making music, what would you be doing?
Damn, i don’t know lol. I’d probably want to study medicine and be a PA or something lol.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Yeah my first album was “Thank Me Later” from Drake. I was a huge fan of Eminem but I always just streamed his music. I was to young to actually go out and buy his albums. I thought having the physical thing in my hand was cool though. I felt official lol.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Its hard sometimes. It just comes with a lot of practice, meditation, patience, and self-control to be honest. Its all about finding the balance between work and fun.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2017?
The next big thing. - Exposed Vocals

SntMag: Where did you grow up?
I was Born & Raised in Miami, FL.
SntMag: What is your background?
I’m Cuban & Canadian.
SntMag: Have you performed around Miami?
Yeah I have. At the Sun Life Stadium, The War Memorial Auditorium, and Pitbull’s stage at Calle Ocho just to name a few.
SntMag: Musically, what are your biggest influences and who are your favorite artists?
My fans influence me the most. Just the fact that thousands have my songs on repeat pushes me to keep making great music. My top artists (not in order) are: Eminem, Drake, Kanye West, J. Cole, Justin Timberlake.
SntMag: The ladies want to know are you single?
I am lol. The real question is, are they?
SntMag: What makes you different from other artists?
This whole new wave of rap honestly is upsetting. Its the era of great producers and catchy hooks, but lyrics are not even important. I feel that besides from me actually spitting some dope lyrics and something you can understand, It all blends perfect on dope beats to. I spit things people can relate to.
SntMag: Who do want you collaborate with?
Drake, Kanye West, J. Cole, Justing Timberlake & Bieber, ASAP, Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd & Wayne.
SntMag: In what ways has your newest music changed from when you first started?
I dont curse anymore, but just all together everything has gotten more on point. The beats, The flow, The mixing and mastering, The content, The Music Videos, etc..
SntMag: What are the main inspirations for the lyrics you write?
Usually how I’m feeling at the moment. If I’m in a good mood I tend to write something hype. If I’m going through drama or reminiscing about something then it tends to be more heartfelt.
SntMag: What would be your dream venue in which to perform?
I mean besides from Madison Square Gardens of course, it would definitely be the American Airlines Arena in Miami. I would love to do a back-to-back show there! Also, the O2 Arena in London.
