The young homie on the rise, Ishdarr, is set to perform at the Wisconsin Room on UWM's campus (2200 E Kenwood Blvd) tomorrow night at 7:30pm. He'll be joined by Brett Young, Afro Intellect, Jungleboy, Offbrand and H.E.R. All of these groups have been putting in major amounts of work to push the Milwaukee scene forward so it will be dope to have them all share the stage. - Those Hip-Hop Guys

Afro Intellect: A Solid Team Has Your Best Interest In Mind

Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Afro Intellect: This all started my sophomore year of college. I was following my friend’s hip hop group and got influenced to pursue my own carrier in hip hop.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
I use Twitter, Facebook, and I just signed my first distribution deal with Real Digital Distribution. I also have a promotions team to help me out with guerrilla marketing

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
Just getting myself out there as an artist is one of the most challenging things to accomplish. In a place where everyone’s trying to sound the same, you have to more than different and more than creative. Me personally I looked at my skillset and used that to my advantage.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene’s just starting to get noticed all over the Midwest. People aren’t just saying look at the Chi, now they’re including Milwaukee and all of its power house artists. I love how connected it is and how people who are from there show love to all the other artists. No one’s really beefing with anyone, we’re all trying to come up.

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I feel like the future’s always changing and with new technology there’s always more ways to get out there and be more creative with your branding as an artist. I feel like hip hop’s evolving as an art from in general.

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Always keep grinding every last possible second. The point isn’t just to make it out there but to forge a team that’ll build you up and make sure that you can be comfortable out there. Don’t forget where you come from also, too many people get up and then don’t acknowledge the people who gave them there first.

What inspires you to write your next song?
Just going out into the world and just writing about what I see and experience. Life gives me the words to write down how I feel. Once I have that I can branch out to any flow type really, it’s all a matter of perspective.

What are the steps you take to make a song?
I write a lot and always change up my lyrics until I can feel myself in the song I’m about to make. Then I add my own story to the mix and that’s what sets off the song. I also try and look at the beat from a different angle and try to do things that haven’t been put together in that type of arrangement.

What do you think makes a great song?
A great song’s one that not only makes you listen intently but actually think about perspective. It pulls you in from the hook to the verses and takes hold of your soul. - Skilly

Today we have a premiere from one of the many underrated acts in Milwaukee hip hop, Afro Intellect. With a desire to do something different, and a collaboration from OffBrand, Ndiloma released the visuals for “Wisdom”, from the upcoming “Different Dialects” Mixtape. This next track comes to us from Afro Intellect artist Ndiloma Musa and it dropped as an introduction to his next mixtape “Different Dialects” which we will provide a link for in the near future. In his own verse, which we agree with, Ndiloma said this is that real ‘backpack’ style of rap, in which varied styles and lyrics always stem from in type of music so the full mixtape will be sure to impress if it follows in the same fashion as the intro he provided us with.
