Tony Godsey Band

Tony Godsey's interest in music began at an early age. Being the son of a musician, he can also remember band practices at his childhood home and was always attracted to everything involved but did not begin playing music until his 5th grade year of school when he enlisted in the school concert bands percussion section. Tony continued playing percussion through his school age years and gives much respect and gratitude to the ones who taught him through school. He is a firm believer that most of his knowledge of music comes from these early years. It was not until his 8th grade year that he received his first guitar and began playing with a group of friends. A year later they enrolled in the schools annual band competition ( in which was the schools last year holding the event). The band Tony was a part of was the only band made up completely freshman students. Though an overwhelming crowd response from friends and family, the bands musically abilities were far from their dreams and they received last place in the event. Though the event had little effect on the career of the young musicians, it was the first time Tony realized what he wanted to do with his life. Tony continued playing and honing his skills though high school and started his first band with him upfront singing and playing guitar (Last Division). The band would last four years and have mild regional success release two EP's of original music in which can still be found on Purevolume.com today. At the end of Last Division Tony began exploring other avenues in life, always having a guitar and playing but not in a band situation. He went to college, received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and began the road to a normal existence. A beautiful wife came along and Tony moved on with his life. They moved to North Carolina for a brief time and returned to Northwest, OH to begin a family closer to home. Tony , looking for a hobby he enjoyed again after life began to settle, started playing with a local Country/ Classic rock band on the weekends. This is when he was bit by the music bug again at the age of 26. Tony was lucky enough to have the door of music opened back up to him and began furiously honing his guitar and vocal skills at this time. It was not until early 2013 that Tony decided it was time to go out on his own and play the music that was not only in his head but also to pay tribute to the artist's responsible for bring the joy of music back into his life again.Artist such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ top, and Eric Clapton spoke to Tony though their music. Tony would listen to SRV constantly dreaming of the day he could translate his message through his guitar they way these greats where able to. Tony, with no other musicians on the roster, enlisted the help of his father Dan Godsey to get the ball rolling. He knew a competent bass player was imperative to the style of music he wanted to play and knew his dad had the chops to get it done. Tony Godsey Band was born. Today Tony Godsey Band consists of local Northwest, OH Musicians from all walks of life. TGB can be seen playing out as a standard three blues rock band to recently up to 5 members including congas and keyboards. The current line-up includes Dan Godsey on bass, Ruben Arreguin on drum set, Marv Mt Castle on extra percussion and back-up vocals, and Brian Fendley on Keyboards and Organ.
