"Millennial, Jocelyn Ellis, Cairo Fire, and The Business People @ Visulite Theatre (8.15.14)"

I love going to live shows but figuring out who's coming to town and when and where isn't always easy. I've got into the habit of picking up Creative Loafing every Thursday and checking out different venue's website to compile a list of upcoming gigs but that can be irksome. Lucky for me, it was word-of-mouth that brought me out to Visulite Theatre last Friday night.

Little Bull Lee, Paper Tongues, The Avett Brothers, Paint Fumes and Junior Astronomers — that's about as far as my knowledge on local alternative bands go. I'm completely out of touch with a genre, that at one point, I so greatly identified with. The last warped tour I went to was in '08, i have yet to attend Afro-Punk, Lollapalooza, Governor's Ball or anything similar to them and it seems like people are rarely ever down for road trips to anywhere. I've been absorbed with Hip-Hop / Rap / whatever you want to call it for some time now and i believe that too much of anything is a bad thing, so a little genre swapping was needed. Below are four bands that I had the pleasure of seeing live! last week and want you to know about..

Millennial

Unfortunately, not much material was found when researching Rodney Eldridge and Logan Fincher, just a video of the two performing "This City". If i had one wish, it'd be for an audio recorder. why? For accuracy.

In between snapping pictures and taking notes, I miss out on important dialogue that occurs when introducing a track. Thanks! to Amy Aylward, I was able to retrieve the setlist:

Dreamers

Love talks

Symphony

This city

Don't go changing

Somehow

There were two mics in front of Rodney, one of which delayed his vocals and gave him an echoed / layered feel that worked out marvelously live, if you ask me. Their infectious melodies and heavy drum beats embodied those of their inspirations: Michael Jackson, Coldplay, The Killers, U2, Radiohead and OneRepublic. My favorite song of the night was their performance of "Somehow", which included the audience singing chorus. while they disassembled their equipment, I headed to the merch table and signed up to receive all things Millennial. You can be in the know as well by following them on facebook. - SativaSlcts

"Featured Artist"

“It came naturally, I’ve never thought of anything else,”says lead singer, Rodney Eldridge in response to asking what draws him to music. The statement could not be more true for these three musicians from Charlotte, NC. Growing up in music they have brought their talents together to form, Millennial.

All three members; Rodney Eldridge, Logan Fincher and Jon Hussey, grew up participating in their churches’ music programs. Logan and Jon joined a band in high school which led them to winning a record label talent competition at Anaheim Stadium in California. Through the band’s manager, they were introduced to legendary musician and producer, Randy Jackson who invited them to record in his personal studio. Randy aided in setting up opportunities for Logan and Jon to work with great producers and songwriters such as Brian West and Brody Brown. Working with such talent fueled the fire within for their music. They both split from the band not long after and pursued their careers separately always with the hope of working together again in the future. Insert Rodney who admired them both growing up. “They’re both such great players it was intimidating to approach them with the idea of Millennial but I was so excited when they agreed to be a part of this project” says Eldridge.

With influences such as Michael Jackson, Coldplay, The Killers, U2, Radiohead and OneRepublic their infectious melodies and heavy drum beats echo those of their inspirations. Having started their pursuit of a music career in their early to late teens at the young ages of 22, 23 and 24 Millennial has worked tiredlessly at their crafts. Their energetic stage presence captivates and engages their audiences. When questioned about what would be the biggest compliment they could receive from their listeners Logan responds “One of our fans telling us we inspired them to do what they love is all we could ever ask for. We’re in this to grow with our fans, not separately. We want them to be as much of a part of ‘Millennial’ as we are.” Jon adds, “We bring a different sound than what’s out there right now. We have our own style and sound to bring to the table and fans are really relating to it. It’s humbling to be a part of it all.”

Currently, Millennial can be found touring the US East Coast.
