Almost Awake

Almost Awake are an incredibly impressive new band – their sound is so well polished and musically on point that it feels as if they must have been playing together for a hell of a long time. Cloudwalker is a great introduction to their approach to creativity; an emotionally driven, multi-layered punk-pop track that brings with it a welcomed touch of nostalgia, as well as something decidedly fresh for music fans to embrace.

From a songwriting perspective, the lyrics arrive with genuine depth here, and the accompanying video works hard to feed further into that aura. The performances throughout do well in underlining the passion inherent in the song’s sentiment, particularly the leading voice – this is the touch of instant humanity that most listeners are initially drawn in by. In this case, it’s a naturally beautiful voice, powerful in a relevant way but not trying too hard and not resulting in something overly shouty or unhinged. It all just feels very real, which is rare in punk-pop or pop-rock these days.

Musically, the song’s set-up allows it to hit hard. The introduction is stunning, a simple guitar riff – well played, impressive early on, but simple and memorable regardless – and a thick drum-line loaded with anticipation. As the song progresses, everything seems perfectly in keeping with the gradual evolution. The verses lay out a delicate ambiance, within which the verses can really thrive. Then as the build-up to the hook starts to take shape, the intensity rises brilliantly, and those bigger moments surround you with almighty escapism. As stated, the vocal performance seems gorgeously natural, making this feel like an authentic and simultaneously exciting release that will hopefully pave the way for a lot more songs in the near future – not to mention numerous live shows. - Stereo Stickman

Formed in mid-2014, the Las Vegas, NV-based 5-piece alt-rock outfit known as, Almost Awake, may be young in age, but they are certainly not young in talent—as evidenced by the rapid-onset of success they’ve experienced in such a short tenure together. Some of this includes being chosen to represent the House of Blues Music Forward Foundation, as well as being selected for radio play by A.V.A. Live Radio, KGUP FM Emerge Radio, Extreme Radio X107.5, Women of Substance radio, and many others.

Ranging from just 18-20 years old, the band consists of Vick Liano (vocals, guitar), Grady Jones (guitar), Gabe Conover (drums), Addison Egelhoff (guitar), and Tommy Cochran (bass).

With influences the likes of Nirvana, Joe Satriani, Blink 182, From Indian Lakes, Phantogram, and many others, this ambitions young fivesome has previously recorded 2016’s Until Tomorrow, as well as 2017’s The Catacombs, all in preparation for their latest effort, the single, Cloudwalker.

I especially dig how the track opens to soft, ambient guitar notes set to rolling drums, which then give way to an utter explosion of metal-guitars and other spacey synth tones.

Liano’s vocals are strong and easily hold the intensity of her chosen genre in this testament to the fundamental confusions associated with modern-day young adulthood. Fans of pop-metal will love the track.

The Las Vegas-based band Almost Awake may be following in some rather famous footsteps as they create their Alternative Rock music, but it’s because of the influences from bands that came before them that the group’s music is so strong. The band’s members of Vick- Vocals, Guitar; Grady Jones- Lead Guitar; Gabe Conover- Drums; Addison Egelhoff- Rhythm Guitar and Tommy Cochran- Bass combine influences from bands such as Twenty One Pilots, Paramore, 30 Seconds to Mars and others to create their Alternative Rock music that has a strong Pop feel to it. Having already released one 15-song album entitled Until Tomorrow, the band is currently adding to their collection of music. Currently, the band is promoting their newest single called “Cloudwalker”. As the track begins, the listener can hear the Alternative/Pop combination that occurs in the band’s style. The track’s sound brings to several bands like Paramore, but mostly the track seems to contain a lot of influence from the group Evanescence. The track takes that combination and creates a sound that is easily radio-friendly. The lead guitar from Grady Jones starts the song off with a melody that contains a rather strong beauty to it. Soon, the rest of the band joins in and that beauty gets a boost of energy that draws from the band’s Alternative roots. The vocals from Vick contain the same type of beauty/strength as the rest of the song so that the vocals give the song as much energy as the rest of the band. The fact that the band is still rather young seems to not matter at all as their come across as being on par or better than anything from bands with much more experience under their belts. But with that youth comes the possibility that Almost Awake will have a bright future ahead of them. And speaking of bright future that future is almost ensured as the band has just been signed to Tommy Boy Records. So keep an eye out for this talented band of Almost Awake and enjoy their newest single of “Cloudwalker”.

Every now and then you come across a band that has a potential to be greater than what they seem to be. A band with a lot of talent , a lot of charisma , and a singer with a beauty that would make you tremble, Who am I referring to? I am referring to the Las Vegas based band , ALMOST AWAKE. This band is fronted by 16 year old, Vick Liano. her voice literally soothes your ears upon listening. Once the instruments are added in, it is a purely orgasmic feeling due to the awesome talent that these young musicians have.

Vick Liano

16 years old I’ve been playing music since I was in the womb. My parents are the CEO’s of the United States so they paid for all my voice lessons and songwriting classes and I have a giant house in Summerlin. I have 63 dogs and two pet kangaroos. I have a giant waterfall pool that flows straight through the state of California to the Pacific Ocean. I also own the pacific ocean. I have 13 closets and 2 shoe closets and I own 7 acoustic guitars, 8 electric guitars, 4 bass guitars, 9 keyboards, 12 drum-sets, 3 xylophones, 5 saxophones. and an oboe, and I have a recording studio in my 800 acre backyard. I’ve been home-schooled since pre-k, I’m an only child, and I basically run everything in my sight. I’m totally kidding- I’m actually kinda poor and I just really love to sing.

Been playing guitar since I was about eight; all I ever really wanted to do. Love Satriani, Gilbert, Hendrix, Santana. Got to hang and jam with Satch and Gilbert last year onstage. Definite highlight! Love all kinds of music but really love my band.

I love to play bass. My influences include Ean Evans, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten.

Addison Egelhoff

I play guitar.

Gabe Conover

Been playing drums for 3 years. Drum influences are Tony Royster Jr, Jeff Campitelli, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Thomas Pridgen. Band influences are Paramore, 30 Seconds to Mars, Switchfoot, Pvris, and the Foo Fighters. Glad to be surrounded by such a great group of people. Wouldn’t trade this band for anything.

Final Thoughts

After listening to the album over and over again, I began to think about how awesome it would have been if I was 16 years old and in an awesome band that got publicity through a site like ours. I would have loved an opportunity like this. That’s one of the main reasons I contacted these kids. I am a former Las Vegas Resident and I would have loved to get to see these kids perform and kickass on stage. I want these young musicians to keep pursuing their dreams and never take no for an answer. Their will be hard times and their will be awesome times, you are a band so stick together through the rough times and in the end will be an awesome experience in your life.
