Bad Citizen

Bad Citizen was spawned out of the desire to create a new take on the defining sounds that molded classic rock and roll. Having a longtime stint as a metal singer, Matt Southerland had been on the search for his next musical venture. After studying various soul and blues artists (James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters) and digging into the history and sounds of Led Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy, Matt was inspired to start a new project which would revisit the line between soul, blues and rock music. Southerland discovered Guitarist Frankie Figz ( J and the 9's) by of all things...a Craigslist ad! The two instantly meshed and within the first jam session Matt and Frankie had enough solid riffs to begin writing an EP. When it was time to record, Frankie brought in his bandmate from J and the 9's, drummer Steve Garcia ( also the trumpeter in The Shipwrecks ). Since Frankie and Steve both played together in J and the 9s, they had built a great jam chemistry which allowed recordings to go smoothly, even without much familiarity with the songs. Producer and musician Rob Farren (Isle of Rhodes) was called upon by Matt Southerland to be the man behind the mix. "Rob often throws in his creative suggestions and helps to make the best of the performance during our recording sessions" says Southerland. All of the bass parts ( except for "Dead of night") were written and recorded by Frankie Figz until Patrick Fischer (Last Parade/Sickwalt) stepped up to play bass. Patrick was a friend of Southerland and approached him about potentially playing, from the moment Patrick entered the room and started playing everyone knew that the missing link was finally found. Bad Citizen has released their debut EP "CITIZENS RISE" on July 15th 2015, and the band is ALWAYS ready to rock with you!
