Seven Days VT calls Michelle Sarah band “Soul food… with a sly, bring-the-party stage presence and impressive powerhouse pipes! Matchless!”

The Michelle Sarah Band is a soulful funk group out of Burlington, VT. The band is led by Canadian born singer/songwriter, Michelle Sarah, who comes with a colorful history of travel and adventure. Growing up in Guyana South America, in 1998 the States became the third country she called home. It was in 2012 that Michelle made her move out of Philadelphia to pursue putting this, her own project, together. “I had worked in so many studios, on so many tours, singing back-ups, arranging vocals for others albums; it was really due timing to focus on my own music. The decision really felt good, but I knew I was taking a pretty big chance on myself.”

In the years since her mover, Michelle has been seen on stages with acts like Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Govmt Mule), Billy Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead), Trombone Shorty, The New Mastersounds, and many many more; she’s made believers out of audiences at festivals like Bonnarroo, Jam Cruise, Bear Creek, Gathering of the Vibes, and in sets during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals, and more.

In the fall of 2015, the Michelle Sarah Band will release their debut album “For Today”. Their deep grooves marinate with riffing brass and powerhouse gospel-imbued vocals.  Featured on the album are musicians, Ira Friedman on keys, John Ryan on bass, Seth Eames on Guitar, Phil Carr on drums, Kevin Avery on trumpet, John Harrison on alt/ten sax, and Jessica Friedman on baritone sax. The compilation of ten original tunes, will see it’s supporting tour in the spring of 2016.

Fortified by it’s brassy embellishments and choir of backing vocals, “No Tomorrow” is set to be the groups first single. “It’s a reminder, to appreciate your today! Its an anthem to inspire change, and to provoke action, to live FOR TODAY” Michelle declares, “…and really, that’s the whole vibe in the name of our album.”

The Michelle Sarah Band highlights a refreshing New Orleans style breakdown in “My Everything”, and there’s the heavy rockin’ and drunk-with-fun “Let’s Let Love (Light Us On Fire)”. A couple of softer songs are present, “Ain’t No Crime”, the vulnerable vibe of missing home when you’re gone too long, and “This Love”, a groovy ballad of a confident love. The sassy funk that makes their final anthem, “I Will Be Here”, so catchy and a playfulness that turns “Double Wide” from a trailer into a sweet story told between organ swells, is just the beginning of what you can expect to love about their debut album.

The Michelle Sarah Band will have the supporting tour for “For Today” in the spring of 2016. “Music is so so powerful, it and can leave you skipping down a sidewalk or crying to your mom” explains Michelle. “We want to embrace those emotions, we love to make people happy, we love to make people dance and sing, but most of all, we love to make music!
