Bio

Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Andrew Kahrs has never strayed from the soulful bends and warm twang of country and blues that sparked his teenage desire to pursue music. A decade and hundreds of songs later, a cross-country move to San Francisco in 2014 deepened the love and longing for his southern roots, and now; at age 27, a seasoned blend of blues, country, and bluegrass can be heard in Andrew's recorded music and at over 200 live performances a year.

Fascinated by music (in particular The Beatles and Everly Brothers) from a very early age, Andrew cites a good friend's death in an auto accident at age 16 as his primary inspiration to seriously commit to studying and playing music - in particular blues. Georgia natives The Allman Brothers Band and Otis Redding became obsessions as he began performing at jams and open mics in the Atlanta area, gathering valuable experience from local musicians along the way.

Andrew moved to musical-hotbed Athens, GA in 2008 to attend the University of Georgia. He became a regular blues performer at dive bars and indie venues that dot the city's musical landscape, and expanding musical interests inspired him to audition and apply to the University's classical conservatory - where he studied for one (yes, one) day. Upon realizing classical music was not his true calling, Andrew left the program to continue his music education outside the classroom. It was in Athens where Andrew recorded and released his first 2 EPs, Andrew Blue and Georgia.

True love and the lure of adventure uprooted Andrew in 2014, when he moved to San Francisco to join his girlfriend as she began graduate school out west. The move inspired a deeper love and appreciation for southern music - in particular country and bluegrass. Andrew was welcomed by the city and became a full-time musician performing covers in bars, clubs, and boats (Sunset Cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge) 5 nights a week.

His dream of professional musicianship fulfilled, Andrew has now set his sights on building a career based on his own, original music. His songs, which reflect on the wonders and challenges of love, social responsibility, and finding one's voice; follow blues/country traditions of musical simplicity and straightforward lyricism. A 2017 release, EP3, exemplifies these ideals with crisp production that offers a unique take on classic genres.
