Kevin lavell

Born 1997, Kevin Lavell is the newest artist to emerge from the grimy streets of the West side of Chicago, IL.  As many would think, at the age of 16, that he would exemplify the uptime of Chicagos latest drill and bopping style of music, but that is far from reality.  Kevin Lavell is a true lyricist, embodying styles that artists such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole to name a few, have perfected.

As a young boy, Kevin grew up in an impoverished part of the citys West side, known as K-Town.  He endured man of the struggles that many urban youth do in the city that has been deemed as Chiraq.  Seeing violence, drug trafficking, and day to day negativity to and from school, this began to shape the young adult we see today.  As he became intertwined in his own chronicles of drama, with school fights, in order to protect himself from gang recruitments, one would think that he was destined to be a product of his environment, but instead Kevin used this to fuel what was the beginning of the art form we see him so gracefully delivers today.

It started as spoken word at the age of 12, but because of the heavy influence of rap on our youth worldwide, he began to dibble and dabble in the art form.  At the age of 13, he was challenged by a much older artist, but stood his ground steadfast, with his masterful play on words, catchy punchlines, and witty humor.  After that, his mother Tiffany Steen, began to push him to begin perfecting his craft.  Never being recorded, Kevin entered his first studio at the age of 15, and like a seasoned pro, emerged with his first song "Don't Wannna Be"; in which he describes his desire of just wanting to rap yet all the challenges around him & peer pressure to not do so. Even at his young and tender age Kevin chose to use a sampled beat; a Rock & roll song by Gavin Degraw, "I don't wan to be".

From that point, with the inner drive of being mentioned with the greats, Kevin relentlessly challenged himself to become better and better with each bar, each verse, and each song that he composed as he still does to this day.  Kevin is a lover of all genres of music, giving him the ability to conform to any style, flip it and make it his own, and create great music to any beat.
