AlanMichael is a 25 year old rnb artist from Arlington, Virginia but now based in New York. He started writing music when he was just 12 years old, and has been releasing demos and covers on his blog and soundcloud since 2013.

His first official release premiered here on Carbon Copy is the very psychedelic and relaxed 5 track EP called ‘Honeymoon Motel’ produced by Matt Mathie (AKA Nastyjazz). AlanMichael contacted Nastyjazz when he stumbled across the vibey instrumentals on soundcloud. AlanMichael told Carbon Copy ‘I sat with them for a few days and I came across a picture of The Pink Motel in California, and thats where the whole idea for “Honeymoon Motel” came about and I went from there’.

The vocals were written and recorded over the space of two weeks in his girlfriends apartment. When we asked what music influenced his writing he said..

‘I wanted to put together something that would be perfect for the spring, I wanted it to have a very smooth and airy vibe to it, similar to how Janet Jackson’s “Janet” album sounds’
For any cunning Janet Jackson fans out there you might get a strong hint of that inspiration on the fourth ‘Midnight (Interlude)’ track. Other influences include Michael Jackson, Grace Jones, Brandy and Blood Orange (who he has had the pleasure of performing with).

Apart from being a great spring time soundtrack, the Honeymoon Motel EP is also a brilliant example of an independent artist having full control and direction over their music. AlanMichael is an independent artist from Arlington, VA. He caught our attention with his single "RM. 15" which is lifted from his debut EP Honeymoon Motel. The single is a dream-pop anthem that is so soft yet filled with a deeper meaning than what it might come off as on the surface. Easy to listen to, easy to dream to, the track will definitely give you the urge to close your eyes and escape to another place as he half-whispers the words in your ears.

I recorded the entire thing over the course of 2 weeks in my girlfriends closet at her apartment.

Releasing the visuals to glitchy electro-pop bop “Lavender”, it’s only right that the dreamy song gets some equally dreamy visuals. Taken from his 2017 record Entrancing, the vid is intercut with clips of AlanMichael talking about his life as an artist creating a stunning piece of work that acts more like an art piece than a music video.

It is surely a coincidence, but AlanMichael chose a particularly good day to release a visual that is intensely surreal. The rising singer with a voice of honeyed gold has delivered a video for “Lavender” that is at once mysterious, ethereal, and intensely personal. Watch it above.

“Lavender,” directed by Brendan Sweeney, is taken from AlanMichael’s debut EP ENTRANCING, released in October to wide acclaim. In addition to crafting a solid first release, he has notched more than a few stellar cosigns in his young career, counting everyone from Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes to D∆WN Richard to Brandy as collaborators over the past two years.

Since releasing his EP titled Entrancing last year, AlanMicheal has been on a visual mission. After already releasing videos for four of the seven tracks on the project, he’s back with a fifth for “Pull Up”.

After taking a look at the video for myself, it’s all that he described & more. The visual pans between choreographed African dance & solo shots of Alan grooving at his own pace. Beautiful black women and men are the highlight, with cameras zooming in to let us take a full glance at each of their faces.

Although AlanMicheal has shared spaces with some of the most powerful names in the music biz, he’s taking his time to build his own musical rep.
