"The Sounds of Nashville: Local teen to hold CD release party on Saturday"

A year ago, Tyler King never dreamed his music would take him to Nashville to play a showcase for Sony. Now, the 17-year-old high school student from Wann is releasing his first CD.

King will launch his CD, “You Complete Me,” at a CD release party from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at Hastings in Bartlesville.

King describes his music as “fresh-sounding modern country.”

The title track, “You Complete Me,” was written by King. He says “You Complete Me” was not written about any particular girl.

“I just sat down and wrote it,” he said. “Maybe it was about the future or something. I don’t know.”

Six of the other songs are original releases written by songwriters from Nashville.

King says he cannot wait to hold one of the CDs in his hands, “because this has been a long time coming.”

The journey to his first CD started a long time ago. King has always been interested in music, he said.

“I’ve sang since I could talk,” he said.

At age three, he was singing Tim McGraw songs, he said.

“I just picked up a guitar three years ago and started playing that, and that’s when it really started taking off,” King said.

King began playing at different venues in the area, such as Polly’s Place in Copan and the Southern Supper Club in South Coffeyville.

Then, in July 2008, two men, Larry Brockway and Rodney Lay, helped King make his dreams come true. They began working with him on his first CD.

They brought five musicians from Nashville down to Hall of Fame Recording Studios in Neodesha, Kan. They recorded the music with King and edited.

“Then they sent it to me, and I kinda lived with it for a while, and then I went back in a month later and recorded master vocals,” King said.

The CD was then mastered by Richard Dodd, who has mastered CDs for the Dixie Chicks and George Harrison.

Then, last summer, King was invited to Nashville to play a showcase for Renee Bell, the executive vice-president of the A & R department at Sony.

In a big rehearsal hall in Nashville, King, seven musicians and two background singers put together a set of six songs.

“They were just amazing,” King said.

King dreams of taking his music far, so for him, the CD release will be just the first step.

“Of course, my major goal for right now is to land a major label record deal,” King said.

Bio

Country music newcomer Tyler King has been making waves in the industry since the release of his debut album, "You Complete Me" in December 2009.
Tyler has grown up in a small town in northeast Oklahoma. His whole life has been filled with singing and music for as long as he can remember. At the age of four, Tyler can recall belting out Tim McGraw’s “It’s Your Love” for his family at home. “I would stand up, grab a remote or a pen for a makeshift microphone, and just start singing while my mom recorded me with the camcorder,” Tyler says. Ever since then, he has loved being in the spotlight. Any chance he had to sing for someone, he would take. Tyler largely credits where he is today to having a family that constantly made it a point to encourage him to keep singing and dream big.
When Tyler first met his soon-to-be producers in July 2008, he had no idea what was in store for him and his career. Larry Brockway and Rodney Lay both saw great promise and potential in the then fifteen-year-old singer. Larry and Rodney asked Tyler if he wrote his own songs. Tyler replied with an optimistic, “No, but I can try.” Less than a week later, Tyler came back to them with the song that would soon draw him some major attention, “You Complete Me.” The two were amazed at how quick Tyler had picked up songwriting. Tyler soon was on track to having his first record produced. From September 2008 to February 2009, Tyler, alongside Larry, Rodney, and countless other people, worked on recording, editing, and mastering his record. Finally in mid-February, after many long days and sleepless nights, the record was complete.
Once the record was finished, Larry and Rodney took it to Nashville to play it for some of country music’s most influential people. Everyone they played it for liked what they heard. Two months later, they were told to bring Tyler to Nashville and have him perform in front of the executive vice-president of Sony Records’ A&R department. They began organizing the trip and on June 25th, Tyler and a group of some of Nashville’s best musicians played a six-song showcase in Nashville.
Currently, Tyler and his management are communicating with another major record company in Nashville while also waiting on word from Sony. In the meantime however, Tyler has begun generating a great following on MySpace and around his hometown area. He gets thousands of hits and plays on his profile every day. Tyler will continue working very hard to accomplish his goals and achieve his dreams.
