"Eight Songs to Close Out a Quiet Wednesday"

“The song has been compared to Tom Waits, Bonnie Prince Billy, or Steve Earle,” says the New York City trouabadour. “It’s a fable mixed with the blues and the frontier; where the heart goes before the head. Women don’t get to keep their ideal man, for all sorts of reasons; and most men don’t get to be the man and give up some aspect of their life. We all come out some ideal of love, whether it be a ricochet or a bullseye.” - Tinnitist

"DIY Discovery: Nat Myers"

MY REVIEW Nat Myers wasn’t made for these times. The Brooklyn-based singer-guitarist belongs to the era of itinerant folk-blues troubadours who rode the rails, busked on streetcorners behind an upturned fedora, raised hell on Saturday nights at the juke joint, and cut their songs straight to a lathe in tiny makeshift studios and died before their time. Of course, if he had lived back then, we might never have been lucky enough to hear The Possums in My Head, Hollywood Blues, Tomorrow Night and other unvarnished throwbacks on his debut full-length Songs (which comes out April 1 but can be heard almost in its entirety — and pre-ordered for the princely sum of $2 — at his Bandcamp page). So, all things considered, it’s probably better for all of us (and him) that he’s around these days. - Tinnitist

Bio

It’s hard to track down Nat Myers. He’s one of those young solitaires you hear before you see. His style’s homemade, unplugged. From the start he was drawn to the falsely believed to be forgotten styles. He found those who knew it, busking as a street performer before working into traditional venues. He plays to the dead, tapping the tradition passed down by those who tell him he has right to make something from it. He brings a new relevance to a rage of music that gets dusty before the old folks.  - Petunia Burch
