Singer-songwriter-mixing engineer Babs The Genius is creating a pop fusion of alternative afrobeats, reminiscent of the late 2000’s afrobeats group “Mo’ hits” with a twist of Burna Boy. Being an instrumentalist for his local church in Lagos, Nigeria at the early age of 8, he developed an affinity for the arts and began to understand the powerful and spiritual nature of music. After moving to Toronto for university and experiencing life as a young African in the diaspora, Babs found his purpose in melodic therapy vis story telling and euphoric live performances. He gathers inspiration from everyday interactions and Pan-Africanist perspectives of the world, to create a sonic experience that is both relaxed and thought provoking.
In 2021, his debut EP “Palmwine Papi” made its way around the Toronto underground afrobeats scene with fan favorites like “Move to the beat” landing on multiple local and international Spotify playlists, his music is taking a solid spot in Toronto and beyond, with follow-up single “Get It 2day” being another fan favorite.
With 2022 bringing a whole new outlook on afrobeats and it’s influence in the world, Babs The Genius is set to make his sophomore EP “Summer Day Dreaming” another reason for the world to have its ears focused on the global Afrobeats movement.
