"Mahogany Stylez Interview"

Joining us for an interview to talk about music is the highly talented and simply amazing, Mahogany Stylez.

Hi, how are you?

I’m amazing! Thanks!

So, how did you get into music?

A: I have always been in love with making music. I was penning song as early as 8 Years Old. Later, I started writing poetry, which just strengthened my song writing ability. And when I really think about it, there are a few musicians that made their own buzz in their time in my family. My uncle and my best friends dad were in a rap group together in the 80s. I have a cousin that used to singer back up for Ike and Tina Turner. I’m not sure if its in the genes.

What is the style of your music?

A: I make music every girl or young woman or grown, who’s been through some portion of life can relate to. The fellas feel me too because I REALLY Rap. I definitely make real hip hop, but I’m inspired by a lot of genres.

How did ‘Str8 Stylin the EP’ come about?

Well “Str8 Stylin the EP” is my official debut. I’ve published singles before and been featured on a ton of mixtapes and stuff, and though I been in the game for a while, this is my first published full length project. It was necessary. My fanbase was demanding it. Of course, I had to deliver. It’s really a introductory journey into who Mahogany Stylez, the artist is. I’m giving you a nice range of varied topics in the life and times of Mahogany Stylez.

What are the challenges of making an EP like 'Str8 Stylin the EP’?

A: Well a lot of people don’t know I worked on this project for a while, redoing records, encountering shit independent artists go thru like the technical stuff. I’d have to say keeping your team on course to make sure each component of your project is excellent. That can be the hard part.

What are your goals for the rest of 2018?

I intend to put final touches on defining my brand, touring more, shooting a few more videos, connecting with more fans and of course, Moving these “Str8 Stylin the EP” units. I’m already on to working on the next project too.

""Str8 Stylen the Ep" Album Review"

From a humble beginning as an intern at 106 & Park/Westwood One to launching GetMoneyMas — an all-female operated management company — Rockland County (New York) rapper Mahogany Stylez has been knee deep in the industry for a few years now, and has been building up her wave for a minute now. It’s all culminated in the release of her debut Str8 Stylin, currently streaming everywhere. The EP has been teased for a while now, in fact, “Hearing Me” dropped about a year ago.

Her 10-song debut EP is a mix of things; never entirely subscribing to a specific style, yet delivering an exciting glimpse at what kind of music she’s capable of making. “I Swear,” for example, sees he taking a trappish vibe, while the soulful sample on “Thousandaire” has a much more lighthearted vibe as she drops bars highlighting her ability to handle her shit — without a man.

Some of the project’s strongest moments come when she both takes chances — like on the slightly off-kilter vibe of “Calling,” or the super-Fuego “Choosin (In Reverse),” which has single written all over it. This song, in particular, was a bit more subdued than expected, with the intro sounding as though it was going to have a Ghost Town DJs “My Boo” vibe.

Her cadence is also unique; her vocals have a confidence about them that permeates the project — listen to the swagger on “Girlfriend Know.” She has a sound that, on the right instrumental, can easily slot into any playlist, but again with the right instrumental, could easily make songs that stand out form the pack. There’s a healthy versatility to her as a package; you could easily hear her remix a Three 6 Mafia song or hop on a boom bap track.

Where she goes from here is entirely up to her and her team, but Mahogany Stylez has the goods.

Early.

Bio

Known for her sheer diversity and unadulterated hustle, Mahogany Stylez embodies the concept of “Women in Hip Hop.” As a Rapper/Song Writer/Model/Host, she positions herself in away that will leave no room to NOT be a staple in the Entertainment Industry. Hip Hop raised her and thus she was coined “Hip Hop’s Little Sister,” and later the “Princess of Hip Hop.” She serves up raw honest vocals, wrapped in a flow that is so unique and a voice that is so true to herself, her brand in itself, is an art form. When she is writing music or recording in studio her mind is often already tuned into the creative direction of the track; ‘What’s the video going to look? What’s the choreography that’s going to go along with this record? What will the fans see?’ And she creates music this way. Composing full songs by the age of 7, turning her homegirls into built in “Girl Groups,” including lyrics, choreography, and stage presence, the gift was there early. By the time she was 15 years old, she was rapping in the lunchroom and for local crowds in her hometown of Rockland Co., New York and getting a little attention. By the time she turned 18, rap music and show business were a no brainer. She utilized her college internship at 106 & Park/Westwood One as a platform to learn the music business, Founded GetMoneyMas, an all female operated Management Co., and continued performing on the independent artist circuit in NYC. Later, Mahogany transitioned to the Atlanta market, where the music scene was ever presently transitioning from the North to the South region. She worked the Atlanta market performing at various clubs and private events and showcases around the city, continued building her buzz and writing music. Releasing songs like “Butterscotch,” “Crazy (Freestyle)” “The Truth (Freestyle),” she caught a wave. Acquiring new management and a new team, Mahogany Stylez has built a name and brand for herself that proceeds many of her counterparts in Hip Hop. Having been thru life challenges, business and personal ups and downs and one hell of a journey, Mahogany Stylez never got deterred from her one true love, Hip Hop music. Staying diligent and true to what comes automatically for her, she honed in and is set to release her debut project “St8 Stylin, the EP” in Spring 2018. It includes singles like “Diary,” “I Swear” and “Choosin In Reverse.” She anticipates a follow up project later in the year.Follow Mahogany on Instagram at www.instagram.com/msmahoganystylezFollow Mahogany on Twitter at www.twitter.com/mahoganystylezLike Mahogany on Facebook at www.facebook.com/officialprincessofhiphopSubscribe on YouTube at www.youtube.com/TheMahoganyStylez
