"SUN NECTAR’S SOUL-SEARCHING UPCOMING ALBUM [PREMIERE]"

Inspiration behind the upcoming album release from Sun Nectar, Sheep, Love and Metal Gloves, doesn’t exclusively lie in the boundaries of contemporary music. Brian Trahan, lead singer of the band, stresses the diversity of their influences, including Beethoven, The Beach Boys, Chopin and Stevie Wonder. Songs in their upcoming album synthesize these diverse musical techniques, while also incorporating methods from more modern works like those from Fiona Apple and Sufjan Stevens. Lyrically, Trahan derives his message from “the sheep like desire to fit into society” and other profound psychological territories.

A sample from their upcoming album, “Just an Echo” represents their claimed sources of inspiration. The track’s opening lyrics analyze self-seclusion, something that seems to unconsciously resurface on occasion. These relaxing vocals are framed by groovy undertones. “Just an Echo” incorporates several simultaneously layered sounds, shifting from pronounced instrumentals to rhythmic combinations of echoing voices. Though the single ends with the more conventional sounds of a violin and piano, it does incorporate other, less common instruments such as a Glockenspiel. Listen to the new single above, and be sure to keep your eyes on Sun Nectar! - The Wild Honey Pie

"Sun Nectar: Sheep Love & Metal Gloves"

NYC pop auteurs Sun Nectar have released their debut album Sheep Love & Metal Gloves. The first thing that jumps out at you on this release is the lushness of the tracks. This is supplied by a break from conventional band aesthetics, with this seven piece group including a full string quartet. Buoyed by synths, bass and drums, with strong vocals and stunning arrangements, Sun Nectar make music that rewrites the rules of what can be expected from the self-release idiom. Bio

The all-star lineup is Brian Trahan (Hockey, Farewell Republic)
writing and keys/vox/computer, Dave Scalia (A Great Big
World, White Rabbit) drums and pads, Christian Carpenter
(Ella Riot) bass, Rebekah Durham (San Fermin) violin, and
Tomoko Akaboshi, Laura Sacks, and Courtney Kaita strings.
Former students of Juilliard, University of Michigan, Indiana
University, NYU, and McGill, these people have their sh*t
figured out and want to dig deep for fun people in fun places.

Influences aren’t explicit in the music, but earlier influences
like Chopin, Beethoven, Tom Waits, Stevie Wonder, Beach
Boys, Jon Brion, and Fiona Apple lead to more modern
parallels with bands like Dirty Projectors, Y-Music, St. Vincent,
Sufjan Stevens, and Son Lux.

Their recent debut LP, Sheep Love & Metal Gloves, is
inspired by truths that affect all of us – the sheep-like desire to
fit in to a society with sharp edges and cold, hidden teeth, and
the paralysis it causes regarding our ability to change and
connect with our spirit and individuality, with a positive lift in
the unity of our desire for and experience of love. It wants to
catapult listeners from life’s well-traveled tracks (careers, life
pursuits, ideologies) to visit our spirits flying freely elsewhere,
and to inspire positive change.
