Panhandle Funk: Adam & The Testifiers
Aaron Irons / Published On January 22, 2020Share:
For the better part of a decade, Adam Hendley’s ever-evolving outfit, Urban Soul has been a staple on the Tallahassee music scene but when the group releases new music in the coming year, it will be under the Testifiers banner. I caught up with Adam to talk about his early musical years in Jones County, the unifying elements of George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, and what to expect when the Testifiers land at JBA on Saturday, January 25th. - Aaron Irons

Bio
Adam Hendley is a singer, drummer, and composer based out of Tallahassee, Florida. Throughout his high school and college years, Adam has strived to expose himself to different clinics throughout the country, where he has briefly worked with artists such as Joe Gransden, Kenyon Carter, Jim Snidero, Scotty Barnhart, Rodney Whitaker, Chris Crenshaw, David Sanchez, John Clayton, Maria Schneider, Nick Finzer, Donald Brown, and Steve Gilmore. During his time in Tallahassee, he has worked in bands such as Big Daddy & Red Hot Java, the Flip Flop Boys, the Bill Peterson Trio, DjaBudde, Fungle Junk, Rachel Hillman, C@$H & the Loudpack, Wolf & Witness, Taller Trees, Ecology, Katie Skene, the Brown Goose, Mind Medicine, Skyview, Jasper Smitty, Kat Hall, the Steve Gilmore Quartet, the award-winning Blues Factor Band, and his own project Urban Soul-- all with whom he's has opened for artists such as the Revivalists, the Nth Power, and KRS-1 and played festivals such as Pass-the-Goode, Suwannee Roots Revival, Orange Blossom Jamboree and many others. After 7 years of the band Adam Hendley's Urban Soul, the group of funksters decided it was time to say goodbye to the band and birth a new project. Urban Soul at this point is no longer your typical band like Led Zeppelin or Earth, Wind, and Fire. We're a collective of hidden talent and deep pocket that lies amongst the Florida panhandle. We've become more like the Funk Brothers, Wrecking Crew, Soulquarians if you will.
