Bio
A mixed bag of multitalented individuals, resembling a jazz-fusion base, ArtFul Soul started off as an instrumental band, with band mates collectively and individually performing at places such as The Prudential Center, Radio City Music Hall, as well as Toads Place, composing music with individuals, such as, Jim Johnston from the WWE. Later on, the group leader, "Don Jay" decided to tag team along with some of his friends, who happened to be professional singers, thus creating ArtFul Soul.
Prior to the group being officially glued together, their music generated around gospel, and soul. While practicing one day, Don Jay formed an idea of making inspirational jazz music, and between bassist Lawrence White, Keyboardist Marquis Gould, and Producer/Composer Will Johnson Jr., who all gave the same response;
"Let's do it! We've got people to inspire!", the dream came alive.
"With an endless world of music, they decided to write some originals, and cover songs, with a jazz-fusion twist. Some songs soul, some songs funky, and then there's, "Etcetera"—featuring a mix of dance, rock, and soul— as well as the birthing of "Suddenly"—featuring a host of genres, in their own art.", says booking agent at Gorilla Music.
As a key ingredient, Don Jay, (Dontrell Johnson) has been songwriting for some years, as well as a 17 year pro musician. “It feels so good to connect with people, who you've watched grow, as well as having the opportunities to perform on legendary, nerve wrecking stages. We are truly blessed”, says Don.
