"Pollock"

"The Moonlight Show" is their latest release and the result though far from a self-indulgent ego trip, rather a moving and elegiac artistic statement from start to finish. The 12 song line-up appeals to many listeners with a wide variety of musical styles - but it's one hell of a ride with a powerful voice for Rock n Rollers out there who have had enough of the musical status quo. My Favorite Title Track is probably "Devil." The strength of Pollock is the fact that every word out of Klein's mouth is for real. Why? Because they are for real. They no doubt live the life of a true vintage rock n' roll band and it comes out in their music. I would imagine in time we will hear more from this amazing band in the near future. - - Michael Rand, Music Emissions

"Pollock"

“Equal parts heartfelt emotion and soaring guitars, they paint images in creative, yet relatable ways. It’s evident to the ear that much time has been invested in crafting each song to stand on its own, separate from the next. The overall mix of this album is impressive. “The Moonlight Show” is a very impressive release by Pollock. It was an absolute pleasure to get into his mindset of these 5 and listen to. It will hold a place in my fascinating and dark play list – when I really need it. Pollock is a master at bringing together all the flavours of many different musical styles and genres. These 5 are armed with great writing, a brilliant creative mindset, and a kick ass live show from what I’ve read. Their music is highly original and will no doubt evolve over time into something truly groundbreaking. All of this makes Pollock a much welcomed and unique artist in an overly cut-and-paste industry. All of the above and more make Pollock worth checking out ASAP” - - Joshua Beach, Skope Magazine (Nov 19, 2013)

"Pollock"

“While many feel the music industry is in disarray right now it's always a breath of fresh air to hear a new and exciting band that's not afraid to let it all hang out and take chances with their music. With their latest musical offering: New York area 5 piece unit Pollock, it’s clear to me they have surpassed what I could consider the a-typical musical release from a band in 2013. From the beginning notes of Track 1: “Devil” through” to Track 12 ‘”IPSOS”, this band BLEW ME AWAY. Klein delivers a gifted vocal ability as he glides with precision through all pieces with amazing harmonies and a captivating vocal timber. Pollock goes beyond just good playing and world class progressive songwriting. Lyrics are also an important factor for me when listening to a band or artist. In this aspect I found them quite impressive as well as they paint you an impressive visual between the spoken word and mind numbing messages. Pollock personify the wild life experience.” - - Markus Druery, Indie Shark (Nov 01, 2013)

"Pollock"

“Let’s be honest for just a second shall we. I get a lot of albums sent my way for review and I mean a lot. Most of them don’t do anything for me. They don’t always get happily placed in the CD player, but the ones that do usually get a three song stay of execution and generally if they last past that they get my full unadulterated attention. Sometimes I’m hooked from the first track, and that’s precisely what happened when I put the latest release The Moonlight Show in my CD player by New York based band Pollock. The album bursts to life with the fantastic rocked out ”Devil” and follows through with a wonderful sequence of songs, twelve of them to be exact. It twists and turns the way great albums should with a little bit of rock, a little bit of high octane driven metal and a lot of harmonic goodness. " I am left bemused how they are not yet a household name."” - - Michael Rand, Indie Artist Alliance (Nov 19, 2013)

"Pollock"

“I always listen to the opening track extremely carefully. It’s the opening track the band or artists has selected to hit your ears first and foremost. The opening track “Devil” sets the stage rather well for a CD like this. It was a great intro piece that stuck in my head and had me eager for what lied ahead. All in all the whole CD is brilliantly delivered with a powerful Hard Progressive Rock textures with songs that at times can bite you and hit you hard with serious melodic staying power. Music will remind you of Tool, A Perfect Circle, Katatonia and Mastodon. To be honest I can’t say enough about this bands overall signature sound.” - Mindy McCall, Rock N Roll View (Nov 19, 2013)

"Pollock"

“The overall vocal style works extremely well with the confines of this progressive and dynamic rock catalog, the intensity and emotions are off the charts - my hats of to Klein. Rhythm section - lays down the low end groove thick as a brick. What I like most about Pollock is their sheer unpredictability note for note and song for song. By track 4 the CD hits solid stride dishing out many impressive songs in a row. Like a heavy weight boxer the impressive chops and amazing songs keep coming at you one after the other - with no sign of letting up. From mystic "Saudade" to melodic "Scarlet" to striking "Element" to rocking "8MM" to dynamic "Valentine" this CD has something for just about everyone. CD ends with Track 10 "Ipsos" the perfect finale statement for a CD like this.” - Cyrus Rhodes, INDIE MUSIC DIGEST (May 01, 2013)

"Pollock, Valentine"

Over the years we’ve seen rock & hard rock slowly erode into over-commercialized, corporate puppet shows providing music that is extremely sing songy, predictable, popish & highly corporate. I hereby call this new breed of music “Poser Rock” & I want to personally thank all the corporate giants for successfully transforming “Sex Drugs & Rock n Roll” into “Yoga, Vitamins, & Nikelback” Of course millions of musical lemmings don’t know the difference, but not everyone is amused. Talking to many music fans out there the response is overwhelming. Give me something new, something raw, something that’s pushes the envelope with a fresh sound that doesn’t sound like Nikelback, Daughtry or Lifehouse.

So across my desk slides the new CD by New York’s own Pollock. What I heard put a smile on my face. This latest CD entitled Valentine. It’s an adrenalin soaked EP that delivers solid songwriting with a hard hitting rock edge. Pollock reminds me of a modern day Perfect Circle, Tool & Chevelle but a bit more passionate & melodic. This latest EP is a polished sounding production from start to finish. If you like the above bands you should definitely check out this CD. CD is available on CD BABY & can be downloaded on I – Tunes.

Valentine by Pollock is a solid EP sampler with many hard rocking grooves with a heavy New York guitar driven sound that hits hard right between the eyes. It’s a record that gives us a fresh glimpse at a new artist & takes us back a few years – before everything started sounding like – well Nikelback. - Skope

"Pollock's "Valentine" cd review"

This is one 4 piece band from Buffalo, NY that brings to the table effective songwriting with a high-energy prog-driven delivery. This is Pollock’s latest release entitled “Valentine” released in 2010 & it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Band members include: Joshua Klein (Guitars, Vox), Mary Schnepf (Bass & Vox) Ryan Patrick (Guitar), & Michael Quigley (Drums). Venturing to their website (a professional presentation) I get the impression this band is also known for their powerful live performances around the New York area as well.

The opening track "New Machine” sets the stage rather well for this CD. It was a great intro piece which had me focused eagerly on what lied ahead. All in all the whole EP is a great teaser of sorts & a fascinating musical statement. Music reminded me a little of the usual suspects: Prefect Circle, Queens of the Stone Age, Audioslave & even Sevendust. There are some fantastic grooves on this CD which gives this band a modern Alternative Rock vibe that is dark & extremely captivating. Kudos goes out to Klein’s vocal presence which works well. The whole band just grooves together as a whole.

Bio

Hailing from Buffalo NY, Pollock is an ambient metal/hard rock band with intense rhythms and dynamic instrumentation, a unique blend of melodies that envelope the listener. When accompanied by their dynamic stage presence, the music is reminiscent of the bands namesake Jackson Pollock, and the idea of bringing an art form to life. Awash in a sea of cerebral percussion and emotional swells, Pollock continues to bring the heavy and huge sound that has become the band's trademark. The band combines sonic mass with intricate, driving verses which hook the intellect, then explode into lush, expansive choruses. The ever changing mood of the songs is enhanced by layers of strings and percussion; a unique sound that is simultaneously dark, uplifting, heavy, and like a dream.
