"Porch 40 to play Friday’s concert"

Performing the Friday, Aug. 23, Concert on the Creek in Bridge Park will be Porch 40, a Cullowhee-based band that began practicing together in March 2012.
Since that time the group has created new, original songs that are the framework of Porch 40’s sound. The band incorporates elements from older genres, such as Motown, jazz and funk and embellishes it with newer sounds such as rock, progressive, indie, metal, hip hop, and electronic music.
Band founders are Sylva native Drew Duncan (vocals, guitar) and Mitchell Metz (violin) from Chapel Hill, who met on a Western Carolina University study abroad semester in Wales. Upon returning to WCU, they added members Spencer Bradley from Sylva (drums); Scott Burr from Charlotte (saxophone) and Carter McDevitt, also from Charlotte (bass).
Porch 40 has played throughout Western North Carolina and has performed as far East as Raleigh, playing most recently at Asheville’s Bele Chere festival, above. From left are McDevitt, Burr, Bradley, Duncan and Metz. - The Sylva Herald

"Behind the scenes with Porch 40"

Soul Infusion Tea House and Bistro was packed when Porch 40 played on Saturday, May 4, but when it’s Porch 40 it’s always packed.
Porch 40, a funk/jazz/rock/energy band, has become a local favorite in the Sylva/Cullowhee area.
Andrew Duncan (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Scott Burr (vocals, saxophone, synthesizer), Mitchell Metz (vocals, violin, bass, guitar), Spencer Bradley (drums), Carter McDevitt (bass, guitar) and Brett Wilde (lead guitar) have been playing shows together since the summer of 2012.
After performing multiple times at house parties, No Name Sports Pub and Soul Infusion Tea House and Bistro, Porch 40's fan base exploded. The energy the band displays during their performances keeps fans on their toes no matter where they are performing.
“I have only missed a handful of shows and even when I am the only one still dancing, it is an absolute blast,” said Miles Olson.
The music scene in Cullowhee/Sylva has been growing even more since Porch 40 started playing. They, along with bands like PMA, Local, Total War and Pearly Peach, have made live music extremely popular in the area.
“Porch 40 is a talented group of musicians who have been an excellent addition to the Cullowhee music scene and I am excited to see what the future holds for them,” said Ren Dey.
Porch 40 plays on the weekends at bars, festivals and anywhere live music can be heard. Just say the name “Porch 40” and local music lovers will know exactly whom you are talking about. - The Western Carolina Journalist

Edgy? Sure. Funky? No doubt. Punkish? Maybe. Porch 40 has been tearing up stages for over two years, but it's still hard to describe their unique sound.

With their "grab your attention and won't let go" style, Porch 40's high energy sets quickly whip crowds into a frenzy. Combine that with their unequaled instrumentation, which include an electric violin and saxophonist, the band brings crowds a rejuvenating sound they won't find anywhere else.

While some bands are into gimmicks and image, this group of young, talented musicians have devoted their heart and soul into creating original music...and it shows every time they step on stage.

This January, Porch 40 will take part in legendary southern rockers The Marshall Tucker Band's winter tour...SPREAD IT HEAVY!!!
