"Interview: Racyne Parker Discusses The Release Of Her New Single “I’ll Keep You”!"

Upcoming singer-songwriter Racyne Parker has been creating an impressive impact within the music industry with her vibrantly creative style, which combines a variety of musical genres, alongside her mesmerising songwriting talents.

Racyne has now released the fun & upbeat ear-catching single “I’ll Keep You” & has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest release.

Hey Racyne, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Racyne: Happy to! My name is Racyne Parker. I’m a singer-songwriter and performing & recording artist currently based out of the Denver, Colorado area. To date, my songs have lived within the country genres – a sound that has deep roots within me. I released my debut and sophomore singles early in 2019, followed by my debut EP, “Tumbleweed Town.” I followed those releases up with two more singles in the fall of 2020. It’s been such a fun few years so far, and there is so much more to come!

My upcoming singles and projects, including my most recently released single, heavily reflect influences outside of the country genre, so I’m excited to see what opportunities and new connections may arise from that!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Racyne: Born and raised in a small-town in Southern Oregon, I grew up riding horses, working cattle, playing sports, and listening to a lot of music. My dad, the lead singer and rhythm guitar player of The Lost River Band, would take me to band practice as a kid and I would fall asleep on the couch in the barn-turned-studio space to the sounds of country and rock covers and originals. Sometimes at his shows, I’d get to go up on stage and sing with him, maybe play the tambourine too, because I knew all of the songs in their set. I was just a little girl. His band has been together for over 20 years now. I’m fairly certain, looking back, that’s where it started for me.

Have you always known that a music career was something that you wanted to pursue?

Racyne: Yes… and no. I didn’t actually begin pursuing music as a career until my early 20’s. In fact, I was pretty sure I was headed to medical school after graduating from college with a degree in biology and anthropology. I took the entrance exams and went to work a job that I thought would validate my pursuit of becoming a doctor but instead only convinced me to pursue what really set my soul on fire, which I quickly confirmed was music. I always wanted to pursue music but I let fear get in the way.

I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember and I’ve been good enough with a guitar to get by, but it wasn’t until college and the years after that I thought I should take that creative outlet and turn it into something more. When I finally allowed myself to believe that I could make what once felt like a pipedream into a reality, I committed to a music career.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Racyne: Ever-evolving. Folks who listen to my early work on their favorite listening platforms will be sure that I am a country artist. Folks who come to my live shows will hear songs with country, singer-songwriter, folk, pop, and rock influences. I just want to write, record, and release songs that reflect how I felt at a certain time, and hopefully make you feel something to – sometimes, that means doing a little genre-bending. Though, I do think that there will always be nods to country music, no matter how far I stray.

You have just released the brand new single “I’ll Keep You”, which sounds amazing by the way. How did the idea to create this single come together?

Racyne: This entire song stemmed from a 10-second voice memo on my phone from 2018, as many songs do, that I recorded while sitting in the passenger seat, running errands with my guy. I wanted to write about the happy, easy aspects of love. Little things that can bring you joy and bigger things that keep you from getting in your own way were the main themes of the lyrics. I wanted the music to reflect that ease and fun, too.

What does the song personally mean to you?

Racyne: This song was written with my own experience in mind, based on my real relationship with my then-boyfriend, now fiancé. Because of that, it is reminiscent of a page out of my own diary.

The first real love song that I’ve released, I’ll Keep You really took on a playful pop vibe even before I knew that it would. It also might be my most ambitious vocal performance yet, and the growth that I’ve seen in myself through this song has been truly refreshing. It’s reinvigorated my sense that I am just getting started. From conception to production, this song has been a blast to create and I’m glad that it’s out in the world now!

If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Racyne: When you listen to this song, I want you to feel light and joyful – maybe catch yourself tapping a toe or swaying your head. Maybe you’ll find yourself reflecting on the people and passions in your life that you want to keep around (or that want to keep you). Whatever you take away from the song, know that I’m singing to you and am happy to get to share a few moments with you.

Do you have any further releases planned that you are able to share with us?

Racyne: I’ve got a new project coming up involving some of my absolute favorite musicians, but it’s too early to say much else about it. I guess I could say that the next project is a pretty significant departure from anything that I’ve done before. Sorry that I can’t say more, I’ll keep you posted though!

What are some of the things you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Racyne: I love this question! I really enjoy spending time with my guy and our big Pyrenees dog, Deets. They bring a lot of joy to my life. I also really enjoy cooking and baking – we make homemade pizza every Friday, and I’ll always bake you a birthday cake if you need one!

If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world, who would you choose & why?

Racyne: There are so many people that I would be humbled and honored to do a duet with… this is such a tough question. I’m afraid my answer wouldn’t surprise too many people, especially given her recent releases, but I (like many others) am a massive fan of Taylor Swift and would love to do a duet with her. Not only would I love to write and sing with her, but I think she would be super chill to hang out with. Mostly, I think that she has set a great example for artists like me who find themselves venturing in and beyond genres. That’s why I would love to do a duet with her!

What song do you always keep on your playlist & why?

Racyne: One of my favorite songs of all time is “Anything But Mine” by Kenny Chesney. Kenny was one of the first concerts that my parents ever took me to, and so I have some sentimentality associated with him. This song of his in particular has been part of the soundtrack to my entire life and so I put it on all of my playlists – I never get tired of it and am always excited when it randomly comes up on a playlist!

If you possess one superpower, what would you choose & why?

Racyne: I would absolutely choose teleportation. The convenience of instantly being somewhere else would be so beneficial – for touring, for visiting my family back in Oregon, for visiting you over in the U.K., for saving money on fuel or plane tickets…. The list goes on, teleportation is where it’s at for superpowers!

What advice would you offer someone who was looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Racyne: I would first suggest that they ask themselves why they make music. The music industry is full of obstacles – from rejection to people completely ignoring you – so artists should make sure that they have a purpose with their music beyond “getting famous.”

With a “why” in mind, get to studying. There are so many artists and creators who are finding success at any given moment. You aren’t the first to do this, so you’re not alone. Get involved with your local scene and emulate what you see others doing, while putting your own unique personality and flair to it. Read the books that have been written, listen to the podcasts, watch the how-to TikToks, and take to Google with your questions. As long as you are enjoying the process and feel that you have yet to reach your potential, keep grinding!

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Racyne: Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and about my music! I’m excited about any opportunity to connect further with you – you can find me on your favorite socials or at racyneparker.com (I’m pretty quick to respond to messages, so I’d love to hear from you).

Thank you for supporting artists like me – you are the reason we do what we do. Until then, wishing you all the best! - Fierce & Fabulous Revolution

"Premiere: Racyne Parker Releases New Single and Video "I'll Keep You""

Thank you for talking with us! What first sparked your love of music? Was there a particular song or record you remember?

Thank you for the opportunity to chat! I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories, from when I was about four or five years old, was sitting on my dad’s shoulders at a Chris Ledoux concert at the Klamath County Fair. Chris had these pyrotechnics going on on-stage - flames, fireworks, and some loud thunderous booms - that seemed at the time to be, larger-than-life and out of control. I remember, even though it was so long ago, thinking the whole stage was going to burn down!

I think I followed that musical memory up with my first Kenny Chesney concert when I was seven years old. Kenny had Montgomery Gentry and Jamie O’Neal open for him, and by the time Kenny made it onto the stage I had fallen asleep! I woke up to him singing “Young,” and he’s been one of my favorite artists ever since.

Oh! And you know that when Shania Twain released her Greatest Hits album, nine year-old me had the whole thing memorized and blasting on repeat in the CD player that my parents had bought for me the previous Christmas - "That Don't Impress Me Much" was probably where I honed my sass as a child - yep, I wore that CD out.

So yes, there’s always been a soundtrack to my life, mostly consisting of the tracks and artists that my parents loved, George Strait, Chris Ledoux, Garth Brooks and a whole bunch of rock from the 70s and 80s (Eagles, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Journey, 38 Special, REO Speedwagon, etc). There was always music playing in my homes, and I didn’t know any different!

I’m sure you won’t mind me saying that your new song "I'll Keep You," is just fantastic. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

Thank you, I’m so glad that you enjoy it! I think that “I’ll Keep You” is an easy, fun, bop-of-a-song that pulls you in and invites you into a moment of sunshine, summertime, smiles, and love. That’s why I think people will want to hear it – this year has certainly been heavy, and this song provides you with 3 minutes and 50 seconds of levity, lightness, and relief that I think we could all use right now.

Is this song an accurate reflection of what we can expect from your music going forward?

In some ways, yes, and in some ways, not quite. I think this song is an accurate reflection of who I am as an artist in that I write about personal experiences, to tell a story, or to elucidate the world around me. Along those same lines, that means that I love exploring different genres, styles, and vibes – whatever best captures the experience that I want a song to invoke. This song, for example, included some pop elements that I hadn’t explored before, and I think that the next projects will continue to embrace elements beyond country music that best capture the moment, feeling, or experience, that I’m trying to convey.

How did you come up with the idea for video?

For the “I’ll Keep You” music video, I really wanted to capture a youthful, exuberant, fun-in-the-sun energy. This song is a love song through-and-through, so capturing that giddy feeling of a young timeless love or a passion-come-to-life was really important to me.

So, we brainstormed some ideas that we thought would best convey that imagery- vintage, timeless, colorful, classic, and fun - while remaining vigilant of COVID protocols, and we came up with a few different scenes throughout the video that I think really capture that vibe and energy. This video shows me as my most authentic self yet, and I think fans, and potential fans, will really resonate with that.

What do you do when not performing or writing music?

I love this question! When I’m not out gigging, writing, or recording, you can find me spending time with my guy and our big Pyrenees dog, Deets. They bring a lot of joy to my life. I also really enjoy cooking and baking – we make homemade pizza every Friday, and I’ll always bake you a birthday cake if you need one!

I also recently relocated out to the Denver, CO area, but in years past I spent some seasons as a high school girls basketball coach back in Oregon – another one of my passions that I hope to get back to soon!

Have you always been a country music fan?

For as long as I can remember. Though, I would say that my music taste has expanded exponentially since the early days of Chris Ledoux and Shania, ha!

Heading into 2021, what do you consider to be the biggest challenges for independent country musicians?

From what I understand, one of the biggest challenges for independent artists, in general, could be an issue of supply and demand. Tragically, there seem to be a whole lot of venues that may not make it out from under the weight of the pandemic. With fewer venues and more and more artists (from big names to local acts) looking to perform live, there could be less opportunity to do just that. Not only that, but the venues that do push on and overcome may have less in their budgets for artists because of the hits that they’ve taken; thus, artists might be able to play, but they may not be able to fund their art, cost of living, gear, travel etc. as readily as maybe they once could. Of course, even before the pandemic, independent artists had to grind for a while to make ends meet, this year may just be bucklin' down on the grind a bit more.

Finally, what do you want fans to know most about you and your music?

I want you, as a fan or potential fan, to know that I really am looking to make genuine connections with you. Through music, through performance, through social media, through any means necessary, I want you to feel like you and I could hang out sometime and know that it would be a blast – who knows maybe we’ll get to do that sometime, post-pandemic!

My music is a means for me to process my own experiences, the world around me, the thoughts and stories spinning around in my head, and to share that with you. Maybe we are going through the same things, maybe we see the world in a similar way, maybe we’ve got new perspectives and ideas to swap, or maybe we just need to dance it out, but ultimately, it’s you and me and the community that we build together that make this, what once was a pipe dream, a reality.

I guess that’s what I want you to know most about me and the music.

Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about me, the “I’ll Keep You” song and video, and the music that I create!

"Music Video Premiere: Racyne Parker's "Fall Too Easy""

Musician Racyne Parker got her start as a singer-songwriter playing gigs at county fairs in her home state of Oregon; she released her first recordings in 2019. Itching to join a new music scene and tired of being in a long-distance relationship with her fiancé, who was in grad school in Colorado, she packed up and joined him in March of this year — just as the pandemic hit the state.

Now she's releasing a new music video for "Fall Too Easy," a country song about restlessness and the pains of long-distance love. The video was shot in August, from a safe social distance, by Chandler Bobbitt, owner of Madison Street Studios, at a private beach just outside of Brookings, Oregon.

The song, inspired by her own uncertainty about her relationship, pays homage to some of the characters from the music she listened to in her childhood, including the Allman Brothers Band's "Ramblin' Man" and Billy Joe and Bobby Sue from the Steve Miller Band's "Take the Money and Run."

"It’s the idea of somebody falling in love with you, but you’re leaving," she explains. "You’re on your way to the next town. It’s beautiful for a moment, but then it ends."

Parker says the vocals on the track are rough around the edges, but she likes it that way; the imperfections convey the raw emotions she felt while writing and recording the song.

Back in March, Parker was excited to move to Denver and start performing at venues and meeting people in the music scene. But, she says, the doors were shutting before she even arrived.

"As I [was] driving the U-Haul to move here, even the Starbucks was closed," she recalls. "Everything was closing that week."

While she hasn't been able to make waves — or even many friends — in the city's music scene yet, she's been focused on writing new music and shifting away from country and toward indie rock. She says she enjoys the feeling of being on stage and playing an upbeat rock song to a crowd.

As much as she loves writing ballads, Parker says, "There’s just something about being able to do both."

"Fall Too Easy" is out now on most streaming platforms. - Westword

"Racyne Parker Tumbleweed Town Review"

Racyne Parker was born and raised in Klamath Falls, OR, where she grew up riding horses, playing sports, and singing with her dad’s country/rock band. She wrote her first song when she was in the 4th grade (it was about her little sister) and has been writing songs ever since. College found the multi-talented Parker double-majored in biology and anthropology. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Willamette University in 2017. On the path to medical school, she focused on academics and graduated with honors. Parker was also a dual-sport athlete on the Willamette Women’s Basketball team and the Willamette Track and Field team. Though she committed her time to academics and athletics, she found herself constantly returning to music, performing in the Willamette Talent Show and breaking out her guitar around campfires. She could not shake the daydreams of becoming a singer/songwriter.

About the Album
While in college, Parker began writing songs inspired by the country sounds of her childhood mixed with indie/folk sounds of her favorite singers and songwriter. It was during this time that she began to truly believe in her music, and it was through those songs that abstract notions of pursuing her passion for singing and songwriting finally became realistic. After graduation, Parker recorded her first EP with SoundSmith Studios in Bend, OR, and started performing in Klamath Falls. Her debut single, “I’m a Mess” was released in January of 2019, followed by a sophomore single in June 2019. Parker is now releasing a five song EP titled, Tumbleweed Town. The five songs feature attractive melodies and lyrics that ring of a sincere songwriter writing about her own experience. Tumbleweed Town was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered at Soundsmith Studios.

Our Favorite Track
Our favorite track is “Down to the River.” The first thing that strikes you about Parker is her traditional country tone, combine that with her honest lyrics and girl next door appeal and she is gonna capture your country lovin’ heart. With a memorable guitar melody and relaxed racyne-parker-webacoustic strummed guitar, “Down to the River” has classic overtones that are beautiful. Parker’s singing is augmented by subtle vocal harmonies in the chorus. A tasteful guitar solo keeps the theme and mood going strong as Parker breaks down to just her voice and guitar, allowing the song to build again. The strings add to the rich production. The songwriting, singing and production are all classy, Parker sincerely sells the mood and lyrics.

In Conclusion
With a honky-tonk heart and a two-step in her soul. Parker’s sound is reminiscent of traces of Heather Myles, especially when she reaches for the lower notes. Parker writes interesting lyrics that talk about life, love and the pursuit of it even through the ups and downs. What was most refreshing of all is the organic classic sound. Its great to hear good songs in a true country format. At times Country music has stepped a bit too far into the pop zone, Parker is a welcomed change of pace. - Chalked Up Reviews

"Birddogs // unhappybirthday // Racyne Parker // Dead Little Penny // The Pierce Project"

Southern Oregon based country singer/songwriter RACYNE PARKER’s single ‘I’m A Mess’ is a promise of sorts. It’s the thought of looking at the small things in life that could matter more. Simple, well kept, edges with an indication of wariness, Racyne’s vocals tie her lyrics into drifts of wood, wandering down a creek in a summer’s late afternoon. She tells us that ‘if you are a mess…this one is for you’. The uplifting single of challenges and recognition for action, is the gift of the new track. Her upcoming debut EP ‘Tumbleweed Town’ drops soon. - COMEHEREFLOYD

Bio

Denver based singer-songwriter Racyne Parker draws inspiration from modern folk, country, pop, and indie influences, to deliver catchy lyrics, warm vocals, and a contemporary style that fits in well on playlists next to Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers, and Miranda Lambert. With a live set that samples originals and cover songs from a variety of genres, including country, folk, indie, and pop, Racyne Parker is a singer-songwriter who brings something for all audiences.

Racyne released her debut single, “I'm a Mess”, in January of 2019 and her sophomore single, “Tumbleweed Town” in June of 2019. Released in August of 2019, her debut EP Tumbleweed Town is a collection of five country songs that give a nod to the country sounds of her youth. Throughout 2019, Racyne could be found playing shows ranging from small solo-acoustic coffee shop gigs to larger full-band shows at bars and restaurants, folk festivals, and County Fairs.

In 2020, Racyne released an upbeat, groovy single, "Hindsight," which she followed up with a lyric video featuring her bandmates, producer, and foreshadowing for her upcoming releases. Racyne ended 2020 with a second single, a ballad called "Fall Too Easy," and an ethereal, dreamy Oregon Coast music video for the song.

Kicking off 2021 with live drums, a fresh bassline, easy guitar licks, an occasional synth, and pop-esque piano sprinkled in, her latest single, "I'll Keep You" is the first love song that Racyne has released. The live band sound, quick lyrics, and catchy chorus were essential to creating a fun and light track that feel sunny, bright, and optimistic.
