Stuck in the Basement

Stuck In The Basement is a duo consisting of Jonny Cliffe (Vocals/Guitar/Bass/Keys) and Christian Taylor (Drum/Vocals/Keys). We are an indie group that aims to incorporate inspiration from all genres, contemporary and retro. At our core, it would be fair to say we are a "rock group" but in many of the pieces of music we create we use instrumentation which would lend itself to pop or even hip hop and we try to work that into our sound.

In a music world filled with tons of extremely talented and creative individuals it is hard to create something truly new but that is exactly what we are trying to do every time we sit down to create a piece of music. Because of our various influences, many of the songs we write end up sounding quite different from each other but they are all definitively "Stuck in the Basement." What this means is that when we discover a new idea for a song we ask ourselves exactly how the concept is best fleshed out. If a song is best served with a raw rock sound we won't crowd it will tons of synths and samples. If a song needs tons and tons of layers we will use a collection of home recorded samples, synth patches, lead and rhythm electric guitar, acoustic, drums, bass, piano and other sounds to create a well thought out orchestration. 

For us, it's impossible to imagine coming up with an idea for a song and deciding not to do it simply because it doesn't line up with some specific brand.

We promise that whatever you hear is our complete and unadulterated passion. What is the point of creating art if you don't give yourself the freedom to make it however you want. We hope to bring you an adventurous and exciting discography that has something for everyone.
