"STEVEN H. SCOTT BREAKS THROUGH WITH “ALBINO ROAD”"

Steven H. Scott is breaking through the industry with his new single “Albino Road.” However, this is not his first time making music. Right out of high school he was in a progressive rock band called Salem, channeling artists like Rush and King Crimson. He played bass and provided the lead vocals. When that disbanded, he created a new progressive metal band in 2004 called Mindset X, which he is still part of and making music for. However, he always had another side to him.

“Albino Road” is based on a true story in North Andover, MA boasts an acoustically folksy sound reminiscent of Johnny Cash, with just a hint of jazz. He guides us through the tragic story of 2 young albino boys in the 1600’s that were drowned because they were different. He uses the acoustic guitar and the piano to show the sadness of the situation, saying “I envisioned a sort of story-telling campfire vibe where a lesson was supposed to be learned. But it wasn’t.”

The song starts with a burning match, a powerful symbol that tells the listener they are about to go on a journey. He repeats the same chords throughout the whole song to show us that, in fact, nothing has changed. He says “I’ve always loved poetry and the acoustic guitar so it made sense to venture down that path…This project was and is meant to be as naked, truthful and connecting as possible. There is something special about that simplicity.”

His lyrics are beyond powerful. They weigh on the listener, pointing the mirror right back on ourselves as he sings “How can we be so blind repeating the same shit all the time? And yet the world don’t seem to care, ignoring the ignorance we bear.” He is making us acknowledge the downside to our history, he forces us to see our naivety, our obliviousness, and our hypocritical nature as humans.

His poignant songwriting and soulful voice create a beautifully poetic piece, about that road where these two young innocent boys died. It’s a story that reflects all too well on where we are today. He tells us that we have work to do. “My only goal is to spark emotion for the listener. Whatever that may be.” - MODERN MYSTERY

"STEVEN H. SCOTT Comes Alive with “ALBINO ROAD”"

Steven H Scott is a New Hampshire based singer, songwriter and guitarist who writes, what he describes as, “folk-rock for dreamers.” His latest debut EP entitled “Albino Road” includes both an A and a B side. The A side is made up of Scott’s original compositions; the B side is the acoustic collection.

With soft piano notes and Steven’s characteristic intense vocals, the title track of the EP “Albino Road” is an altogether powerful track that tells the tale of two albino boys who drowned in the local town by their elders because of their strange looks.

“Burn the witches down, burn them straight into the ground. Like a haunted we play it over and over and over again.”

There is a theme of history repeating, of our ignorance as humans not ever learning from the mistakes of the past.

About “Albino Road”, Scott says:

“Albino Road was originally going to be just me and an acoustic guitar. However, after recording it I felt it needed something amazing. I sent the tune to my friend Jay and he added the amazing piano arrangement which brought the song to a whole new level. I adore how the guitar and piano whimsically play off each other. Recording it in my studio was a very fulfilling experience.”

Lilting piano scales, and guitar harmonies give us a bittersweet and haunting end to the song. Scott’s title track from this EP is sure to be followed by similar experiences on the full EP. - Indie-Music

"Steven H. Scott Reveals His Stunning New EP “Albino Road”"

Steven H. Scott is one of those artists that grabs you by his talent and gifted musical ability. His lyrics are poetic and deeply personal while his music is nothing less than soulful. You can hear the power music has over him in every one of his songs. He says “nothing is without a purpose” when it comes to writing music and when you listen to his new EP, Albino Road, it becomes clear that he wants his music to mean something more.

The first track, “Anywhere but Here,” is a passionate piece of music that embodies his own battles with fear and anxiety. With a hint of Johnny Cash, he sings “These sounds and creaks I can’t explain, and they stay inside my head, tucked away, slowly tearing me apart,” perfectly describing what it feels like to suffer from crippling anxiety. It’s relatable and sensitive, but tells us that the life we live is no one else's but our own. We have the power to change our lives and overcome our fears and anxieties, we don’t have to let them run our lives.

Similarly, the title track, “Albino Road” is just as meaningful. He calls for change in not only ourselves and our own thinking, but in others and society as a whole. It’s a cry for acceptance and peace within the world we live in. Based on a true story, he sings “They don’t look like you or me, let the truth be told on that old albino road, we sacrifice for normalcy.” His soul-filled voice leads us through this tragic story of two boys who were hung because they looked different than everyone else. It’s a call for an awakening, that we don’t have to keep repeating history, but we do.

The second track and last track, “Spaceman (John’s Song)” and “Sunshine On Me,” are a bit of a pivot from “Anywhere but Here” and “Albino Road,” musically speaking. With more of a Jason Mraz and Doughtry blend and folk music vibes, these songs are just as elevated in meaning. “Spaceman (John’s Song)” discusses death and the feelings Steven has for his friend. He sings “How do we make a mark on this world when we’re all just passing through.” He’s trying to figure out what life means and what we leave behind when we’re gone. As the listener, we are right there with him.

His last track, “Sunshine On Me,” is arguably the EP’s most necessary song. It’s about how we all interact with each other as people, how we should be better towards each other and stop being so selfish. He sings “We are obsessed with the blaming game, pointing the finger at anyone’s name. You gotta take a look within yourself, learn to let it go and redefine your wealth.” He doesn’t hold any punches, which is what makes this song so powerful. He demands that we all just take a step back and realize we are all in this together, that at some point you need to take responsibility for your actions.

It’s no question that Steven Scott is talented. Albino Road is just the latest example of what he can do. We hope to see more from him. His EP is out now and can be found on spotify. - Parent With Angst

"Steven H Scott Shares Albino Road"

Steven H Scott creates self-labeled “folk-rock for dreamers.” Based in New Hampshire, the talented vocalist and guitarist is set to release his debut EP, Albino Road. Albino Road is a twist on the classic EP; it will include an A-side and a B side. The A-side will be the original compositions, while the B side will take an acoustic approach, highlighting just Steven and his guitar.

“Albino Road” is the second release and title track off of the A-side of the EP and was inspired by a local legend of North Andover, MA, a town just 20 minutes from Steven’s birthplace. “Albino Road” tells the tale of two albino boys drowned by the town’s elders for their odd appearance — and how, according to Steven, “instead of learning from history, we are doomed to repeat it.”

“Ignoring the ignorance we bear, like a haunting we play it over and over and over and over again,” sings Steven as the track fades out. The lyrics cut deep, building in intensity throughout the track to create a dark thematic undertone — yet atop Steven’s raspy vocals lies a wealth of comforting instrumentation. Gentle piano and warm guitar carry the listener through the intense tale. Ultimately, the track’s sweeping emotion balance the darker undertones, making for a nuanced listening experience and a beautiful taste of what is to come off the full EP. - Subba-Cultcha

"Albino Road – Stephen H Scott ft. Jay Frigoletto (reviewed by Dave Franklin)"

Using a staccato and hesitant structure to draw the listener into this understated single is a clever device, and soon you find yourself wandering through a tense, emotive and gently anthemic (oxymoron? probably but you know what I mean) soundscape. One that has the pace and poignancy of a ballad but the power of a real stadium rock, fist in the air moment too.

Piano lines cascade through the horizontal spectrum, guitars subtly chop along the vertical, creating a broad but spacious platform upon which Scott slowly adds more sonic weight as the song runs its course. Space is slowly filled with resonant electric guitars and even more chiming piano charm but never enough to overbalance or overbear the song.

And then you get to the vocals. Not only are they impressive in their impact and delivery but the message is important too. Reaching back into history for the point of reference, Albino Road tells of the folk tale of the putting to death of two albino boys in the 17th century because of them being different to the norm.

Of course, the past is always seen as a less enlightened place when compared to the present, but are we not still using such differences to divide the human race rather than celebrating its diversity? Do we need reminding of our failings as a civilized society? Have we learned from the past? One quick look at the world around us today would suggest not.

Albino Road proves that music can be entertainment but it can be so much more besides. - Dancing About Architecture

Bio

Singer-songwriter Steven H Scott has always been about taking the backroads. His curiosity, sensitivity and hunger for adventure are traits that he carries with him as an artist. And it's all reflected in the music.

Growing up in a "kinda" small town in New Hampshire music was an escape from the everyday routine. He was never the tallest, the fastest or the most popular on the block. Like most introverts his childhood was dosed with anxiety and self doubt. But all of this created the building blocks for him to become the artist that he is today. With his combination of roots & blues mixed with a hint of classic rock and folk, Steven's music is filled with smooth vocals, acoustic instruments and personal storytelling lyrics that help the listener wind through various emotions. As he says "It's rock n' roll but a little hippie”.

“His willingness to put his personal experiences at the forefront of his songs, renders his music a form of comfort, enabling him to relate with his audience” - TheIndieSource.com

Also as the front man for the New England based rock band Mindset X Steven is the product of a beautiful blend of genres that we all know and love but with a modern twist. Never afraid to push the boundaries of the musical landscape he throws away his GPS and takes the backroads while hoping to get lost along the way.

Steven’s first EP - “Albino Road” was released on June 29th, 2021. It was well received by critics and reviewers and live music fans alike. The title track was derived from an old legend about two albino boys that were drowned by elders in a town located 20 minutes away from Steven’s hometown.
