"AxJ (Alfred Nomad) Speaks On Racism In "Calm Down""

AxJ (Ay-Jay) is an artist, poet, and MC after his listeners’ heart. From Indianapolis, IN but currently located in Atlanta, GA, AxJ has released several projects and opened up for popular acts such as Big Boi, MGK, Trey Songz, and Waka Flaka. Rather than draw comparisons, he rather let his art speak for itself with his newest body of work titled The Light Bulb Moment.

Now, he releases a new track titled “Calm Down,” which addresses the sad reality of racism in the world today.

In his own words: “This song is me speaking my peace about it all. It’s not meant to be a popular song, but an honest statement knowing there are many of my peers that feel the same way. May this continue to motivate those wanting to take action and have the necessary conversations in order to bring about results of change for the better.” - Shirley Ju

"8 Minutes We Can’t Stop Listening To. Alfred Nomad Gifts Us with “A Lot On My Mind”"

As I wrap up 2018, I’m ending with a lot on my mind. The last 2 years of my life have brought so much change, challenge, and growth. From a new marriage, to organizing two festivals and an independent tour, to moving all the way across the country to the West Coast knowing only a handful of people. I’ve had to live, let go, start over, and build again. I’ve been puffed up and humbled even quicker. And this audio experience sums it all up in 8 minutes.

The interesting thing about this is that I wrote, and recorded this 1 year ago almost to the date in December 2017. I meant to release it before the end of the year then, but life, fear and time happened and it fell by the waist side. What gets me the most is how prophetic and relevant it still is. And I feel this is the perfect time to let it go.

Notice, I’m not calling this a song. It’s really not structured like one, and honestly was written more like a free journal entry for me. The track is “Dillalude #2” made by Robert Glasper. I love all of the switch-ups to classic tunes, and wanted to challenge myself to write to the whole thing. It just ended up being a way for me to let out a lot of my feelings, and basically give an overview of all the biggest moments in my life that past year, and where I wished to go from there.

This whole last couple years has been steps out on faith. The best way I can explain it in short is that if my life was a home; I had to let most of the rooms fall right in front of my eyes so that I could rebuild a stronger foundation to stand upon. And from that process of rebuilding I’ve learned more about myself, and what’s really most important. Not to be a pun, but like a nomad I left everything I knew for a decade and had to restart in most ways from scratch. Sometimes when we pull away from all the things familiar to us, and are only left with ourselves and the most essential things we can gain a new priceless perspective on what we truly needed or didn’t need in the first place. - LxVE Collective

"AXJ (Alfred Nomad) FINDS HIS WAY ON ’14 HOURS’ LP"

The Indianapolis native delivers his follow up to The Light Bulb Moment LP.

It’s been a couple of years since AxJ dropped an album. His The Light Bulb Moment was one of our top albums in 2015 and even lead us to name him one of our Sunday Spotlight artist.

After giving us his “SQUADGOALS” single at the top of the year, AxJ returns with a new album, 14 Hours. Coming in at 10 tracks AxJ taps Tracie Cieara, Mvstermind, Grey and A.P. for features. He continues his jazz fusion of hip-hop while delivering a personal story of growth and what it really means to be an independent artist on the road.

AxJ tells Da Den via text that “this is an album anyone can play on repeat and ride to all day. 14 Hours was conceived on a road trip to a big performance, and I believe it will only take me even more places from here.”

Stream 14 Hours below and be sure to catch AxJ on the road for his Nothing But Time Tour. - Str8outDaDen

"Alfred Nomad unapologetically name drops contemporary women of color on “My Muse”"

Alfred Nomad unapologetically highlights contemporary women of color in his new record My Muse. With the opening lines “Mona Lisa, but she’s dark…" Alfred makes a thoughtful statement. Said to have been inspired by the official portrait of former first lady Michelle Obama which was commissioned by Baltimore artist Amy Sherald in 2018. In his own words, "The act of one talented woman of color creating such an important work of art of another amazing woman of color motivated me to do the same, and highlight special contemporary women of color in this record My Muse. Although there are so many more women to name, for the sake of the record I believe I got the point across.” - My Way Magazine
