"Bodie 601 Band - Fortune's Calling"

The Bodie 601 band
4.0 out of 5 stars
By Matt Jensen

This an album that displays creative, technically proficient instrumental work and exceptional vocal harmonies. It’s the type of music that I find it hard not to appreciate in some way. On top of that the production is top notch. Overall, there isn’t much to complain about here. One thing to note is that this album has a mix of cover and original compositions.

They open with “Feast Tonight” which is one of the faster, more upbeat songs on the album. The banjo stuck out to me here but the vocal harmonies are simply lovely. It’s a great opener but certainly not the last great song on the album.

Up next is “The Hanging Tree” which is a cover that they absolutely crush. The overlapping vocal melodies are precise and seamless. Don’t miss the majestic sounding lead fiddle solo on “America’s Far Shore” or the serene and calming vocals on “It Can’t Be Far.” They do more than justice to Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and Led Zeppelin's “Nobody's Fault but Mine.” They close with the fast and fun “The Bodie 601” which I’m sure is what gets an audience moving in a live setting.

Musically, the band is simply fantastic. Rich harmonies and the delivery is just great. This is music your ears crave for. - No More Division Music Blog

Bio

Founded in 2014, the Bodie 601 Band combines Wailin Jennys style vocalism with Elephant Revival style energy engaging audiences with an exuberant and penetrating performance. The Bodie 601 has played quite a lot recently with festival appearances at the Millpond Music Festival and the Labor Day Festival of the Arts in Mammoth Lakes, Ca. The recent release of the band’s first album, “Fortune’s Calling” which Scott Roberts, frontman for the Sweetwater String Band, calls “amazing”, has propelled the band to the forefront of the music scene in the Eastern Sierras and displays the versatility, musicianship and united vision that makes The Bodie 601 Band a unique sound in the folk/americana genre.
