Bio
Hi, I'm Andrew Zap, a Brooklyn-based indie/soul musician and visual artist who was born and raised in a small town 25 miles north of NYC. Like so many artists, my work is, in its purest sense, my form of meditation. As a singer/songwriter, I've always believed that the more feeling and love I can put behind my music, the greater the chance a listener has of feeling that emotion, too. At the end of the day, I just feel lucky to have a strong, enduring passion for something I really enjoy doing. Singing, songwriting, and recording is when I'm happiest and most in the moment.
As the singer/songwriter for the soul/reggae band ZAP & THE NATURALS, in the course of playing many shows and festivals, I've shared the bill with amazing performers the past few years like SWEAR & SHAKE, DISPATCH, and G-LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE. I've also had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with truly talented people—DISPATCH's Chuck Fay mixed ZAP & THE NATURALS' 2013 release, HALF PAST THREE. Chuck, along with G-LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE's Jimmy Jazz, were guest musicians on HALF PAST THREE's BREAKOUT track, BRING THE SUN. This same track can be heard in Kathy Leichter's 2014 documentary, HERE ONE DAY.
I've recently returned back to Brooklyn from the LATE NIGHT/LO-FI TOUR where I played solo shows in 24 cities across the U.S., including performing as an opening act for reggae legend, LUCIANO, at CERVANTES MASTERPIECE BALLROOM in Denver, CO. Currently, I'm booking shows in Europe and the west coast of the U.S. for early 2015.
