Bio
Atlanteans are a 2-piece rock and experimental band from Vancouver Canada
featuring John Brennan (acoustic/electronic drums) and Bryce Janssens
(guitar/synthesizer/voice/saxophone).
John Brennan continues in the tradition of brutal drummers such as Chris Corsano, Greg Saunier and Zach Hill. Brennan has toured extensively throughout Canada, Europe and Asia as a solo performer, as a member of numerous bands (Atlanteans, Eschatons) and as an improvising collaborator (William Hooker, Merzbow, Nate Wooley, DJ Olive, Wally Shoup and Drainolith). As well, Brennan curates the eclectic music concert series Destroy Vancouver.
Bryce Janssens is a psychedelic pop/rock writer/producer (Lord Beginner, Louise
Burns, Fine Options) and commercial composer from New York. He brings songwriter's sense of melody, cadence and lyricism along with a hoard of instruments (vocals processors, guitar, saxophone, synth...) to Atlanteans' improvised underpinnings.
Atlanteans' first self-titled, self-released EP (released 2014) draws on their collective experience as sound recordists, improvisers, producers and sonic trippers to create a diverse 23 minutes of subtle streams and raging torrents of noise, whiskey-house blu-es, jazz, electro and garbage rock.
The group’s 2nd EP, “Custer”, was released in May 2015 on the web-label, Panospria.
“Cluster” features 3 improvisations in 26 minutes, recorded live in one evening on one trip.
Atlanteans began playing live in early 2015 and, soon after, went on an 11 date Europe-an tour in May of that year. The group has performed around the Canadian west coast to growing audiences. They will return to Europe in May 2016 as well as Oct 2016. Atlanteans will be working to solidify dates throughout 2016 in New York, and east-coast USA and Canada.
Atlanteans will release their first full-length album "Fat Stacks" as a vinyl record and digital download in 2016. The album is a more composed, succinct undertaking and shows the groups growing maturity and coalescence.
