"Night of Experimental Pop Songs"

“...Call it a homecoming: Reba Hasko, who will perform as part of this evening's "Night of Experimental Pop Songs," was born right here in the Capital Region. Sure, the singer-composer-pianist has moved on- to the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, to San Francisco, to her current home of Berlin, Germany- but we're proud to call her one of our own. Hasko's music is a mixed bag- on one track, she's part Gary Numan, part Siouxsie Sioux; on another she's a further-out-there Tori Amos. It's creative and challenging stuff- not for everyone, mind you, but highly recommended for those who prefer their pop sans bubblegum…” - Albany Metroland

"In German: Es ist New Mexico"

"...An almost ominous sense of suspense and mystery has always been a part of Hasko's shtick. From her early acoustic days with only a piano and her voice, Hasko has branched out to include synthesizer and a bevy of computer-generated bells, horns, strings and hollow overtones. Her classically trained voice slithers and climbs, sometimes panting, often cooing and usually brushed with vibrato. More often than not, Hasko slathers her songs in static... Hasko describes herself as shy, but on record and on stage, she's anything but. Her two LPs (2001's Live at Studio 43 and 2006's Seeds from the Twisted Pear) are blissfully avant-garde..." - Simon McCormack, The Alibi

"Musik & Bühne"

"Die Sängerin und Pianistin aus NYC nahm sich in Berlin Zeit, um an neuen musikalischen Ausdrucksformen zu feilen. So finden sich auf Haskos Zweitwerk "Seeds From the Twisted Pear" neben Beispielen ihrer Balladenkunst auch Dark-Wave- und Electro-Punk-Referenzen." - Tip Magazine

"Reba Hasko Album Update"

"Inventive in both composition and musically... an aurally fascinating album. Dark, beautiful, highly evocative, it even tops the power of her debut. It sweeps you away into a different emotional world... I just want to tell everyone to give it a listen. It's amazing..." - Ectophile's Guide to Good Music

"Praise for Delicate Cyclone"

"...Delicate Cyclone does it all alone... eight songs of magnetic and mysterious songwriting, where the voice, with its touches and its infinite expressive streams, is transformed into a veritable megaphone for the soul..." - OndaRock

"Praise for Delicate Cyclone"

"The eight tracks on 'Delicate Cyclone' are bathed in a mystical light... Hypnotic from beginning to end..." - Kultmucke

"NEW AVANT-GARDE MUSIC: REBA HASKO"

“...Today I heard a wonderful one-woman-band that has embraced the avant-garde and created magic. Reba Hasko ... creates ensembles of sound that pull you into a world of images and shapes, of colors and feeling. Sometimes you listen to her music and feel like you can reach out and touch it, almost taste it. Reba Hasko follows in very much the same vein as Grimes and Lykke Li, creating and producing all her own music, and just like her contemporaries, her music toes a fantastical line between the mechanical and the emotional. Using synths and effects masterfully, she mixes the artificial with her naturally brilliant voice to create music that is not only imbued with energy, but laced with sedative...” - Hypetree

"Praise for Live at Studio 43"

"A brilliant album... damn great piano pop..." - Derek Sivers, CDBaby

Bio

REBA HASKO is an American music artist living in Brookyn, NY.

After garnering overseas radio interest with her first live record, Hasko wrote, recorded and programmed the songs for her second album, during her three years in Berlin, Germany. Featured on NPR's 'Second Stage' "Seeds from the Twisted Pear" would later go on to be hailed among music lovers as 'blissfully avant-garde,' and nominated on Epinions Music Source for 'Best Album of the Year.'

From Berlin, she traveled to New Mexico and would collaborate in modern dance, dance film and installation. Notably, while writing songs for her most recent album, 'Delicate Cyclone,' she met Readymade Dance Theatre's principle dancer Jenny Hipscher. With Hasko's electronic soundscapes, and Hipscher's choreography for solo performance and dance choir, they performed a sold-out show at the VSA Art Center with "Obsessive/Compulsive: A Collaborative Disorder." This collection would spark seeds that would find a home on 'Delicate Cyclone.'

Released January 2013, Hasko's newest record was a departure from the electronic self-production and crystalline vocals that propelled 'Seeds from the Twisted Pear.' Now heard in the studio, handing over the reigns to Engineer/Producer Devin Greenwood (Sufjan Stevens, Steve Reich) at The Honeyjar in Brooklyn, NY, she had the ample space needed to speak directly from the inner animal - which at times can be heard as the archetypal wolf woman, one of New Mexico's mystic tales infusing the recent collection of songs. Berlin's Kultmucke says,"The eight tracks on "Delicate Cyclone" are bathed in a mystical light....Hypnotic from beginning to end... "

Since the release, she has created her first full length dance score for OnebyOne- a hybrid duet by Eva Perrotta and Corinne Cappelletti, interweaving ancient human ritual, and organic growth patterns found in the body, trees and animal behavior. In addition to vocal manipulation, organic matter such as bones, stone, and leaves were utilized percussively to create samples that were manipulated to create a springboard for the movement. Studying the effects music has on the brain, Hasko incorporated subbass frequencies aimed at increasing the well being and creativity of the audience. She also experimented with vocal techniques focusing on tones created by an awareness of the skull. The sonic range is vast, from "... blissful beehive chorale to metal feminist anthem..." the piece culminated in a sold-out live performance at Triskellion Arts in Brooklyn, NY on April 18th, 2014.

Since then she has written and recorded 'Through the Din of the Radio Comes the Light'- the closing music for The Agile Rascal Theatre's play "Sunlight on The Brink", and is currently contributing a collection of original hymns to Billy Joe Miller's installation "Chapel" (opening Feb 2016, New Mexico). Her third single for Kultmucke's 2015 Comp III will be released December 23rd on Soundcloud, as she continues to work toward a new EP release for Spring 2016.
