Matthew Gordon knows that the combination of words and music has been the highest form of communication since ancient times, from Homer through ancient religious hymns to Dylan and beyond. Whether drawing inspiration from the funk of Sly Stone or the bluegrass of the Stanley Brothers, Matthew assembles the elements in his original songs to make his subtle poetical points with maximum connection from his heart to each individual audience heart. His award-winning songwriting (Extreme Folk Society [XFS] Song of the Year, Every Cent Concert’s songwriting contest prize-winner) has received accolades and airplay from radio stations worldwide, while his sensitive yet funky dobro playing has brought him in great demand with multiple Philadelphia bands. He has appeared at The Philadelphia Folk Festival multiple times, and most recently emerged from the COVID19 pandemic quarantine with a well-received set for an audience of hundreds at Eagleview Towne Center with his electric band, Silvershade Scenery. With a heart in folk-grass and a soul in funk-rock, Matthew brings an original, creative and intimate spirit that will alternately move you to smile, think deeply, dance, and/or nod your head in recognition of an exposed feeling or vivid mental image.
