Toronto-based power-rock quintet scored notice with an earlier cover of Foo Fighters’ “The Pretender” and follows with this slick as black ice power-slam. Affinity is driven fast and furious to a win at the finish line by Ashley Curtis’s Formula One vocals. She knows how to lead the lads and the lads know to let her lead.

“This Canadian band pushed the right buttons to get it right on their new single "Discord". The new song is a major face lift where singer Ashley Curtis nailed the melodies like a shark attacks its prey, the sound is bigger and the chorus feels like a given hit to me. Now I really look forward to the new album, do yourself a favor and head on over to their website and listen to this great modern rock track”.

In terms of definitions, you can take your pick, as both reveal perfect one-line descriptions of this talented 5-piece band called by that very name, Affinity. The inherent likeness they ALL have is for each other and the music they produce. Quite simply, this group is hard-rock at its best and they absolutely need to be heard. Not just by rock fans, but by music fans. Don’t believe me? Then consider it your loss.
Being at their live shows brings you back to the “connection” piece in the meaning of their band name. Their stage presence alone is pure energy and passion. Even some of the most successful bands could watch with envy and stand to use an injection of what they’ve got. Perhaps the most impressive part? The charisma is shared and spread among the group equally. Not only can you hear it, you can feel it. They work together tightly, like a rock version of Voltron.

That was a great set at The Hart House. Fronted by a sassy frontwoman with an entrancing stage presence, this five-piece charged through anthemic guitar-driven rock, accented by soaring melodies, supercharged riffs, and undeniable showmanship. Heavy, energetic, and ultra catchy. Keep to your musical vision.

Bio
Emerging Toronto rock band Affinity has debuted on some seriously solid ground.
Affinity demonstrates a fearlessness and passion for loud, edgy and
seriously contagious rock music. Made up of Ashley Curtis (lead
vocals), Mack Flynn (Bass/Keys/Synth/BG Vox), guitarists Al Walsh and
Chris Andersen and Jeremy Burton (drums), Affinity's dedicated and
rapidly growing posse of fans and not just because
Ashley randomly invites them to down shots with her in between songs -
are mesmerized by the bands incredibly tight, powerful and polished
performance. Heads nod effortlessly to Al and Chris' hard driving
guitars. Match that with Ashleys fiery range of emotion, Macks
listen-up harmonies, cool bass and killer keys, Jeremy's precision
drumming and relentless energy and all flow into one huge performance
that pays homage to the old days of rocknroll, where singers could
sing and players could play anywhere, anytime, not just in studio.
"We have a ton of musical influences, and this shows in our
song-writing. We love heavy rock riffs and soaring melodies, up-tempo
head banging songs, and those epic rock ballads. Lyrically the songs are
about all the stuff young adults go through: the fun stuff like
partying and drinking, the ups and downs of hookups, relationships,
friendship betrayals, figuring out the good and bad in the world and who
you are; you know - life. The best feeling is when someone writes me on
facebook and asks for the lyrics cause one of our songs really spoke
to them. That's why we do this!" Ash.
"We work really hard on
our live show and bring high energy to the stage. We want every single
person there to have an awesome time, so we will never-ever put on a
half-assed performance just because we're tired, in a bad slot,
whatever. Mack.
As if to back up Mack and Ashley's comments,
heres what an acclaimed Toronto-based music reviewer had to say about
Affinitys live show:
Fronted by a sassy female lead singer
with an entrancing stage presence, this five-piece charged through
anthemic guitar-driven rock, accented by soaring melodies, supercharged
riffs, and undeniable showmanship. Heavy, energetic, and ultra catchy.
Keep to your musical vision. - Lonely Vagabond, independent music

Keep to
their musical vision they have and it seems to be working (well) for
them. Over the past few year, Affinity has been extremely fortunate to share
the stage with the likes of INXS, Theory of a Deadman, Die Mannequin,
and the Tea Party to name a few. Affinity was also recently chosen
(October 2011) by Future Shop to headline at the St Marys
University/Future Shop Toss the Disc National Campus Challenge in
Halifax, NS.
When all is said.n.done, everything points to one
incredibly obvious fact - theyre the real deal. So, if youre obsessed
with rock, live for live gigs, have a wee bit (k a lot) of edge and
dont mind showing it, then heads up - Affinity is definitely a band
youre gonna wanna watch in 2014!!
