"Go Behind the Scenes of Manic Pixi's new music video"

NYC based Manic Pixi are putting the finishing touches on their brand new music video and their first under their new band name. The members are no stranger to the site as they've been featured numerous times with their brash and unadulterated style turning heads and electrifying ears in the process. Frontwoman Kat Hamilton displays an alluring presence both in music and on stage, guitarist Marshall Biever has an exemplorary skill set with amazing guitar abilities that allow the songs to have a mind of their own, while also allowing the group to branch out into different areas as well. And finally, drummer Emmett Ceglia is the melodic backbone of the group who can usually be found on stage galavanting behind the drum kit, while spending a great majority of his time shirtless that will definitely keep those eyes fixated on him just a little bit longer. The pic above from the video shoot will definitely get your heart rate going with a feast of skin and hot bods that will make your eyes pop, and also gives fans an idea of what to expect from it when it's released.

Stay tuned here to the site for updates on the release of the vid and upcoming album, and keep in touch with Manic Pixi on social media from Facebook here and on Twitter at this spot here. - Music Box Pete

"How to Choose a great bandname"

I am a firm believer that the name should always match the product. You wouldn’t call an avocado, pizza, would you? Naming all of the products at the grocery store nonsensical names would make for a confusing shopping experience. This is how I feel about great band names.

In Brooklyn, everyone is in a band. It is easy to get lost in the madness. But I am always surprised by all of the bands that have names that sound like they picked words out of a hat and jumbled them together.

I’ll meet people at shows and they will tell me,

“Oh this is my progressive metal fusion band, City Dogs in Paris”.

“City Dogs in Paris” conjures no image for me. I wouldn’t know this band was progressive metal fusion; I am dead inside. Above all, a band name should represent what the music sounds like.

When my band Manic Pixi, realized we had to change our name, we were brokenhearted. Not only because our previous name, Sugar Bomb, felt like ours, but because picking a band name is a bitch. We spent weeks making lists of possible names and I was a stressed mess the whole time. We made the process easier on ourselves by thinking of names that evoked the same feelings as Sugar Bomb; names that would give our audience an impression. Listening to our music over and over, finding that “vibe” that made our previous name awesome. This is my system to picking a name.

Have a band name that sounds like your band

In pop-punk, we have a lot of one and two word names that sound active. Like “Title Fight” “Blink 182” and “No Doubt.” These shorter, bursts of energy are said the way the music sounds. Alternatively if you’re a blues rock band, a name like “Hot Voodoo Devil” may be more appropriate since “Voodoo” is a longer vowel sound and thus sounds more like a blues than “Title Fight”.

Understand what is trendy in band names, so you can choose to stand out or ride the trend

Right now plural band names are big. “ChVrches”, “Hearts”, “Banks”, “Daughters” etc..Having a plural band name could be advantageous if your music falls in similar genres, but also it could be good to think outside of the box.

Don’t name your band something that no one can pronounce or is overly lengthy.

No matter what genre you are, naming your band “xvcjfoiingtally” will be a promotional nightmare. Same goes for “Big Tall Mystery Bus Kings on the Island of Evil Mice.”

Happy Hunting!

Love,

Kat Hamilton (of Manic Pixi)

Manic Pixi has a ballsy, genre bending sound all their own. They have been described as Hole mixed with Green Day, No Doubt, Letters to Cleo and Paramore. Manic Pixi was founded by Lead Singer, Kat Hamilton and Drummer, Emmett Ceglia. In December 2013 they released their first single, “Hangover” which garnared public acclaim and their second single “Kiss Me” March 2014. Their debut album entitled ‘Sugar Bomb’ is set for release in September and available for pre-order via bandcamp. Purchase a CD of their debut when it drops or buy concert tickets here.

“Kiss Me” is a sassy and guitar driven ode to cunnilingus. There aren’t many songs out there that discuss or illude to same sex intimacy and we are very proud to have written and recording a song that makes a statement. "Kiss Me!"

The only way I can describe the band Sugar Bomb! is if Blondie joined The Runaways and then they brought Katy Perry in as their lyricist. The rawness of the instruments and front woman Kat Hamilton’s vocals throw you right back to the original punk rock girl bands of the 80’s, but with lyrics that are more pop than grunge rock. Somehow, this odd combination balances perfectly, giving Sugar Bomb! an original but familiar sound. Originally formed in Boston by Hamilton and drummer Emmett Ceglia while at Berklee College of Music together, they now have a home base out of Brooklyn, NY and are crashing into the rock scene at full force. Fresh off a successful single release in December, they are following it up with their second single release and it is already causing
a stir.
As a band that is pretty in your face when it comes to their music, it is no surprise that this single would be any different. Written as an ode to cunnilingus, the song rightly named “Kiss Me,” isn’t in any way subtle about its subject matter. With a chorus that goes “Kiss me/ Yeah kiss me/ With your other mouth,” it is very clear that this is a song about the need to have this one girl right then and there. As we all know, the subject of sex is never too far from a songwriters mind, but not too many have touched on same sex intimacies. But even with the uncharted subject matter, there is never a point when listening that the song gets heavy and you feel the need to ponder its message. It is just a badass statement song that stays fun and sticks to the basic feeling of, “this girl is hot and I want her.” To be honest, the only thing I felt the need to ponder was how long was too long to have it on repeat.

With lyrics such as, “You wanna lean in baby/ I wanna lean in too/ You’ve never been this crazy/ I’ve never been this cool,” it seems as if it actually could be a fun pop song mixed with a peppy beat on the radio. Instead, Ceglia keeps that perfect, steady drumbeat while guitarist Marshall Beiver fantastically riffs over him, and Hamilton belts wonderful 80’s grunge vocals and screeches. It will change your image of “pop lyrics” forever.

Their self-titled album will be out soon and they have an upcoming show on April 3rdin Brooklyn alongside Tinvulva and Sulene. Be sure to check out their two singles that are now on Bandcamp and Soundcloud, and check out their website for more upcoming show dates. Sugar Bomb! is definitely breaking the mold and I don’t just tip my hat to them, I throw it in the air while I am head banging to this awesome fucking song. - Goodnight Magazine

Today, we sit down with Emmett Ceglia and Kat Hamilton, drummer and frontwoman respectively for the Boston based band called Sugar Bomb. The band is currently living in Brooklyn right now, but the members all attended Berklee College of Music where they got their schooling in how to properly master the musical art and properly articulate their musical message to the crowd, which has so far being received quite well. The two were nice enough to sit down and chat on how the band first got started, where they plan on going forward, and why Emmett loves taking off his shirt so much while up on stage. Here is the transcript from our little chat:

Give us your names and your positions in the band?

My name is Emmett Ceglia, and I am the drummer and co-founder of Sugar Bomb!. Moreover, I am equally Kat's right hand man and devil's advocate, constantly challenging what the band is and pushing the envelope. We're not really similar at all but that constant compromise between us makes us a tremendous duo; if Kat's the Sugar, then I am the Bomb!, exclamation point and all.

My name is Kat Hamilton, and I am the co-founder and front woman of Sugar Bomb! I also write the songs, although we have been co-writing a lot lately. Since the first album is about my life, I guess I would say I am also the center of the band. I am the pink pants behind the operation ;)

How did you guys meet and when did the band form?

Emmett: This band's history is insane. It has enough characters to cast its own broadway production, and so being Kat and I debate the exact timeline all the time, I won't involve too many precise dates.

She and I met at Berklee's Slam Poetry Club, and I truly found her annoying. Holy hell. However, after getting to know each other through the crucible that is Slam, we found we both had at least one common interest, Pop-Punk, and after that, Kat invited me to rehearse with a band she was apparently putting together. I was skeptical, but I bleed Pop-Punk so that reason alone was enough for me to give it a shot.
It was a bit of a train wreck. There were 6 people in that room, including a violin, and that day ended up being the only time we'd get together at all. And with that, I figured Sugar Bomb! was just another extinct experiment, a fun one with possibilities, but really not anything more.
An entire year went by until Kat approached me again about restarting this band. Thankfully, whatever we threw at the wall started sticking, and we had Sugar Bomb! 2.0 on our hands. We paired things down to just four members, and strung it together just tightly enough to put together an EP. Things started to wash out on us again pretty much right after I'd recorded my drum tracks, but at least we had something to shop around. The two of us were pretty lukewarm on the whole thing, but people actually liked it! Finally, we had some ground to run on and a direction to run in, and with that behind us, Sugar Bomb! was actually given the chance to grow into what we have now.

Kat: So, I approached him about being my drummer because, to be honest, he seemed like the first person who took me seriously. All I had were a couple of poorly drawn out lead sheets for Meteor Shower and Under Your Spell (which are both on our upcoming album) Also, at that time I had also had a reputation at Berklee for being a bit of a joke. I don’t think people thought I would end up actually graduating, so when I started recruiting people for the “Kat Hamilton Band”, I think they assumed it would be a massive fail. Funny enough, the first ever “Sugar Bomb! Rehearsal” was for all intensive purposes, a massive fail! We played with any person who said they would do it and I spend the majority of that rehearsal underprepared, frazzled with no direction. We stopped for a while until the beginning of 2012 or so when I asked Emmett to revisit the project. We recorded the E.P, which made me force myself book our first show in our school cafeteria. For as much as Emmett and I bicker like an old married couple, I will always respect him for jumping on board this crazy train. After the E.P it only became more apparent that this was not just the “Kat Hamilton Band”, but that Emmett and I were a team. Since, we have had endless lineup changes, but we consider Marshall Biever as well as Tom Shani, to be our core lineup. We still chat with those two all the time!

What is the origin of the name 'Sugar Bomb!' for your band?

Emmett: I don't know where it came from originally, somewhere deep in the sticky pink mess of Kat's brain I suppose. We debated the name for quite some time; however, it does sum up what we are the best without giving it all away or having some part of the female anatomy involved.

Kat: As I recall, I was having dinner with my mentor, Caroline, and our friends James and Sarah with the name first came up. Someone at the dinner called me a Sugar Bomb, referencing my intense and often abrasive, but sweet personality, and the name just lodged itself in the back of my mind.

At first the name, to me, represented the music. Sweet and sour, dark and positive, a Sugar Bomb! is the juxtaposition of opposing ideas. Just like Emmett and I, LOL. After he came in the picture, our dynamic was the Sugar Bomb.

Describe your sound to those who may not be too familiar with you guys?

Emmett: It's like the 80's, Nirvana, and Green Day all got together in a blender and had a chopped-up-body-fluids pool party.

Kat: I’d say it’s a little No Doubt, A little bit Runaways, and The Distillers “Coral Fang” had a huge impact on how I wanted the record to sound. Lots of girl power!

Who are some of your musical inspirations from a young age?

Emmett: It depends on how young we're talking, because that can of worms could include Kindergarten, and I'm not about to reveal Backstreet Boys in public...oh wait... My general approach to drumming comes from always wanting to be like my favorite drummer, Tre Cool of Green Day, who is also my favorite band. From there though, things get strange seeing as I'm really not a fan of radio-Pop music at all. Although, I did always dream of crashing the party and fucking shit up, so I guess that's what I'm doing here.

Kat: Stevie Nicks, was a big one. I used to put on a silk robe and twirl around my room to dreams. I also loved Bikini Kill, Green Day, The Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Nirvana also had a huge impact on me, especially Nevermind. I can be very old school!

How do your individual personalities contribute to the success of the band?

Emmett: Like I mentioned earlier, it's the fairly stark contrast between Kat and I that drives things along. In a musical sense, she's trying to make things more welcoming for the audience, and not that they don't matter, but I say fuck the audience, let's get as crazy as we can. The music benefits by being both listenable on surface level as well as a more detailed one: the audience gets to engage how they wish and we get to go ham and engage ourselves as musicians. Bottom line with Sugar Bomb!, everyone gets the chance to win.

Kat: Emmett and I are the definition of polar opposites, but it makes the band dynamic very intriguing. He’s Blunt, Opinionated, and very Hardcore. I’m sort of Dreamy, Hyper and I can be a bit of an airhead in a good way!
The music is a marriage of those qualities. I actually joke all the time about how Emmett is my platonic husband, since I don't really swing that way.
Many of our previous band members personalities color the music as well. Marshall is this kind, optimistic and jolly, ray of light. Tom was the master of funky and laid back. Joe, resembled a kid on a candy bender on stage. I'm really excited to see what how the new kids influence the music.

I also bring a lot of my pop influence to the table. The songs are all essentially pop songs, that we then fuck up with a sledgehammer.

Now Emmett, you have a reputation for being the shirtless one, how did that all start and how does performing without a shirt make you feel?

It's a reputation I enjoy! I do it because drumming, at the least the way I'm doing it, is an athletic event, and so I sweat quite a bit, usually until glistening. I've been taking it off since high school, so the better part of my career actually. A wet shirt is restricting, so I take it off and bam!, problem solved - I get to be the free flailing maniac I always imagine I am. Any other positive outcomes are purely icing on the cake, but I love them all the same because let's be honest with ourselves, cake without icing sucks, hard.

For fun, what do you guys like to do away from the stage, any fun activities/adventures?

Emmett: I enjoy fantasizing about changing the country as a future president, cooking, watching educational YouTube and anime, fantasizing about owing a hedgehog, kayaking, hugging, stand-up comedying, and supporting women's emotional needs.

Kat: My answer will probably sound like dating profile. I love to cook and drink beer, my brother and sister are both chefs so I hold little iron chef competitions, with myself. I’m obsessed with the television show, My so called life. I also love to exercise: Running, Dancing, Jumping, Prancing, Competitive Chatting. Otherwise I spend a lot of time panicking about the future, for fun.

What's coming up next for the band, any shows coming in the near future to the Boston area?

Emmett: Up next is our first show in six months, finally! We'll be playing at Arlene's Grocery onMarch 4th. We also have a new guitarist and bassist finally!! You'll all get to meet them very soon. They're adorable. Then our second single "Kiss Me" and it's subsequent music video will be arriving, so stay tuned for a four minute make out session. In April we're finally playing with our fellow Brooklyn Pop-Punk/Emo companions in Sulene.
Lastly, our debut album, "Sugar Bomb!," is due out before the summer FINALLY!!! There's quite a bit of "finally" with this band. That puppy's been on quite a journey, so we're excited (relieved really) to get it out into the world.
As far as Boston goes, I have no idea when we'll be back there. Hopefully before the year's out. It's where it all began, and we have so many friends still living there so what better excuse to go see them?

Kat: I’m hoping we will hold a CD release there. But we are trying to find a venue that will let us bring pie ;)

Lastly, what is the one thing you'd like everyone to know about your band?

Emmett: Trigger Warning: we've got a lot of feelings to share. We hope we can have mutually beneficial and consensual feelings intercourse with all of you.

Kat: That we love what we do, each other and you. And that you should come to our show at Arlenes Grocery. March 4th!

Thanks once again to Emmett and Kat for being so awesome and gracious with their time in doing this interview! They both have a clear artistic vision of where they want their music to go, and I could tell from first listen that they have the necessary components to make it, they just need to catch their big break which is not too far away. For more on their music, 'Like' them on Facebook here and follow them on Twitter here, and don't forget to catch their performance at Arlene's Grocery in NYC on March 4th if you live there or plan to make a road trip there. - MusicBoxPete

"Sugar Bomb "Hangover""

Sugar Bomb-“Hangover”

Sugar Bomb is an infectious pop-rock band from New York City. Seriously, listen to this song. It’s like the best of 80s pop-rock mixed with those catchy as hell early 2000s radio rock hits you couldn’t help but love. Or maybe a more apt comparison is Paramore at their most bombastic and not taking themselves too seriously. I dunno, whatever comparison works best for you, press play and enjoy. Vocalist Kat Hamilton is a force of nature, and combined with the fat power chord sound, makes for one of the better straight up fun songs I’ve heard in a while. It’s worth 3 minutes of your time.

The band has since rotated through many lineups, but acknowledges that their core is Kat and Emmett.
The songs themselves are the juxtaposition of opposing ideas. Sweet and Sour, Angry and Positive with a hint of lyrical comedy. The most memorable Sugar Bomb! image is that of Kat Hamilton’s shiny pink pants, which she dons at every show. She says “I only wear the pants onstage, they are what transforms me from Clark Kent into Superman, and every superhero needs some fucking spandex”.
Frontwoman Kat Hamilton Comments, “We are pumped to announce the release of our second single “Kiss Me” off of the upcoming Sugar Bomb! Album. “Kiss Me” is a sassy, guitar driven ode to cunnilingus. There aren’t many songs out there that discuss or allude to same sex intimacy and we are very proud to have written and recorded a song that makes a statement. We will be playing “Kiss Me” at Arlene’s Grocery, Tuesday March 4th. The song is a crowd favorite and we have a feeling that you’ll fall in love with the carnal groove. I love that “Kiss Me” takes a time honored sexy Rock N Roll sound and applies it to people, like myself, who identify as LGBT. We will be releasing the “Kiss Me” music video before summer, which will be filled with lots of kissing and pie. "10 songs to cry and eat pie to:from start of pie to finish"

It’s been a long day. It’s been the longest of fucking days. Maybe you are in a band, but working part time as a bartender and you are tired of drunk men calling you cupcake. Maybe you have a crazy nine to five as an assistant to the person whose job you actually want to have. Private lessons cancel on you, rehearsal space rent comes sooner than you imagine, and people shove you on the subway because you are a tiny bug on the windshield of their important lives.

On days like these, I like to have a good cry. Actually, I swear by a good sob, often with dessert in front of me. It is the cure for the occasional New York musician breakdowns. My band actually calls me the “Emotion Lord” because I have so many damn feelings. The truth is, struggling to chase my dream, watching others around me chase theirs, outfits me with a giant storm cloud over my head that I ignore until I throw my purse down in my Bushwick apartment.

This is the playlist for when you just need to cry it out, so you can get back to work like the baddass bitch you are. Grab a pie or sub in cake, ice cream, cupcakes and let’s get crackin.“Sometimes I Cry” – Eric Benet

This is your warm up song, stretch those tear ducts to the soulful seduction of the best Eric Benet song

“Please Please Please let me get what I want” The Smiths

If you don’t feel pangs of self-loathing that throb inside of your heart when you hear Morrissey croon “Haven’t had a dream in a long time…” you are not human.

“Youth” Daughter

Elena Tonra’s voice is a delicate rainfall of tears.

“Nothing Compares 2 You” Sinead O Conner

Too busy crying to spell the word “to”.

”The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot” Brand New

Use your pie fork as a lighter and gently sway it in the air.

”There, There” The Wonder Years

The lyrics to this song summarize every social anxiety I’ve ever had.

“Don’t Speak” No Doubt

Just shove the dessert into your mouth with your hands.

“Behind These Hazel Eyes” Kelly Clarkson

The anthemic melody and cliché heartbreak lyrics are perfect for self-indulgent bouts of despair.

“High and Dry” Radiohead

At this point, your “me time” is probably coming to a close. Reflect on your experience to some Radiohead. Rub your belly and say “I love you belly”

“The Sound of Settling” Death Cab for Cutie

Wipe those tears kid because you have made it through. Wiggle your legs to make sure you haven’t gone into shock from all that sugar.

”Hangover” Sugar Bomb!

For your Sugar Hangover.

"Manic pixi"

Manic Pixi hurtle through the room like bunting in a tornado as the quartet blow away the clouds to reveal a sunny overhead sky. Whilst bouncy and smiling the quartet are far from anodyne as they combine gruff rock riffs, wall testing percussion, blasting bass and fully formed vocal with playful disposition.
There is an infectious enthusiasm and joie de vivre that leaves the audience enjoying the out-put for all the right reasons as they deftly balance raw edges with radio engagement – a bit like a lemon cheesecake – sweet and sharp – what more does music need?

Originally known as Sugar Bomb and having gone through various line-up changes I hope Manic Pixi find a period of stability to enable them to maximise the release of their highly enjoyable eleven track début LP – Sugar Bomb! which came out on the 16th. - Emerging Indie Bands

"Couples Lock Lips in Manic Pixi "Kiss Me""

“Kiss Me,” the debut music video from Brooklyn punk-pop band Manic Pixi, features couples of every persuasion locking lips—and it’s a beautiful thing.

Directed by Zach Law, the video is high energy and colorful, with guys and girls (and guys and guys, and girls and girls) going at it every which way—from slow pecks to passionate face-swallowing.

KissMe2
It’s reminiscent of Jessie Ware’s dreamy “You & (I Forever),” as singer Anna Hirsch and her two cute cohorts investigate the art of kissing.

And you can hardly argue with the song’s message, right? Check out the video below. - New Now Next

Bio

Manic Pixi is the Alt pop-punk brainchild of lead singer, Kat Hamilton and Drummer, Emmett Ceglia. They have been described as a wild mix of No Doubt, Paramore, Green Day, and Hole. Their music is the juxtaposition of opposing ideas: Sweet and Sour, Angry and Happy, Kat and Emmett. The band was founded on the belief that great bands involve their audience in the performance. The band formed at Berklee College of Music in 2012 and relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 2013. The addition of Marshall Biever, came December 2012, when Kat’s vocal coach recommended the spunky guitarist. As soon as Kat saw Marshall’s delicate brown hair flop side to side, she knew he was the one. The group is currently completed by bassist, Drew Bastian, who learned how to play bass after seeing the band play.

Their anticipated debut album “Sugar Bomb” dropped September 16th 2014 and has since garnered public praise.
