"The Wanderers: Meet Adam and Jake"

The wanderers: Meet Adam & Jake
What first drew you into music production?

I first started dabbling with music production Junior year of high school and I introduced Jake to production because of our friendship. We worked well together because of Jake’s background in music theory and my knowledge in production.

You are probably the best remix creators we have ever encountered on Soundcloud! And your dua lipa remix is one of our all time favorites. How do you know if a song is a good candidate for a remix? Also, what is your creative process like when making remixes?

To us, a good candidate for a remix is a song in which the vocals provoke emotion and bring your mind to a certain memory or feeling. When we go into making a remix we only use the vocals because to us that is a true Wanderer’s song rather than using bits and pieces of someone else’s production. Creatively, when making a remix we want to make it unique and sound completely different than the original, that way it’s fresh and surprising to the listener.

Your latest original shockwave on is another great example of how capable you are as a producer! The mixing is on point and the melodies/ideas are out of this world! Could you tell us more about your studio setup and your creative processes when crafting an original?

Our studio is pretty minimal: a pair of Yamaha HS7’s and a Mac. However, what makes our studio different is all the artwork. Being surrounded by art really inspires us to create music. The most iconic painting we have takes up a whole wall and we found it in an abandoned house. When starting a new song we focus on creating an emotional chord progression that reflects how we feel at the time of making it. Whether we are happy, angry, or sad, we want that song to reflect our feelings at the time.

Your signature sound reminds us of the sound of some of the greatest future bass producers in the world (slushii, san holo etc). How did you manage to achieve such a professional sound in such a short time? Can you tell us more about your musical background?

We are flattered to be compared to Slushii and San Holo, they are two of the many inspirations we have. We refined our sound by putting in an insane amount of hours each day and striving to make something better than the day before. Our musical background is Jake playing jazz and classical trumpet for 7 years.

Do you plan to release more remixes in the future?

We weren’t planning on producing any more remixes, but after the success of the Dua Lipa remix we will definitely be creating more in the future.

What are your goals for 2018? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?

In 2018 we really want to start playing live shows and make our sound be heard around the world. At the moment we don’t have any EP’s or albums planned, but there will be no shortage of singles in 2018 from us. This year we want people to embody our lifestyle and black and white aesthetic. We will be living by our favorite quote “Don’t whine about it, grind about it.” - HBT Magazine
