Bio
Alison Marae is a Mexican American singer, international performer and songwriter. Her sound is inspired by early 20th century jazz music, crooners from the 1930’s and singer-songwriters of the 1970’s. Alison juxtaposes her gentle, contralto voice against her lively ukulele. She has performed around the world with her partner, musical collaborator and guitarist, Wil Forbis. Together they have graced stages in Paris, London, NYC, Hawaii, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, San Diego and fun little towns in between.
On her San Diego Award nominated debut record, My Heart Cant Take It, Alison pens four heartfelt originals along with two acoustic, vocal interpretations of early jazz classics. The album features musicians, Wil Forbis on guitar, Sky Ladd on piano (My Heart cant Take It), Harley Magsino on the upright bass, Brian DeMuelle on drums, and Don Shafer on the flugelhorn.
"Modern day music that harkens back to yesteryear, circa the 1920s through the late 1950s, jazzy as well as beautifully played and sung. Centered around Maraes close micd voice and ukulele...its Maraes voice that is the star attraction here. There is a melancholy air to the material here, with the title track in particular approaching torch song territory". Bart Mendoza/San Diego Troubador
