"Mojave Audio’s MA-200 Microphones Prove Indispensable in the Production of “Pop & Tacos”"

Los Angeles, CA… When it comes to capturing drums, percussion, sax, backing vocals and more, a versatile microphone is one of the studio engineer’s most important considerations. For Bassist/Songwriter/Producer/Engineer Jorgen Carlsson, the ability to use the same microphone in a variety of ways streamlines production while helping to contain costs. Such was the case with Carlsson and his partner, Mini Diaz, who collectively wrote, produced and released their album Pop & Tacos.

Carlsson is a Swedish born and raised multi-instrumentalist noted for his work since 2008 as bassist and member of the band Gov’t Mule. In addition to his work with Gov’t Mule, he is also known for his broad musical range through his live/studio bass performances with various artists. Collectively, Carlsson and Diaz are known as the artist “Little Days”. In the Spring of 2019, they released Pop & Tacos, their third record. The project includes several well-known artists, including Warren Haynes, Matt Abts, Steve Ferrone, Mike Campbell and Steve Lukather. Carlsson discussed the project and the use of his two Mojave Audio microphones.

“Pop & Tacos can best be described as a retro pop album,” explained Carlsson. “Musically, there are progressive tendencies reminiscent of the English rock band 10CC, along with ABBA, and Pink Floyd. For this project, we used two Mojave MA-200 mics in several different ways. Most notably, we used them as the primary overhead drum mic as part of a Glyn Johns 3-mic setup, which includes 2 mics, one above the snare and rack tom, 2nd one to the side of the floor tom as well as a kick mic, (you can add a few mics for room and snare colors) . With that style of drum overheads setup, you need a mic with full range response. In this regard, the MA-200s sound very good.”

“In addition to capturing drums and percussion,” Carlsson continued, “I’ve also used my MA-200s for backing vocals, saxophone, and acoustic guitar. When coupled with the Quad Eight mp227 mic preamp, they respond incredibly well and make for a really versatile setup.”

For many studio engineers, questions about optimum mic placement and other considerations routinely arise. While there is certainly no substitute for experimentation, the ability to contact the equipment manufacturer and ask questions is invaluable. In this sense, Carlsson rates Mojave Audio’s customer and technical support services best in class. “I’d give Mojave’s support services an A++++ rating,” says Carlsson. “The company is very responsive to its customers and the staff are all musicians who use this type of gear themselves, so they understand what we’re trying to accomplish. Dusty Wakeman has been tremendously supportive.”

Carlsson reports that he’s been working with his Mojave MA-200 microphones for the better part of 10 years and, in that timeframe, they have proved to be an essential part of his studio work style. He summed up his experience with the microphones by noting, “In the past, I would always reach for a pair of Neumann U 67s. These days, I automatically choose the MA-200s because they are truly great sounding mics.”

"LITTLE DAYS – MR. SUNSHINE: SUN-SOAKED FUNK-RIDDLED POWER POP"

Up and coming artist Little Days will probably never truly know how refreshingly authentic their single “Mr. Sunshine” sounded compared to the painfully archetypal sun-soaked summer hits which flood onto the airwaves each and every year.

My faith in creative expression has been restored by the Southern Californian duo who have incorporated plenty of vintage influence into their Funk-riddled Power Pop complete with reverberantly powerful basslines and Mini Diaz’s insanely talented vocals. There aren’t many vocalists who could give Stevie Nicks a run for her money but listening to the ease in the stretches to the higher notes was an awe-inspiring aural experience.

Mr. Sunshine is just one of the singles found on the duo’s latest album “Pop & Tacos” which any fans of 80s Pop Rock are definitely going to want to tune into.

"At Mountain jam and beyond, Little Days will offer a lot"

If ABBA, Gov't Mule, Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, Black Sabbath or Olivia Newton-John generate any musical interest for you, then you will want to get a lot of Little Days.

The well from which this band draws runs deep. And I can say in no uncertain terms that Little Days delivers the goods, walks the walk and leaves you wanting more.

The band is the brainchild of Swedish native and Gov't Mule bass player Jorgen Carlsson and his wife, Mini Diaz. A play on Diaz's name, Little Days is leaving a very big footprint on the Hudson Valley this weekend.

The band will perform at The Falcon in Marlboro on Thursday, at the Mountain Jam music festival on Friday and at the Colony Woodstock on Sunday. Carlsson on Friday and Saturday will also perform with Gov't Mule at Mountain Jam.

Little Days is in the Hudson Valley to promote its new album, "Pop & Tacos," which combines the guilty pleasure of pop music with the nail-gun precision and propulsion of Carlsson's bass playing. Diaz with her vocals evokes a Lady Gaga, don't-mess-with-me attitude and the songwriting overall leaves nothing to chance.

Carlsson and Diaz this weekend will immerse themselves in the legacy of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair — and its 50th anniversary in 2019 — as they showcase their extraordinary, refined, nuanced and textured collection of new songs

The Colony is in the Town of Woodstock, which inspired the famous 1969 festival. And Mountain Jam is being held this coming weekend at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which sits upon the land that hosted the Woodstock festival in 1969.

As for "Pop & Tacos," the album features Steve Ferrone and Mike Campbell from Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers; Steve Lukather of Toto and Ringo Starr's All Starr Band; and Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes. Live, Little Days features Jackson Browne keyboard player Jeff Young, who will also be the opening act at the Falcon and Colony. - The Poughkeepsie Journal

Bio

Rising out of Southern California’s San Fernando Valley directly from the souls of a life long partnership...Mini Diaz and Jorgen Carlsson met at The Grove School of Music in 1991. Jorgen was enrolled in the bass program while Mini worked there as a supervisor for the students in the recording engineering program. They hit it off so well, they became life partners. Mini writes, sings, plays guitar, ukulele and has occasionally been playing the role of a co-producer and recording engineer. Jorgen produces as well as writes, engineers, and plays various instruments. In the turn of the millennium, two records were conceived when they began to release their independent albums in the hopes of getting a publishing deal for the studio band they affectionately call “Little Days”. In 2008, Jorgen joined Gov’t Mule, but in between a busy touring schedule these last several years, they have found time to rekindle Little Days and continue working on new song ideas.Jorgen and Mini have put together a collection of songs for the studio project called Pop & Tacos coming out spring in 2019. These recordings hold a familiar retro sound-perhaps it’s a missing tape reel found in a vault circa 1978 paying homage to bands like ABBA, Pink Floyd and 10cc, yet undeniably unique while Little Days beckons the listener to simply dive in and enjoy their own ride. The duo have their own hybrid recording studio called Roger’s Boat using both the digital platform as well as a 24-track analog machine in the making of Pop & Tacos. Their new release brings their collective affinity to the music they grew up loving to listen to. In January of 2019/20 Little Days was asked to perform at Gov’t Mule's annual Island Exodus in Jamaica.  They were fortunate enough to guest host their own show on SiriusXM JamOn’s “Roll your own” where they invited The Heartbreaker’s drummer Steve Ferrone and touched on how they ended up getting fellow Heartbreaker guitarist Mike Campbell to record for one of Little Days’ tracks. A few years back, Jorgen started another project called Nerve Bundle with Toto’s guitarist Steve Lukather who also recorded guitar on 2 songs for Pop & Tacos, one of which also has Warren Haynes of Gov’t Mule playing slide guitar.Needless to say, the making of Pop & Tacos has been an extraordinary experience for these two lost kids of the 60’s & 70’s...
