5th Projekt is comprised of four incredibly gifted artists that have combined their talents and passion to form a band with not only a strong sound, but a strong message. - The Cannon (Guelph, Ontario)
The music is an electric time machine; sometimes forcing you to reminisce of your favourite rock artists of years passed and then flinging you forward into the face of music even twenty years from now. In all, V promises to offer something for every good music fan. - Guelph Echo
The new album features the band’s evolution in rock complexities and revolution in music and lyrics. - Burlington Post

There is no doubt among those present on Thursday night that 5th Projekt can be seen as one of Canada’s most exciting rising Indie bands. The performance at eBar simply showed how passionate this group is for their music, holding onto the focus of the audience throughout the whole set and commanding the stage. - The Cannon (Guelph, Ontario)

It ended too soon, but thankfully for fans, their unveiling at the El Mo suggests the very high ceiling of which 5th Projekt is capable, one that surprises and delights audiences and will continue to fill clubs around Ontario. - Lithium Magazine

Lyrically pleasant and well-crafted instrumentally, I give 5th Projekt two thumbs up. - Pink Mafia

Since commanding attention with their 2004 EP "DEMOn001," they've been featured in Canadian Musician Magazine, invited to last year's NXNE Music Festival, and designated Independent Artist of the Week on the CBC Radio program Definitely Not the Opera. If this is any indication as to where the band is headed, then their breathtaking debut Circadian, should definitely see them soaring even higher. Exploring themes of cycles and the human connection with nature is what this disc, which is divided into the cycle of the seasons, is all about. From the dreamy opening first track "In a Coma," you will be mesmerized by the luscious beauty of Tara Rice's vocals. Although you could call 5th Projekt prog rock, the variety in their music is evidence of their refusal to fit neatly into one genre. No two songs are the same, which makes it that much more pleasurable to listen to. "Glockenspiel" employs bells, while staggering drum beats give "Spiders" an edgier sound, and the strangely titled "tToDQ" is an instrumental aria. Another track that must be mentioned is "One to Throw Away," a dark and powerfully poetic piece about ecosystems.
-Charmaine Merchant - The Spill (Toronto, Canada)
They have a wonderful record called “Circadian”. They live in the spaces between “Kid A”-era, Radiohead, big-sounding bands like The Music and the trip-hoppy bands like Portishead. The album is called “Circadian”. The CD comes in a nice round metal box, too. Very classy. Give a listen to a song called “In A Coma”. - 102.1 THe EDGE ExploreMusic (January 27, 2010)
This album dropped late in the summer after a long genesis. 5th Projekt is a Toronto-based quartet formed in 2003 that describe themselves as a "cinematic rock band." You can hear their multitude of influences in each song; no two songs are alike. This album is one great kaleidoscopic orgy of sound. True to independent form, the band has added all sorts of experimentation. The four-piece band is in itself an orchestra with listed instruments going well beyond the guitar, bass and drums to include the "gna gna," a pint glass and field recordings.
Each song evokes a different theme. "In a Coma" and "Glockenspiel" bring to mind a hard and fast action movie with appropriate reverb, ethereal voices and solemnity all piled into one track. "Broken Like This" brings to mind a quirky art movie...
This is not music to play softly in the privacy of your own room. This is music to share. Loudly and from the rooftops.

[A] simple yet profoundly moving sound that is fluid, epic, haunting and memorable. If Portishead cleaned up their act a bit, they might sound like 5th Projekt...maybe. But 5th Projekt is truly in a class of their own, fusing genres on top of genres to make a sound that is easily listenable but instantly recognizable. Circadian is an extremely exciting offering on all fronts.

[A] band who clearly have the capability to evoke both euphoria and despair via their anthemic songs.

Montreal always seems to get the credit for having the latest and greatest in musical acts in Canada, and in some cases, rightfully so. This is an exception though. They come from areas all over Ontario, Etobicoke to Meaford, but the four members of 5th Projekt refer to themselves as a Toronto band.
They also call themselves a “cinematic rock band”; and with a rich, thick, highly layered sound one can definitely see where that classification comes from.
Opening track ‘In a Coma’ evolves quickly from a simple synthesizer note into a complex mesh of futuristic sounds. Sticking with the “cinematic” theme, it’s a fantastic epic rock song for, perhaps, a sci-fi action sequence.
The throttle slows down and speeds up intermittently from there; dropping to a mid-tempo rhythmic march in ‘Madness’, and leaving you in a satisfied, dreamlike state by the end credits in ‘Resistance’. All the while the listener is surrounded in a thick landscape of reverbed synths, dreamy guitars and tribal drums.
Vocalist Tara Rice’s haunting and ultra-smooth voice cuts down the middle and guides you along the way. Full of passion, strength, angst and sorrow, she’ll grab your attention and never let go. Before you know it you’ll be at the end of the CD skipping back to the beginning.
With CiRCADiAN, Toronto’s 5th Projekt have put up a very impressive effort: Artsy but smart and entertaining at the same time without being pretentious and too cool for the listener. With a killer lead singer and creative instrumentation, they definitely give anything coming out of Montreal today a run for its money.

Band's "cinematic sound" rocks the Albion
5th Projekt took the stage very shortly afterward, quickly launching into a tight and powerful set. From the chugging onslaught of "In A Coma" to the hypnotic "Spiders," the band captured the lush sound of their record surprisingly well and completely effortlessly (Rice in particular hit angelic high notes without so much as a wince). Despite all the virtuosity on display, no one musician stole the scene; the band's "cinematic" sound relies on combining the available textures into one cohesive wall of sound.

5th PROJEKT, "IN A COMA"
Inspired by Yevgeny Zamyatin's 1924 novel We, a precursor to such dystopian classics as Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty-Four, this haunting, relentlessly propulsive track could be an instrumental and it would still manage to articulate the essence of the lyrics: muffled panic, emotional numbness and an unvanquished longing for a better world.

4.5/5
The quartet of 5th Projekt has been in the consciousness of music fans in and around southern Ontario for so long, it’s hard to believe that this is their first LP. Their demo, Tales of Don Quixote, has made the rounds and it is a severely enjoyable disc, but Circadian fleshes everything out and creates a fuller, more complete sound. Like Don Quixote, the band blurs the lines between sounds and styles—sometimes folksy, sometimes electronic but always with a distinct signature that says “5th Projekt was here.” An album absolutely dizzying for its sheer versatility and ability to lead your ear to strange new places...

Their previous 5 albums have been featured on various CBC radio programs, and Top 30 college and university radio charts coast to coast in Canada. Their latest extended play, "Gamma-Wave Rhythm" was released in limited edition physical format on September 14th, 2013 marking 5th PROJEKT's 10th anniversary. After a short tour of eastern Canada in the autumn of 2013, songwriters Tara Rice (vox, guitars) and multi-instrumentalist Sködt McNalty started writing and recording a new full length album based upon their time on the Camino de Santiago. The band played several shows to test out the new material throughout 2014, including a 3 month residency at the Painted Lady in Toronto, where they curated the successful and psychedelic monthly series, Second Thursdays.
In 2015, the band continued to write and record for the new album, while Tara Rice embarked upon the alternative folk festival circuit supporting her latest release, "Panorama". On the spring solstice of 2016, 5thPROJEKT announced that they had finished recording a new 12 track album, "ULTREYA!". No release date has been set.
